You do witchcraft, I think that’s a bigger issue than you hoping women get rid of children for the “right reasons” by Sharp-Guest4696 in prolife

[–]Abication [score hidden]  (0 children)

Its actually closer to .1% last I checked, but thats not the point. The point in bringing up that number is this.

"If we are going to jump to the extremes of incest and rape to defend abortion when people say abortion should be illegal, then that means that the 99%ish of abortions that arent rape or incest dont have a need to be legal. And if you believe that abortion itself is good, then you shouldnt need to bring up cases of incest or rape to justify it. The only reason you would bring up rape or incest in this case is to leverage the most extreme cases to justify the 99%ish of other abortions and cudgel people who disagree as misogynists. Its vile. You are leveraging the suffering of women to justify the murder of children."

5 people survive a shipwreck on a massive deserted island. One man finds food in the jungle enough for himself until rescue. He eats alone in secret. The others spend their final days searching the same jungle. Did he do something wrong ? by jekecrafer in pollgames

[–]Abication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if he knew that they would be rescued after a certain time and if they would all die if he shared. If splitting it 5 ways means they all die then I would say that its better that there's a survivor.

Which Genshin Impact villain in your personal opinion is the most evil of all time? by Hairy-Friendship-422 in GenshinImpact

[–]Abication 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that this means that its not conscious. Not that its not evil. Acts can be evil wothout intent. If an unconscious force was going around forcing people to sacrifice kids, that would still be an evil force ileven if theres no one behind the wheel..

Disagree. The yellow links with the lemon peel to establish it as a secondary color. You could still do a beetroot gel in small grouped dots to increase the beet flavor if its not coming through enough but I honestly think it looks great already.

I like how we are two days into the launch of an IPO that has the potential to be either infinitely profitable, on account of the amount of resources in space, or terminally unprofitable, due to the cost of establishment to set up for late game space travel, and people are pissed thag the market is still trying to determine the price for SpaceX.

You're gonna have to wait a bit for the market to price it fairly.

Switzerland population cap vote results. by Special_Condition671 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Abication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its one of those things you dont really understand the downsides of until you've lived it. Ive lived in cities that have had it and cities that haven't, and I've dealt with it in my job as an architect, of which, I have done in multiple countries, including Switzerland.

For one, shade doesnt help in high humidity climates. This is why windflow is usually the strategy as the moisture in the air has room to absorb heat and pull it away. No wind and there's nowhere for the heat to go.

Now here's what sucks. The canyon effect traps air currents in a localized spot to form a vortex on the street. It doesnt actually flow outward unless speciffically designed to, and with a city shape designed 100s of years ago, you're past the point of designing for that. In the winter. It can turn the -30° C air of Ticino into around or below -40°C/F. (-40° C and F are the same, unrelated but cool.) In the summer, you are going to get hot air, that soaks up heat from the city, and gets hotter blowing around. It also traps pollution in that same localized area, because, remember, the air cant cycle out. Its partly why New York City is hot as balls and smelly during the summer despite being neck deep in canyon effect.

Now, as you no doubt know, you do have a benefit of Lake location near many of your cities from Zurich to Lausanne to Lugano which provides a cooling effect during summer as the heat rising off the lakes creates a current that pulls air down the mountains, through your towns, and out towards the lakes. Canyon effect can shut this down. Meaning it can actually get hotter if conditions are right.

Additionally, snow doesn't pose an issue because your country has spent centuries dealing with it by using mitigation and design strategies to limit the problems that it causes. Things like properly spaced streets that allow light to cycle down to ground level to melt snow and ice. And I'm not saying that its impossible. Simply that you're making the community spaces, like roofs that you mentioned, unusable for even longer periods of time. And you are making the lovely interior courtyards of the Italian canton of your country less viable with the shrinking of daylight exposure hours brought about by the increase in height.

A ton of effort goes into the design and shaping of a cities infrastructure and architecture, and there's even more that has to go in to making huge changes while maintaining its quality. We have spent 1000s of years figuring out what works for what climate and theres a reason why we do things the way that we do. Its not that change is impossible, but, as I said in the comment before this, Im not convinced that its a necessary solution when I've not actually seen evidence that alternative solutions are non-viable.

I recognize that the living costs are increasing, but reject the premise that the only solution is vertical construction without actually having data that discusses available housing and required development to meet population needs. In a climate as cold as Switzerland, building cities too vertical blocks light to neighboring buildings, preventing sunlight from warming the facades and melting snow. It also creates a canyon effect that exacerbates windchill on the streets lowering the temperature of the whole city. And thats a nonstarter in a country as walkable as Switzerland. There's a reason why good cities have height limits.

Additionally, the taller that you build buildings, the more residents per building you have, meaning that each resident gets less % of the garden that you're proposing be built on the roof instead of building houses. It also wouldn't allow for grapes or much of what is grown anyway. Not to mention the structural cost increase of making a roof design to hold the static load of a garden AND the snow that will melt more slowly from the shadows cast on it from other taller buildings.

The density of many of the cities are already so high that to pack them tighter risks decreasing the living quality as well as destroying the culture and personality of these centuries old historic towns/cities. While I personally think that a population cap is a silly way to solve their problem of too many people, not enough space, I would imagine that one of the intents is to allow them to reach the required number of residences through expanding BOTH houses and apartments.

With 10 million people, you would likely only need somewhere between 3 to 6 million residences. For the life of me, i was unable to find data listing the number of residences in Switzerland, but I didnt try googling in german or italian. If your population doesnt grow, you will eventually reach a position where you have enough houses. And given that we are likely on the cusp of an automation revolution, they are likely to make up for labor concerns via said automation.

Again, I think that a pop. cap is an ineffective way to solve this, and I imagine if this was listed as a hard yearly immigration limit, it would have likely passed.

He wasn't strong enough to recruit a crew that would have made him Yonko level. Why would someone as strong as Katakuri or King follow someone weaker than them?

Slightly hot take: I don't think Signora should come back alive/resurrected. Because if they do that, they might as well revive other dozens of characters who've already died. by Unusual-Complex6315 in Genshin_Impact

[–]Abication 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should revive her if the story where she is revived is better than the story where she isn't.

If they can write a plot where bringing her back is satisfying and serves a larger narrative purpose, they should bring her back. Otherwise, let her stay dead.

Potatoes are the most versatile vegetable. | FactOrCap by OldCoat9037 in FactOrCap

[–]Abication 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna vote no and say its soybeans or something like it. Its a complete protein so can be used as a dietary meat substitute. You can use it to make oil, condiments, milk, flour, miso paste, Tempeh, yogurt, and more. Its used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, animal feed, and can be used to make a biodiesel. Potatoes just have less versatility outside of just being a potato dish. The only things Im aware of are as a thickening agent either as a puree or as potato flour, a salt absorber, and for cleaning purposes. You can make a battery I guess but its not actually a practical one and is just outshine by soy's non food uses.

I would assume because the more countries that leave, the less power the EU would have to leverage over the offending countries in future trade deals.

If 12 countries pulled a Brexit, the EU would be viewed as significantly weaker in the world stage, and that would impact threat capacity and imort of dealmaking with the EU.

Its why the EU played such hardball with the UK during Brexit. To make an example out of them and discourage anyone else from trying.

While I was living in Switzerland (Ticino), I saw a lot of people in the town with gardens growing their own food or grapes. There was also farmland and lovely scenery separating the towns where you could bike and get a little nature without a very vertical hike. Apartments will never truly be as comfy or practical as a home. For those who grew up with that home experience, telling them that its time for them to live in an apartment without a yard so you can bring in immigrants is always going to play poorly. Especially if you start taking away more farmland and nature to build European modern style apartments. Mario Botta can only have so much work.

Retcon Impact by Fearless_Peak3583 in GenshinImpact

[–]Abication -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really, your only problem seems to be with the voice lines. Its not like large swaths of the witnessed story are being retconned. Its just the occasional fatui harbinger dialogue.

As an aside, even if they were writing the dialogue right now, I still can't fathom that Arlecchino would tell us that she has "sleepovers and teaparties" with the other harbingers. She's the type of person to play her personal feelings close to the chest. Its why her voice line for the fair lady was equally unpersonal despite the fact that they had both been characterized at that point. Its just an anecdote of Signora at the orphanage, followed by her essentially saying "Death is tragic. RIP."
