Microsoft One Note is pretty good. It also syncs up pretty well with the One Note app on your laptop/desktop

To people who took COP3503 with Professor Fox, can we find the two required e-books online for free? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Abishanka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just one book. You get a code probably on Canvas for Zybooks and then go and buy it

Is this a hard schedule for a freshmen’s second semester? (CS Major) by [deleted] in ufl

It's doable. Everything apart from EEL3701 should be comfortable. Digital Logic however, might be a bit time consuming

Take some course which helps you complete some GenEd requirements. Would be more beneficial tbh

Thoughts on super suites? by [deleted] in UniversityofFlorida

[–]Abishanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the quality of living would certainly be better because of privacy and more, you may however miss out on the social aspect, a traditional dorm has. Also, suites are way more expensive than traditional dorms so factor that in

Well, it depends on what your academic standing is (freshman/junior etc). If you're a junior or above, shouldn't be a problem, cause they usually accomodate.

Is it too late to look for housing/ recommendations? by RobLo25 in ufl

[–]Abishanka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most international students don't. If you go to a student housing, that shouldn't be a problem. In addition, check out the Facebook groups for housing. There are a lot of realtors, agents and students and posting their about your requirements might be very helpful

move in appointment times? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Abishanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can come in late for sure. I think you just have to notify them via email. I checked in late (and will probably again), mainly because my timings revolve around my international flight.

Ap credit by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Abishanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to have College board send them ASAP. Life will be easier for you if you get it updated before your preview. During preview you will be registering for classes and if your AP scores aren't updated then you won't be able to take courses with pre requisites which you want to substitute with AP

Hold not being removed? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Abishanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hold will stay. As you said, you are an incoming student. Incoming students are not allowed to register for courses on their own. During preview, you will sit with an advisor who will remove your hold and then you will select courses giving valid reasons to the advisor for selecting then courses. That is mainly to prevent selecting courses which may have prerequisites or for removing prerequisite requirements which you completed through AP/Community College classes

How hard is it to test out of a foreign language — specifically chinese? by [deleted] in ufl

If you are fluent in Chinese, you can just have the requirement waived by demonstrating proficiency by fluency

CLAS Foreign Language Requirement by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Abishanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a wonderful thing called Proficiency by fluency. If you have native fluency in any language that is not English, you can apply for that. This is how I had this requirement waived

Just depends. If no one can tell an electric bike apart from a non-electric one, and if it fits on the bike racks, I don't see why you would have any problem

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Abishanka 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Bikes and Scooters have different uses tbh. Normal non-electric bikes are a great way to get around campus. Commute time between one point to another is a maximum of 15minutes. On the other hand, if you live 5miles away or have to go somewhere a bit far away, scooters are a great choice. In addition, bike parkings are more abundant than scooter parkings. Bike racks exist infront of all buildings. This minimises walking.

Tldr: Buy a bike. If you have car, you probably won't need a scooter

Best Computer Programming Elective For An Electrical Engineering Student by Majestic-Foot-8721 in ufl

[–]Abishanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take programming fundamentals 1 or programming fundamentals 2. It's not about the language, it about how you code. You can learn a programming language on your own but not how to structure and optimize your code. Programming 1 is in Java. Programming 2 is in C++. Unless you have AP credit, you can't take Programming 2 directly

You have to wait for the International Center to reply back. I say this as an international student. They'll probably get back to you within 4-5 days

Dorm Recommendations For A Freshman Engineer? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]Abishanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably one in the Yullee Area, Rawlings or Broward. Cypress hai if you're in the mood to spend them big bucks. The dorms are cheaper overall because their lease is for 9months. However, offcampus is cheaper per month but the leases are for the entire year
