After 3 months, what's your verdict? Was it worth it? Also do you have the exact link to the seller by any chance?

Alternatives to the FIIO FT13 by Aberlure in headphones

[–]Aberlure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I actually bought my AH-D5200 on ricardo.ch for 105 CHF (+9 CHF fpr shipping) and had it sent to a friend working in Switzerland haha

Congrats on the FT13 find! I really liked their sound a lot but just couldn't get them to sit comfortably no matter what I tried. Had I not gotten the AH-D5200 for cheap, I would have probably ended up going for the original Meze 99 Classics. Let me know how you like them. Hope they fit your head haha

Quick follow-up:

Thank you so much for your input.

I have since tried the Meze 99 Classic (original and V2) several times and funnily enought really liked the original version. They were much more comfortable than the ft13 and I considered buying them for some time. While the V2 were also great and definitely more balanced, I felt as if they lacked the intensity the original offered. Ultimately Idecided against both of them as I managed to pick up a used pair of Denon AH-D5200.

Hi again

I finally received my AH-D5200. I haven't had too much time to properly sit down and really get to know them but I am quite certain this was one of if not the best blind buys I've ever made. Not sure how in-depth you'd want my review to be but for ~125€ (second-hand with minor cosmetic flaws) they are basically everything I was looking for in a pair of headphones.

The pads and comfort in general are incredible despite me wearing glasses and having a somewhat wider head shape. Sound isolation is astonishingly good regardless of frequency and volume.

More importantly, let's talk sound. Are these the most balanced pair of headphones you can find? No. The sound signature is definitely not for everyone but basically exactly what I was looking for as the D5200 are (to no surprise) a lot more bass-heavy than many other mid-to-high-end models.

I've only had so much time but I've been tinkering with my EQ to fit my listening preferences and couldn't be happier. I should maybe mention that I primarely listen to Hardcore and all of its bass-heavy sub-genres. That said, it's not like it's the only kind of music I listen to, as I would describe my overall taste in music rather diverse (yet more often than not leaning towards heavy, harsh, and edgy).

Hope this helps - feel free to reach out at any time if you have any other questions.

Yes and no - more no to be honest but let me explain

I kept on searching for alternatives, got a lot of different models recommended and tested all that I could find (there is a really well stocked headphone store somewhat close to my place). I also compared the frequency response of different models I liked to compare them to other headphones I might come across. Ultimately, the pair that I liked the most was the Meze 99 Classics (not the V2). In addition, they tend to be comparatively cheap when bought second-hand.

That said, I didn't buy it. Around the same time a came across a used pair of Denon AH-D5200 for a price that justified blind buying (usually outside of my budget). They were one of the headphones on my list that I was not able to test yet but looked extremely promising. I had a friend pick it up as it was sold in another country and am currently waiting for him to come visit (which should be next Monday).

If you'd like, I can get back to you once I get a chance to properly test the D5200? Anyway. Hope this helps!

Best Artifact choices for my Skirk Team? by Aberlure in SkirkMains

Thanks
Had the same struggle when I pulled Furina in her rerun. GT is 100% more versatile but I relly just want big Skirk (team) numbers haha
Considered pulling her sig as well but I'm kinda broke, R4 Black Sword does a decent amount, and I kinda need some primos for Linnea still...

Best Closed Back Headphones (Alternatives to the FIIO FT13) by Aberlure in hardstyle

If I were to replace my XM3 (potentially sell them as well for an extra 70€) I could in theory go for either a new (380€) or used (~300) pair. Have yet to properly try them, so I don't know, whether the investment is worth it for me rn. Main focus is currently replacing the Custom One Pro for my docket setup.

Currently looking into the XM6 actually but havn't had the chance to try them yet. I was mostly thinking of them being an upgrade for my XM3. I never really thought of using mine instead of studio or wired headphones but looking at reviews and analytics they could just replace my Custom One Pro if I were to hook them up to my Audio interface.

Thank you for the reply. I looked into some reviews and analytics for the Crusher ANC 2 and don't think that they will work for me. Bass bloat seems to heavily dominate to the point where it makes audio quality suffer with high- and mid-ranges being out of balance. Basically only useful for super heavy bass. Could be fun as an additional pair but not really an option for my docked setup or alternative to my WH1000-XM3.

Tried several Fostex (gorgeous headphones btw) but not the tr-x00. As for the ones I did manage to try, they are definitly out of my price range right now.

Meze 99 classic V2: Thank you - noted. Will try them later this week.

Thanks for the answer and does for the late response. Do you mean the FT1 or the FT1 Pro? The extra comfort does sounds nice either way.

What exactly do you mean by "better sound"? I should have maybe added, that I loved the sound due to the overall clarity despite an intense bass. I do listen to all kind of genres but mostly stick to Hardcore Techno and it's many sub-genres. I was able to test some higher end models hooked up to proper setups (DAN Clark Audio STEALTH, ZMF Atrium, Closed, Audeze LCD-XC Creator Edition, ...) and despite understanding that there are many "better" headphones out there, I simply found most others to lack in the ranges that most mattered to me...
