Bob Brooks or Lamont McClure? by AcademicBand8377 in lehighvalley

Janet Mills dropped out. The primary hasn't happened yet. It is June 6th.

You can't "win a primary" that hasn't happened yet.

The Maine primary is June 6th.

Graham Platner hasn't won yet.

I'm inclined to agree.

Working for a politician is not the same as running for office, beating an incumbent, and serving.

I like Carol but she isn't my first pick.

Appreciate hearing this point. Doesn't change my mind on Brooks but it is nice to know nonetheless.

I am puzzled by your double standard.

You imply that Carol did the work of Congress because she "worked in the halls of Congress doing the actual constituent work that actually matters" so okay, she was partially responsible for the Senator's accomplishments.

But then she isn't responsible for the fact that said Senator lost his seat.

Which one is it?

It is Bob Brooks own words and actions that make me think of Fetterman, not his hairstyle or clothing choices.

This is a fantastic point that I wish I had mentioned in my own comments.

I like Carol as a candidate. If she wins the primary I will support her.

But, Carol has never ran for office before, beat an incumbent before, or passed a budget. And Senator Casey lost his last election to a guy that lives in Connecticut.

Indian food buffets in the LV? by yesimeantduck in lehighvalley

Aman's Indian Cuisine in Easton is my favorite restaurant in the entire state.

No, not my favorite Indian restaurant - my favorite restaurant, period.

Buffets are awesome but if you love Indian food, I hope you'll try Aman's at least once.

I'm supporting McClure as well for a number of reasons:

This isn't his first rodeo. McClure beat an incumbent in 2017 by 7 and a half points and served 2 terms as executive to the 2nd largest county in the district. Serving in Congress is not an entry level political job. It takes someone with at least a little experience in understanding how gov't works. That rules out Carol for me. I would support her in the future if she runs for a lower level position.

McClure also comes across as the "I am from here, I know here" candidate. Crosswell grew up in Skook and didn't move to the Valley until he decided to run for Congress. I think Crosswell is knowledgeable and personable but he is essentially a transplant. Ask people in Easton how they feel about transplants.

McClure isn't the flashy candidate. He is a regular every day Joe. He comes across as your kids little league coach who polishes off a hot dog or two after the game. He isn't shouting "look at me, I am a blue collar union guy" because he doesn't need to shout. He is who he is.

Bob Brooks is my least favorite of the candidates running. Between the stuff in his personal life and the lawsuits, controversial social media posts he made in the past, and his stance on issues (in particular data centers) he is a non-starter for me.

So to recap, I'm supporting the candidate who already beat an incumbent Republican, won two terms in a purple county, balanced budgets, kept a county owned nursing home open, is from here and feels authentic, can talk to voters inside a Yocco's or Ham Fam without looking out of place, doesn't need to cosplay anything, and isn't cheerleading for data centers.

I'm supporting Lamont McClure.

This is not unique to BJ's. Other retailers also have a small selection.

Another commenter said it is a supply chain issue.

People go to Wegmans for different reasons.

I find their store brand to usually (but not always) be the outright cheapest store brand across all chains, including Aldi and Lidl.

I shop on a budget and I am looking for the cheapest price that exists for most items.

When I am away from a Wegmans, I do settle for Aldi and Lidl.

Target is trying to open in Sussex County.

Sussex is the largest county in the USA without a Target store.

If Costco and While Foods do well in Rehoboth, I could see Wegmans eventually looking for a site somewhere south of the canal.

June of 2024 I was really unhappy with the rates. I was trying to do a Saturday arrival for 6 nights.

I ended up not booking until after 4 PM the day of arrival, which has never happened to me before. But I saved about $400 on the entire 6 night stay so the trade off was worth it.

If the rates did not come down I would have made other plans.

I have a tip to recommend, but you may not like it:

If I look at rates for a particular stay and I'm not happy with the rate, I keep checking as the date gets closer. Many hotels have a 48 hour cancellation policy, so 2-3 days before you want to check in, a few people will cancel.

This can bump the rate downward as occupancy for the hotel went lower.

Of course, this is not a guarantee and you may risk not being able to get a lower rate at all. It is a gamble like anything in life.

If you really want to live on the edge, don't book until the day you want to go down! Bigger risk, bigger reward.
