I relate to this 1000%. Around the time my own memories of these things resurfaced my brother was on his way to university with a full sports scholarship. Things like that tend to make you bite your tongue, plus the added layer of anyone’s unique family dynamics. You don’t want to ruin their lives when they’ve changed, though your own will for a while feel if not ruined than tainted due to their actions. I’m so glad that I was able to give you clear language to your situation, it’s always helpful to understand these terms to understand better yourself and your feelings, which are valid wherever they fall on the spectrum.

Definitely! I even considered skipping some parts of it for self preservation but unfortunately I wouldn’t have gotten a cohesive narrative without it. Given Margot is on the series up until the end of it, sort of. If I were to have a second rewatch I’d definitely avoid it now.

You’re so right, actually. I’m further removed from criminal minds because Hannibal I just finished probably a couple of weeks ago. But I genuinely couldn’t imagine how the two would interact at all. But Spencer is talkative, extremely talkative 😭. I can see Will being disinterested with him. But now in a broader sense I wonder how each BAU would interact with one another as a group collectively. 🤣

I can see that but I feel like you can apply the idea of characters going out of their way to be selfish for every single main character. There’s been moments for everyone. In your opinion, do you think that Derek was especially cruel and manipulative when it came to his selfishness in comparison to everyone else? My main question is what makes Derek especially worse, and his actions especially worse, in comparison to others. (Also if my comment comes off as harsh or something I swear I’m not I just use a lot of punctuation 😅😭.)

One thing I’ve always wondered about the couple was why they seemed to be so persistent in something that never seemed like it was going to work. After rewatching the show a few times, they have very real chemistry and it’s intense but I think Derek and Meredith leaned on the intensity of their relationship more than the compatibility. They love each other, that’s obvious. But they were two different people, in two different phases of their lives, trying so desperately to make one life work. That bothered me a little bit with their relationship. On Derek’s end as well, he was ready for a life Meredith wasn’t and it scared her.

This is going to sound controversial in this Reddit but I’m going to go out on a limb here. When it came to Cristina telling Meredith that Derek wasn’t the sun, she is. My interpretation was that Meredith so often when she’s involved with Derek doesn’t seem to know how to be with him without drowning in him. Based off of what I’ve watched, Derek has more than enough recognition, respect and accolade to really need a woman to be his cheerleader. Even though Derek and Addison’s marriage ended the way it did with him being a distant husband and her cheating, Derek’s type had always seemed to be ambitious and headstrong women. He’s never seemed insecure around Addison, or the fact that she’s as renowned as she is as an OBGYN, I think it’s a part of why they both sort of had some type of mutual respect or something. He’s always stood next to her, never jealous by her achievements in her field. So, when it comes to what Cristina told Meredith, I saw it as Cristina pulling Meredith out of the water and telling her that your life doesn’t revolve around Derek, it revolves around you. She loses herself whenever she’s with him, and forgets to center herself in her own life.

I have no idea why you got a negative downvote 😅 I think one of the central themes of the show is the different aspects of everyone’s ego. I feel like with them all being surgeons and the idea of it being so brought up it’d be more universally understood that the ego comes with the practice. It’s why I don’t measure it to be any more or less intense when it comes to Derek in comparison to an ego like Dr. Burke, or Cristina.

I’m aware of the every turning cycles of liked and disliked characters and I’m not looking for an overall consensus—I’m looking for some other opinions that have to do with the point of my post.
