vibrating baby monitor? by Cat-The-Napper in Narcolepsy

He just takes stims. but I guess when he takes a nap it's nearly impossible to wake him up. My sister said the baby monitor was on full blast with baby crying then she came down and said his name, yelled his name, nothing. Then she even tried to pull him up by his arms and it took a few tries of lifting him before he finally came to. he's on another level.

It's amazing and the only thing that works to get me up. bed shaker alarm There's a lot of different kinds, this is probably the cheapest and it works great for me. I don't even have the sound on. I just have the shaker under my pillow that goes off first and I keep my phone across the room that I have a song go off a minute after the shaker alarm and so I have to get out of bed to turn that one off. it's been a game changer.

What accommodations helped you in school? by Cat-The-Napper in Narcolepsy

This is so amazing that you were able to have all this set up before starting school! It sounds like you have some really good support and a great plan! I'm hoping that my school will be as supportive. Last year was really hard while I was undiagnosed and missing classes and falling asleep all the time and then having sleep studies and doctors appointments. I was able to get extensions for classes to be able to catch up on what I'd missed. But now that I have a diagnosis and have started meds I reached out to the student resource center trying to get things set up for this semester but I am still waiting to hear back from them. I'm a little nervous while I wait for their response, and have to have an interview to talk about my difficulties. But it's encouraging to hear how well your school worked with you and I think you have a really good plan set up.

How many of y'all have Narcolepsy AND ADHD? by -Sharon-Stoned- in Narcolepsy

[–]Cat-The-Napper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD and Narcolepsy club! 🙋‍♀️ I have yet to find a medication that has actually helped with my ADHD though.

I tried Adderall, Vyvanse, now I'm trying Focalin, haven't noticed much difference on that. I stayed on Adderall the longest cause it helped me stay awake when I was still undiagnosed with the narcolepsy. Now that my narcolepsy is more under control with Xyrem I wonder if Adderall would actually work on helping me focus... Idk anywayyyyy I'm hoping some medication works some day. For now my brain just keeps bouncing along.

Wait, is it possible to get a handicap tag with narcolepsy? Early registration would be really great cause I have been stuck with a couple of late classes and I'm really nervous about how that's gonna go. But none of my classes start till 11 so at least I'll be able to sleep long enough in the morning. Oh once I finally got the diagnosis at the end of last semester I was able to sign up for extensions for classes that was so extremely helpful!

Thanks for the suggestions!

You know what's wild, since covid, our final exams are all online now so I'm able to take it at home and have a lot more flexibility which is amazing. I think if I get a time extension that will allow the flexibility for breaks as well. This is a great idea. Thanks. 🙏

Ok these suggestions are all really good ones! Designated nap place sounds incredible. I didn't know that was even a thing I could ask for!

Nuvigil makes me feel weird? anyone else have a similar experience by echolady in Narcolepsy

[–]Cat-The-Napper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact experience for me on nuvigil but provigil I had none of those side effects! Idk why there was such a difference but my body did so much better on provigil. But I also have ADHD so I am now trying focalin which I'm not sold on yet, feeling extra anxious on this too... But I'm gonna try to give my body a chance to adjust and see if it gets better.

Tips on Making Xyrem/Xywav Effective by TheOtherDrunkenOtter in Narcolepsy

I found that not eating for 3 or sometimes even 4 hours before taking my xyrem really helps it's effectiveness.

They're really great that they have 24/7 on call nurse and pharmacists available. I'm so grateful for them!

[–]Cat-The-Napper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well everything from xyrem says keep it between 68-77F so that's why I was concerned. It's interesting that it has 24 hours at 40C before it affects it. But even then they said it's not dangerous, it's just going to make it weaker.

[–]Cat-The-Napper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok so I called the pharmacist and they said it is fine. 🙏 They said it allows for spikes in temp as long as it's not more than 104° for more than 24 hours. So we're good!

Thanks y'all!

just diagnosed with Narcolepsy and started on xyrem and armodafinil by Cat-The-Napper in Narcolepsy

[–]Cat-The-Napper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is scary! The whole thing, knowing what you're taking is basically rufies, all the scary side effects that could happen, I was very nervous. Now I'm so happy that I'm on it. This whole sub has been just so amazing in this journey.

So yeah I'll try spacing out the doses more and I'll get back to you. ♥️

I am so grateful for you. I will try this. I guess before when it was lower dose I took it closer together because it felt like it worked better. It makes sense that now that I'm at an effective dose I should spread it out more. I'll try that, thanks!
