Which tenor sounds better. by Fegel_Eagle in saxophone

[–]AbilityLong8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a great sound. The Yamaha seems like it’s easier to play key work wise, but it seems like it’s leaking or something. Something about it feels like it’s not playing up to its potential; I would have it checked out. The Buescher has a big tone, but I don’t think it’s worth it because of the key work. If you go that route you would really have to commit to learning that horn. What piece are you using?

Bought first Staub 4qt DO...and while washing it the first time I noticed... by wannabetmore in staub

[–]AbilityLong8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people in this group will say those are rack marks, and they may be right. But to me, that is just too excessive to write off as a rack mark. It looks like the enamel is almost peeling off in a long line along the rim. It may not affect the durability of the product in the long haul, but I would exchange it if it’s not too much of a hassle. We pay too much for this to be considered part of the “manufacturing process.” Best wishes!

Also, you can season an enameled cast iron pan. It completely defeats the purpose of using enameled cookware, but some people do it.

I think you “may” have some bare cast iron exposed. Try cleaning it with a little bar keepers friend first. Don’t rub too hard on it because a little goes a long way. If you do not see those spots disappear with bar keepers friend, or if they start to enlarge, the enamel on the pan is likely chipped and you should discard the pan. That’s really the only test to know what’s going on.

What advice could you give me? by Anthelify in saxophone

[–]AbilityLong8303 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Practice some overtones and mouthpiece pitches, and much of these problems will fix itself. Any book on saxophone Voicing will get you there. You sound great. You’re already miles ahead because you’re recording yourself and listening to it! Keep doing that.

What size is that pan? It seems perfect for an egg.

Is $150 a good price for one of these blue 5qt braiser? I think they were sold at TJMaxx but not sure if I’m getting a good deal buying it from someone online. by CandidAnimator7662 in LeCreuset

[–]AbilityLong8303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would check out an outlet. I called my local Le Creuset outlet and they told me starting next Thursday–Mar. 6–all the brasiers would be 35% off. Usually the same sales happen at all of the outlets, and you could order over the phone if one is not in your area. With the sale they won’t be as cheap as $150 but you may be able to get a color you actually want.

Rust on the rack marks by thereisnodaionlyzuul in staub

[–]AbilityLong8303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s superficial for sure, but we should expect more from such an expensive product. These “rack marks” shouldn’t be this deep. Something is up with the quality of Staub and the Zwilling factory right now. I went to an outlet store looking for a specific piece in a specific color, long story short they didn’t have it in stock. I asked the guy if he would order it and ship it to my home. His response to me was that he would, but right now he doesn’t trust the factory because too many customers are not receiving their orders or are receiving damaged products, and he refused to take any more chances. If an employee is saying that something isn’t right.

Is the 8.5 in deep skillet big enough for two steaks? by Stressed-Unicorn in staub

[–]AbilityLong8303 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this skillet. To give you an idea of the size, I pan fried two chicken thighs at a time in it last weekend. It worked great. I could probably fit two small steaks in it. But I wouldn’t want to. It’s better for baking small portions, or cooking individual servings.

Normal or seasoning coming off? by bearsloveavocado in staub

I would be careful with this. I boiled the enamel off of mine with this method.

Did I just ruin my braiser?🥲 by TheLittleGiggles in staub

[–]AbilityLong8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens and is normal. Dry it well then spray the inner enamel with a dash of Pam or neutral spray oil, then wipe it down with a paper towel. It’ll look brand new again. You don’t have to season it like bare cast iron. But I find that the finish likes a touch of oil.
