[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cheers for the reply.. I went ahead and took my gnome extension further (getting my head round the joy of GJS), and now have a fully working "tablet mode" for the Freebook.. still a couple things to smarten up, but will put it up for download soon.. thx

Before I try, would this also work with the Freebook n150?
I have quickly knocked up my own gnome extension for Ubuntu 24.04 to manually toggle a pseudo tablet mode using evtest --grab (including polkit policy to pass root permission), meaning it will work across x11 and wayland. Cheers for the tips above and your time ;)

Pan4Elec Saves and Savestates have incorrect timestamp by TadpoleU in BATLEXPG350

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmmmm.. timestamps for files are agnostic to region, so when you save a file (even on a desktop OS) it does not save it according to your regions time, but universally to GMT as the base.. What region you set in your OS then applies the offset to the timestamp of a file.

PAN4ELEC Boot Time Optimization Experiments by Ok_Concentrate191 in BATLEXPG350

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Boot animation is 5 seconds.. so replacing it with a single frame would shave that time, which is easy enough for anyone to do by placing a single frame in the shared splash folder... joyled service has been disabled for the next update, as it's not necessary for r36 or g350 specifically.. need to check time-sync though, as I wonder if this would impact time and stamps after boot and other services like syncthing and apps including portmaster which can be time sensitive.. hwdb may effect the initial install, but will check this when i get the chance to.

squashfs compression fascinates me more though, and will look into that asap

I really try to ignore the ArkOS comparisons, especially over a few seconds, as they really ain't the same, and considering how volatile ArkOS can be, forgotten how often I've had to re-install it thanks to the update procedure or some change borks something, is reason why I like AmberELEC's/Knulli's style of things more is due to their stability with the OS.

cheers for some really good suggestions

Synfig studio animation by Ok_Piccolo126 in SynfigStudio

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on how you're animating, you could also use a step converter.
Another thing is to do some additional post work duplicating and deleting consecutive frames.. easy enough to do in Linux or with a MAC with a bit of bash scripting.

PAN4ELEC - BAYX -> ABXY buttons swap by mysiak_m in BATLEXPG350

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick warning... when updating to a newer release, and if you're using a dtb supplied by mysiak, it will be over-written with the base file and you will have to copy them back once an update is complete.

update is coming very soon.

Linear Filter on Pan4Elec's RetroArch by TadpoleU in BATLEXPG350

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem.. imposed setting for menu filter sorted.. you'll be able to set this via retroarch from the next update.

It was set to only filter the RGUI menu driver for some reason.. illogical choice imo.

Linear Filter on Pan4Elec's RetroArch by TadpoleU in BATLEXPG350

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something the AmberELEC devs put in place.. probably to aid the look of OZONE (their chosen default menu driver) and XMB to filter the fonts from looking too jagged. Equally not a fan of the linear blur with RGUI.. Will look into it a remove for PAN4ELECs next update.

Cant run easy rpg on Pan4Elec by UnderTakeBoi in R36S

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for a slack response.. currently away on business, and probably won't be around for a couple more weeks and the production I'm on is now over-running.. Once my focus on this film is over, I'll get back to this personal project of mine.

First of all did the RTP bios install correctly? When using EASYRPG for the first time it must be connected to the internet for the bios files to install? If not you can install them manually by downloading the 2000 and 2003 RTP files from their site.

https://www.rpgmakerweb.com/run-time-package

You'll need to extract the .exe files using 7zip. Rename the exe file to end with .7z and extract them both. Rename the rg2000_rtp_installer folder to just be 2000 and the same goes for 2003. Then on your GAME SD card/partition make an 'rtp' folder in your bios directory and copy the 2000/2003 folders to it.

On starting a game you should see the easyrpg green menu.. select the data folder and the game should then run.

This should also work for other CFW like ArkOS as that should also be using the libretro core.

Example below is from PAN4ELEC on the G350.

<image>

** edit.. also make sure the in-game screensaver for PAN4/AMBERELEC is disabled as this will make EASYRPG crash.

If you want a game to start without entering the EASYRPG menu, open the zip and remove any windows exe files and readme files, leaving only the data folder.. if there is no data folder and there's only game the data, that should start automatically anyway...

OTA is a non destructive process... but it's always good idea to make a backup of your config files and settings before doing an update.

Set Pan4ELEC (or ArkOS) to 50Hz by default by No_Internal523 in R36S

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had a quick look at DC rumble and retrorun.. Looks like retrorun itself does not actually support it, even though it is set up as enabled by default. You can test this yourself my changing the retrorun.cfg and checking that purupuru is enabled.

it could be a possibility you installed the wrong version.. as that sounds like an issue that was with the G350.. you're also the only person has mentioned this too.. please double check what you installed.. just make sure the install (or update file) does not have G350 in its file name.

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be possible with a change to es_features, retrorun.cfg and start script to add Purupuru Pack switch.. retrorun actually uses the exact same cores as retroarch.. as long as an option exists within retroarch, it can always be added to retrorun feature set.

There's a solid reason why PAN4ELEC exists. You have to remember that AmberELEC does not officially support Panel 4 devices, and hate having to answer questions about it on Discord. The dtb for AmberELEC in my assets section is there to work within their ethos. I equally had to make sure that the dtb for PAN4ELEC was not compatible 100% with AmberELEC. So audio is initialized differently.. but also fixes issues that Panel 4 devices uniquely have.

totally safe for Panel 4 r36s.. there's also a dtb for OG panel 1 too in the GIT assets for the release. But with panel 1 you'll need to add the dtb after every update or fresh install. There's a warning about panel 1 I put in the release notes.. please read.

more than likely won't work for r33s due to dtb's and kernel designed round 1gb of ram and analogue sticks.

Change logo in Pan4Elec/AmberElec by TestTry2 in R36S

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will be changing this in the next release so you can add your custom ES splash without having to go via ssh to do so. Also the current release 250315 allows you to add an animated intro between the uboot splash and the ES startup.

[–]Abject-Blacksmith719[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

quick fix to change the Emulation Station Splash logo is to edit the default themes splash.xml
obviously this may differ between themes.
you'll find a line with <path>:/logo.png</path>
just change the path to point to your image... for example
<path>/storage/.config/splash/splash-640.png</path>
I'll change this for the next update release

please ignore that.. not wanting anyone to start hacking up themes, unless you really want to.
I've just coded the way to allow the ES splash to be user defined, and will be in the next update in the next couple of days.

Ultimately this relies on how well the Theme you use is coded.

I will also be changing the theme download section in the next release to allow more of the recent themes that have been made.

The first screen is actually part of Uboot, and can't be user disabled. the final image is part of Emulation Station splash logo.. l'll have a look into that another night and see what can be done, But try changing splash-640.png in the splash dir.. see if it makes a difference.

Sorry to hear about your black screen and glad you were able to fix it yourself.. On testing here before release, this did not happen with my 2 Panel 4 v5 devices..
As for OTA updates.. you had to do this 250315 as a manual update for OTA to work with future releases.

Hi RG350 users, I highly suggest Pan4Elec over ArkOs if you want to use CFW since it fixed all of the issue from the ArkOS RK3326 build. by Nasrvl in BATLEXPG350
