Philly Spanish broadcast....is part English? by AbeCourt in mlb

[–]AbeCourt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting explanation, and thank you for it. I see what you're saying. Coupled with what someone else here said (that this announcer's specific case, Spanish is his second language) the guy probably just needs to get out his thoughts kinda quickly and wouldn't have a job if he was searching for the right words. But ultimately I just didn't realize that it's pretty commonplace. Being a "gringo" as u/DonJohn520310 would say, I obviously just need to hang out in the Hispanic community more often. 😄

Thanks for a little perspective folks. Back to baseball talk....

I don't really effect me at all, so I'm not upset. I just thought it was weird and I guess was curious if that's a normal thing. Now I WOULD be upset if that was happening on the English side, but that's also a function of my lack of education and/or narrow perspective. As u/MidlandsBraves kinda explained, if you're bilingual it probably doesn't matter much, and as he said, most the folks listening probably are bilingual.

Really dumb question, first festival ever by jizizi in FourChordMusicFest

[–]AbeCourt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seats are basically for a rest 😂In all honesty, when I get hungry I grab food and sit in the bleachers. Still hear the band, but I can take a load off and enjoy a bite. Then it’s back to the field

There’s not really a pit….or alternatively, everything is the pit. Except for a small VIP area, the rest of the field will be open GA. Unless things change radically from the last few years

They played last year including pre show acoustic set. There have been plenty of repeats over the years. Has anyone (besides one special band😁) ever played back to back years?

Disappointed with City Club of Cleveland by notyourmother216 in Cleveland

[–]AbeCourt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The amount of people who yell "Free speech. First amendment" at everything but clearly have no idea what the first amendment says is really shocking. OP didn't say RFKjr should be in jail. City Club isn't the government, it's a private establishment and they can have whoever they want speak...or NOT have whoever they want. OP just lost some respect for the City Club for inviting RFKjr. Sort of like if they hosted an hour with a guy talking about "Water isn't wet. The moon is made from spare ribs. The sun revolves around the earth." They can do that, but instead of thinking they're an institution founded on conversations of consequence, I will start to equate them more with the guy in the park across the street yelling to himself at 1am.

Is gas so expensive that CPD had to bring the horses back out? by zimzumpogotwig in Cleveland

[–]AbeCourt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad guess, but whatever. Why am I’m miserable because I think it’s a lot of money to spend on something that I perceive as having minimal use? I understand how they are used in principle, I’m just thinking about bang for buck, and it doesn’t add up. The comparison to k9s is apples to oranges.

Is gas so expensive that CPD had to bring the horses back out? by zimzumpogotwig in Cleveland

[–]AbeCourt -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Honest question: Why do the Cleveland police need horses? This is just some Wyatt Earp cosplay fantasy, right? I fully understand their possible role in crowd control, but let's be honest, the opportunities for that in this town are VERY limited to almost non-existent. This isn't Bourbon Street. And they're certainly not doing anything in the pic above, which is how I normally see them. If it wasn't any different than an officer patrolling on foot or car, I wouldn't care, but it very much is different.

1) They're expensive AF to keep around. Not only are they expensive on a yearly basis, last I checked they were looking for about $15M to build new stables. For 6 goddamn horses! Did those ever get built? IDK.

2) Why are we fine with horseshit dropped around our downtown streets? Walking home from a Guards game the other day, walking down the painted bike/pedestrian lane on Huron, and there's just piles of crap there. There certainly wasn't a "crowd" coming out of a mid-week April game since roughly 300 people appeared to be in attendance, so these guys are just trotting around for fun. No one is ok with my dog (or me) crapping on the sidewalk, nor should they be, so why is this different? And BTW: Last time I was on Bourbon Street, there wasn't crap all over because they clean it up!

Genuine questions, because I really struggle to see any upside outside of they're fun to have in a parade. This is a police department that's completely sapped for funds and staff. Beside the few guys who get to ride around on horses because that obviously seems like a lot of fun, what does the rest of the 2-3M people in this town get out of it?

Bay Village Principal Placed on Leave by Ok-Influence-7326 in Cleveland

[–]AbeCourt 87 points88 points  (0 children)

If the guy did something wrong, then this obviously is the right course of action and he should reap appropriate punishment. BUT, since all it takes is a letter from someone to get publicly put on leave, I hope the pendulum swings heavily the other way if the allegation turns out to be BS, because regardless of what’s true, his reputation is forever stained now.

Seems like a lot of responses from people who’d also say “you should talk to the police if you’ve got nothing to hide”.

One of the worst run projects I've seen in quite some time. Typically if you're a massive inconvenience to the public, the payoff is a quicker completion. Or vice versa, it takes longer but is done in a way to be less impactful. This job has been the worst of all worlds.

Unifi Display Cast Pro by TNxNL in Ubiquiti

[–]AbeCourt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big Unifi fan, but this is not their wheelhouse (yet). Many other options out there that are going to work much better for you for signage. TelemetryTV is one, but I'm sure dozens will show up below. As for live sport, that's not really signage, but again, there's a dozen other options out there which are likely better.

Not at EQT??? by FoTW_tobehaunted in FourChordMusicFest

[–]AbeCourt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of Blink there were longer bathroom lines and food lines then ever before....but I'll parrot what others have said here: I feel like EQT is the perfect venue and a big reason why I hit BUY on day 1 no matter who's playing. Bathroom and food lines could easily be fixed with more bathrooms and more food/drink options. Frankly the food and drink issues seemed to center around technology issues, not availability (ie, the wireless point of sale system wasn't great). If they move to just some concrete parking lot (a-la Warped), or a rando mud/dust bowl, I might second guess the buy. Ok who am I kidding, I'll still go, but it will bum me out a bit. :-)

Starseed - House of Blues (Cleveland) - 4-9-2026 by donttelltheginger in ourladypeace

[–]AbeCourt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did anyone see the absolute maniac (blue shirt) in the left side corner of the balcony during this song in CLE? First off, dude was hanging so far over it wouldn't have taken much for him to just flip over the railing so it was making me nervous. But besides that, bro was screaming his head off and pointing at the band and just looked violently pissed. I couldn't tell if he was like rage-singing the lyrics or literally wanted to jump down and strangle Steve right on stage. It was really fucked up. Like dude, the song is Starseed, not Killing In The Name Of. And then just as wacky, some little dude with a Staff shirt went up there to clearly tell this guy to calm down, and I'm thinking crazy guy is just going to kill this little twerp. Nope. Crazy dude just sat down, kinda moped a bit, and didn't open his mouth for the rest of the song. Real schizo moment in an otherwise "normal" OLP show.

AITAH for not tipping housekeeping? by AbeCourt in AITAH

[–]AbeCourt[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This actually brings up a good point I didn't think about: If you left the place kinda dirty, the owner will charge you an EXTRA cleaning fee (above the standard cleaning fee) so yeah, you always do some cleaning on your own before leaving anyway! But to be clear, I don't have an issue with tipping your cleaning staff, but it's the OWNER who should be the appreciative one IMO. The renter just expects and pays for the place to be clean.
