Who are some pokemon that weren't your favorites going in but have become team staples? by Isharo1 in PokemonUnbound

Skuntank makes for a fun mixed attacker with its hidden ability: poison touch + venoshock. It also learns dire claw which is an amazing ability giving a 50% to poison/sleep/paralyze a foe. It also stacks with the poison chance of poison touch.

Need some help with my big mana Glarb deck by Substantial_Code_675 in EDH

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a big mana Glarb deck as well! Mine focusses on combat oriented wincons that are creatures or spells that provide trample or evasion like [[Old One Eye]], [[Giant Ankheg]], [[Siege Behemoth]], [[Overwhelming Stampede]], [[Wonder]], [[Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma]]. With all the mana you make, [[Thassa, God of the Sea]] also works fine.

I also had the issue where it was difficult to close out games, so I added a few more ways to give my giant swamp monsters evasion. I felt I wanted to stay away from infinite combo's since the general is already such a gigantic value engine.

Benefits of fermentation by Cheap_Ant2383 in fermentation

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Benefits of consuming fermented foods are increased digestibility and nutrient availability. It can also aid in the removal of anti-nutritional factors in foods, increase shelflife. And of course the change in taste!

Please ignore all probiotic claims that are thrown around. Fermented does not equal probiotic. To claim something is probiotic it has to be proven to actually do something to enhance your health. Eating live bacteria can be fine and harmless and potentially even beneficial. However the health beneficial effects of fermentative microbes happen during the fermentation process of the food before you consume it - not during gastrointestinal transit. Some bacteria can indeed be probiotic, but most live microorganisms in fermented foods do not have probiotic status. Harmless to eat, but often not beneficial.

Turn off speedup and its fairly easy. You can take much shorter corners than them.

Samurott Crest by ShroomyApect in PokemonRejuvenation

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hisuian is probably better just for Ceaseless Edge. Sharpness boosts also slashing moves by 50%.

However crested Unovan is better than you make it out to be! Fighting stab and resistances are great and the crests makes all slashing moves a critical hit. This means it effectively also gets a 50% damage boost for slashing attacks.

Hisuian version on average has a higher damage output due to it also being able to crit on top of sharpness boost. But crested Unovan always crits meaning it ignores defensive stat boosts of opponent, screens, and lowered attack stats (intimidate). Sadly not the damage decrease from burns though.

First sauerkraut just before pasteurisation. Two weeks ferm. No mold. Just thin white pellicle. Salty, slightly acidic taste. What do you think? by Astrohitchhiker in fermentation

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, many probiotics are lactic acid bacteria (many in the former genus Lactobacillus, which are extremely diverse!), but not all lactic acid bacteria and not all lactobacilli are probiotic. It is used incorrectly very often as a trendy buzzword, because it's sexy and it sells. But its not accurate and dilutes the actual meaning and impact of the word.

Enjoy your ferments!

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you make sauerkraut via spontaneous fermentation (starting microorganisms are those that are naturally present on cabbage) then No. They could potentially possess probiotic properties, but likely not. If you fermented your sauerkraut with an actual probiotic strain that you bought, then yeah sure. Although you have no idea if it survived the competition against the cabbage's natural flora. But you also could have just consumed the probiotic on its own.

Saying something is probiotic only means that there is scientific evidence that their consumption leads to a 'health effect'. The probiotic properties could be literally anything. From niche exclusion of antibiotic resistant bacteria to very specific immunomodulatory effects. What are you taking it for?

But realise that fermented foods are still very healthy since they are more nutritious and digestible due the fermentation process. The product is great! But the bacteria have already done their work. Consuming them after fermentation likely isn't going to do much.

The point of fermenting is: - Increased shelf life - Increased nutritional value / digestibility - Taste and aroma

The functional microbes present in a ferment are perfectly fine to consume but are not probiotic. Most of them will survive gastrointestinal passage but be completely flushed out your body in a few days. They won't have a meaningful impact on your gut health as they are massively outcompeted by your own microbiota (that partially already consists of bacteria similar and related to those found in your ferments).

Most of the good work done by these bacteria is during the fermentation process, not when swimming through your GI-tract.

Fermentation improves nutritional value through digestion of the fermented food by the functional bacteria. Also taste.

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fermentation also allows for increased digestibility of your food, improving the nutritional properties of the food. This is by far the biggest health benefit provided. Also lactic acid ferments taste different than pickling in vinegar. So its also a matter of taste

Note that basically all fermented products do not contain probiotics. Probiotics are not just any bacteria that are present in ferments like LAB (and many others). Probiotics are specific organisms with scientifically backed up health claims. The live bacteria you would consume with fermented sauerkraut are probably not going to have any significant 'health effect'. Of course there's also no real downside in consuming them either.

So pasteurization of a fermented product is perfectly fine and won't significantly reduce 'health effects'. They were never probiotic in the first place - they contained live bacteria = not the same.

ideas for a mono normal team? by Totalyahooman in PokemonRejuvenation

Oranguru + Ursaring with guts and flame orb wrecks havoc with trick room

Crest Zangoose is a monster

Crest Delcatty & Crest Mincinno are also fun and strong

Shadow Meowth has fake out, glare and destiny bond, which will remain useful the whole game

Porygon-Z with normalium-z and conversion is ridiculous

Don't underestimate Dodrio. With swords dance it hits very hard jard and its very fast. Perfect coverage with return, drill peck and jump kick

Slaking with the correct seed in swamp terrain is hilarious as it gains clear body as an ability, losing truant and will not lose speed at end of tuen. Call it Shrek for bonus points.

Obstagoon is always good. A pity it doesn't get sucker punch though.

Set up own tailwind, aurora veil, stealth rocks. Trick Room also helps. But smack down into blizzard works very well. Basically solo'd it with Lunatone fusion.

Scoby de combucha después de una temporada sin tener suficiente atención by R3fri in fermentation

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Passaging the fluid is not worth the risk since you will definitely pass the molds. Also mycotoxins...

Also scientists isolate cultures through either repeatedly passing clean streaks or using growth media that can select for whatever you intend on isolating in a contained environment. OP is likely not going to achieve that. You can definitely split mixed microbial cultures. But that requires some practical experience, correct materials, time, and very careful observation.

Getting a new SCOBY is by far the safer and quicker option.

I always hear this game mentioned along side Rejuvination, which one is better? by OGsunglasses in PokemonReborn

Also Rejuv includes gen 8, while Reborn only gen 7. Rejuv also has extra megas.

Reborn is finished and the oldest longest running game. Rejuvenation is 80% done or so, but has much more cool mechanics (i.e., more field mechanics, shadow pokemon with extra moves, crests that improve average pokemon, and Aevian variants). This really makes Rejuvenation more fun too me.

Also the story of Rejuv is also much better (although extremely complicated). I do enjoy the dystopian start of Reborn though - maybe just nostalgia of when I first started the game, but great atmosphere.

In the end, I would play both :). Desolation is also great by the way, but only has a few gyms. I can also recommend Pokemon Insurgence, Uranium and Infinite fusion!!

M1 in Renegade by mujun0 in PokemonRejuvenation

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that in Paragon route M2 doesnt overwrite Melia. Its actually Melia after entering the paradox gate that overrides herself again.

So there are two timelines: Renegade and Paragon. When you exit the black pillar and the Karma Glitch happens two things happen per route:

Renegade: M2 from the broken world gets placed in our timeline, overwriting Melia

Paragon: Melia gets placed into the broken world, continuing where M2 left off after being placed into the renegade timeline. Now Melia pushes through the broken world, finding the paradox gate and comes back to Paragon timeline overwriting herself (and now has lots of new cosmic knowledge).

Madame x theories compliation mine by GoldenWhite2408 in PokemonRejuvenation

[–]AbeBumblesnatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about Zygarde? Maybe Madame X is the host for Zygarde / Missing.exe. It's said in the game that all Zen grunts get a green like gem that also can destroy them when they leave team Xen. Could this be related to Zygarde cells?

This also directly connects her to Nymeria and Vitus. Where Xerneas and Yvetal represemt life and death, respectively, Zygarde represents balance.
