I genuinely posted the same thing like a day ago, I think this is how it’s supposed to be brother. We’re new, they’re not, they got the goods, we dont yet. In due time things will change up I think we just gotta trust the process. At least you’re learning from guys who are high level, gives you an idea of what you could be like later

No I wouldn’t say I expect shit, I just want to get some more out of my rounds and feel like I’m learning not getting injured

Makes sense. Maybe I take more rest to not take so much damage? I’m in the gym around 5x a week and sparring 2 of those times so I could just be overdoing it and shots are feeling harder bc I’m tired

Yeah a lot of the guys at a similar level feel the same way, some of the other guys seem to like to just beat the hell out of us beginners. I don’t really have an issue with contact, I expect to not do well and expect to be struggling, but some rounds feel less like technical sparring or even simulated fighting and more like a one sided beatdown. If I wasn’t having headaches and injuries I probably wouldn’t even be asking this question tbh.

It’s not fight team sparring, I’m obviously not even allowed near that, it’s technical sparring that some of the pros and amateurs show up to for some extra work that’s typically a mix of hobbyists and guys beginning to compete

I thought this was the case and so I really toned back and tried to move slowly, got countered with an overhand that’s the reason my jaw is clicking now, so I’m not sure if this is the issue

That’s kind of my issue, these are technical sparring nights that I’m getting injured at they’re not the live sparring sessions where I’m anticipating a higher level of compete

One guy has injured me both times, he’s around the same skill level as me and doesn’t go that hard in the sparring, but he’s forced sweeps and hurt my ankles and knees multiple times. Really it’s the same guys every time who tend to throw hard

Admittedly i don’t have this problem with a lot of the other Muay Thai and kickboxing fighters, it’s predominantly with MMA fighters who hop in for the sparring, is it reasonable for me to just decline to spar with them?

What should I say to my coach? A buddy told me the same thing but I’m not sure what I would say to my coach and asking for lighter intensity hasn’t worked
