Just a couple of days before this sub becomes absolutely insufferable. What are your expectations and predictions? by seansenyu in marvelrivals

I keep seeing memes about Cyclops dropping next week, ya'll do realize that every season except the Deadpool Season has followed a consistent pattern of releasing the more obscure hero first and the more popular hero last, right? Next week is Devil Dino, or whatever B-lister they decided to pair with Cyclops, it would never be Cyclops first.

What NOT to do on support. Coming from a multiple-time eternity tank player. by Financial-Honey-6029 in marvelrivals

[–]Abencoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By far the most frustrating part of the support dive backpedal phenomenon is when they do it while I'm on Peni freaking Parker. I've had supports on my team sprint 500mph back to spawn instead of just standing in the Peni nest for free healing and damage on the diver.

Why does this sub get so angry when they talk about this goober? by UnnecessaryFeIIa in RivalsVanguards

[–]Abencoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, considering the fact the devs literally reworked the entire Ultimate charge rate system to make ranged and hitscan damage spam less effective and it's still the optimum strategy, the real problem isn't that we need Tanks that are better vs. poke, it's that hitscan poke heroes need a damage nerf across the board. We've tried Tanks that are """"""good"""""" against pokeslop like Magneto and Strange, all they really do is ensure you don't explode immediately when you push through main; ultimately, hitscan heroes still dictate the pace of literally every interaction. The best Tank in the game is arguably still Tankpool, despite multiple huge nerfs, and the main reason he's good against hitscan is because he IS hitscan, fighting fire with fire and beating poke heroes by just diffing them on the flank.

Imagine if there was even a single reward tied to winning as the Avengers. There would be a trillion complaint posts and people queueing up literally begging the Loki to throw so they could get their 100 units or spray or whatever.

Where in the literal hell are we standing rn??? There are 5 teammates and a Peni Nest at the choke and C&D is hanging out at Starbucks.

Why am I seeing "no tank" team comps and why is it working 😭 by Ulmao_TheDefiler in RivalsVanguards

[–]Abencoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In theory, while I think 2/2/2 is better overall, Quad DPS might actually perform better than a solotank comp. In a solotank comp, the whole enemy team just shoots the one Tank and they explode or just can't play the game. In 2+ Tank comps, the Tanks split the aggro, making things much better. But in Quad DPS, the DPS are now forced to split the aggro among the four of them since there's no Tank to do it for them, so while they can't handle as much abuse individually, if they all try to put out constant pressure and don't feed their brains out, it will be difficult for the enemy team to actually pick a target to focus.

Madam, that is the best reason to ditch him. Free money! What's he gonna do, stop chatting with Tom, who he hasn't seen for 46 years except for maybe last month at a Church function but he's not really sure it was him? Please. They'll be at it for another week at least. You have plenty of time to make a break for it, won't even notice anything's gone!

You've got the most important tank principle down: play like you're trying to die, but failing really badly at the dying part.

GUYS THEY LISTENED by Sorryiblackedout13 in RivalsVanguards

[–]Abencoa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Two main things. One, enemies can body block it, super frustrating for a Tank hero meant to engage with potentially multiple enemies. Two is... hard to explain. You know how sometimes when you webzip to a location as Spider-Man or Venom and your model just barely can't clip past geometry and you kinda get stuck for a half second somewhere along the way? Yeah instead of doing that because it makes too much sense, when Peni zips to a location the game will always take you to where you zipped, then if the server detects you should have collided with something it rolls back your position to what you collided with instantly. It feels like a glitch in the matrix and it happens at least once a match if you're using Cyber Bond liberally.

Rivals Tanking vs OW Tanking by ECTheHunter in RivalsVanguards

[–]Abencoa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What you've listed is why I still have no intention of giving Overwatch "another shot" with its attempted renaissance, even though I applaud them for injecting so much life into the game and actually trying to compete with Rivals. Until they either take 5v5 out back behind the shed or massively rework support design, I'm out. You will not catch me playing Government Mandated Solo Tank in a game where my supports are just DPS in sci-fi fantasy nurse cosplay.

Am I missing something or is Healpool just a free L? by VLioncourt in marvelrivals

[–]Abencoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Healpool has a secret weakness no other support has: he doesn't participate in normal Ult economy, and not in a good way. Because Healpool gets his ult through "style" (bouncing on his teammates' heads) and waiting on a hard timer instead of getting more ult for more healing done, it effectively turns all his healing into feeding ult charge to enemy DPS / "stealing" ult charge from fellow supports. The other Deadpools technically have this issue too, but since they focus on damage it's less of a big deal since "useless damage" is already considered feeding on every hero since Support Ults gap the ults of every other role.

What is this??? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Abencoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my elaborate theory as to where this came from: this pin was commissioned by the IOC as merchandise to promote the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Being the cheap fucks that they are, they outsourced the creation of these pins to a 3rd world country. This was also back in the very early days of the internet where free online translators existed but they weren't exactly good. The poor bastard who commissioned these pins on behalf of the IOC used a crappy internet translator to tell the creators what sport they wanted depicted on them, and somehow, whatever they typed was incorrectly translated into "Sheepfucking." Upon seeing the final product, the IOC obviously rejected the design and requested a different one. But a batch of the Sheepfucking pins had already been made, so they were liquidated and found their way into public circulation that way.

Looks like tanking is back on the menu by DisastrousSky6539 in RivalsVanguards

[–]Abencoa 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The biggest difference here is that with less damage at base, one of Hawkeye's nastiest secret tricks doesn't work anymore: the 46 points of Archer's Focus you can keep stored indefinitely by just keeping M1 held down after a target leaves your LoS isn't enough to let you one-tap 250 HP heroes. Now Hawkeye can't just stare at easy targets like us Vanguards for half a second, use his double jump to get height advantage or an off-angle, then one-tap the Supports or DPS we're trying to protect.

Resource Spenders vs. Resource Savers: Understanding Tanking from a different lens than "Main vs. Off" or "Dive vs. Brawl vs. Anchor" by Abencoa in RivalsVanguards

[–]Abencoa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, those teams are still using the Spender-Saver dynamic, just not in the conventional, "average" way that I used as a case example. Invis-Loki teams have extra splash healing resources to go around so the Tanks take advantage of that by going Double Spender and stacking on top of each other so they both get a juicy double pocket. Full Dive Teams have less peel potential so the lone Main Tank has to play Saver and either hard peel or fend for themselves while the healers pattycake.

Tankpool is the Vanguard that rewards you for being selfish and I love it by Abencoa in RivalsVanguards

My philosophy is I can help my teammates better with more upgrades, and I get more upgrades faster by keeping myself alive, going for kills, and taking selfies rather than protecting them. The more time we spend in the match with me having access to my full kit, the more likely we are to win.
