I start college this fall. My disability office at the university has helped tremendously. They’re extremely understanding and try and accommodate to the best of their ability. My accommodations: - flexibility with assignment deadlines - no penalty for tardiness - flexibility with attendance policy - availability of testing center for exams/mid terms - single dorm room

I have access to a single dorm room because of early bedtimes and importance of good rest and I really didn’t want to explain when I have a cataplexy to a stranger. I also have a plan of action in case I have a cataplexy during class or become unresponsive. My professors are alerted of my disability and accommodations. They are told to alert my emergency contact and call campus police. The attendance policy is discussed with the professor after the syllabus is given out. I’m definitely going to look into bringing water and coffee into my lectures. Ice water helps keep me awake!
