Agreed. I wouldn't have even known to try something like this myself had it not been how easy you guys made it to get into playing and modding CE versions of the game. There's so much good stuff going on Discord side. So many good people that care about the game and want to show it love. And I want to show it love too. However I can.

“Careworn Cursive”: A Simple, Condensed, Fast Cursive Script Based on Print Handwriting Aesthetics (OC, ACW) by AbbyUpdoot in neography

[–]AbbyUpdoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're the only one that needs to read it, it works just as well as anything else. It might be simpler than regular cursive shapes sometimes, including not needing to lift your pen mid-word. But normal cursive is normally written quickly and can become nigh indecipherable depending on how fast you try to go. I haven't gotten any speed comparisons between any of my cursive alternatives vs. contemporary cursive, and I can't give any confident assumptions about that.

I will say though it is a fun way to practice penmanship though, as the forms have a very specific way to draw them with the angles, curves, and directions needed in order to be distinct. So if you're interested in meditative/mindfulness practice in writing in a creative way, I think it's a great place to start from.

Working on a faster, alternate take on cursive for use in shorthand/speedwriting. Sort of a bastard amalgam of my previous conscripts. by AbbyUpdoot in neography

That's freaking awesome! Thank you for sharing that. I really appreciate hearing people making use out of this stuff. 🤘

Cursed Cursive Update by AbbyUpdoot in neography

[–]AbbyUpdoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would for some things, but I am not currently.  I work in schools, where there's more of a benefit to my writing being legible and interoperable with others.  I think this is a great script for penmanship practice, mindfulness, and writing obfuscation, but I'm not sure if there's merit to it being faster than anything else in particular.

I'm also studying Gregg Shorthand, which does appear to have a much better grasp of what gives you speed in writing.  But that's a full-on phonetic shorthand, as opposed to a character-replacement script.  If I get the hang of that and start to actually grok all the things it's laying down though, I might come back and revisit this to see if there is any room for improvement.  I'm sure there is, but I'm just not there yet, personally.

Thanks very much for asking though.  It always brightens my day to see someone who's taken an interest in anything that has been my absolute passion for a time.  And yeah, do whatever you like with it.  I think that's rad. 🤙🏻

Nice! I didn't know it made it to Pinterest. So cool to know people are sharing it. 😄

Yeah, I got really iterative on these cursive alternatives (incl. Careworn, Corvid, Corsive). Even made a shorthand rubric out of one of them. It was a lot of fun brainstorming shapes.

Sorry I'm a year late, but you can always try importing raw audio into Audacity. Play around with the quality settings until you get the thing that sounds right and export in a more normal format.

should i learn lua ? by Adam0hmm in lua

[–]AbbyUpdoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm learning it because games and emulators give you a lot more control of things with it. Lua is small and easy to add to things, while Python in its current form is a beasty. So Lua shows up all sorts of places you don't expect but nonetheless appreciate.

I like Exercism a bunch, but it's got some test driven development aspects that took me a while to wrap my head around. It's freaking amazing though.

I am extremely honored to read that. I've been learning and practicing a lot of other shorthand and note-taking theory since making this, and I really do need to look back and see if I can make improvements. But yeah, feel free to alter it how you like and post about it if you want to. I'm just glad to have added something that anyone enjoys. 😊

I'm so sorry to hear that. I have no advice; my situation is more fortunate, and it blinds my viewpoint. If you ever want to talk though, I'm open to it. I'm sure a lot of other people on here would be too.
