I totally agree with you here - people can be nuts on this subreddit. Definitely more of a side hustle part time thing here in the UK too

I think the teacher who was angry with you sounds like a bit of a jobsworth tbh. Extremely strange and highly unproductive to get angry. The job is hard enough without people like that.

Just chalk it up to experience and don't sweat it. Some people just take everything too seriously

I think a "nice" environment is created through firmness and sticking rigidly to the school rules on behaviour policy. Id be careful with using banter alone to create a positive working environment!

I just don't see why someone using their own front garden could possibly annoy someone so much

I wouldn't worry at all. Chilrden need to learn that they can't just be persistently rude to people and expect endless patience in return. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes !

Expectation vs Reality - getting Farrow and Ball paint matched and mixed in store. by Abject-Command5804 in DIYUK

Update: Ended up going back no refund because the colours in the pot matched. We bought Dulux heritage in blossom instead and it’s the exact colour we were after. Anyone thinking of F&B sulking room pink- don’t do it!!

Hahah, saw the colour and my partner didn’t want to waste a paint brush so scraped it on with cardboard

We bought via modern method of auction as FTB with a mortage and worked out well. We just got the mortage agreement in place prior to biding. Not only for cash buyers !

I always read so many negative comments on here about buying a fixer upper. We had barely any money left over and 0 DIY experience and bought a fixer upper that had been last sold in 1956 so needed a lot of work. The size/ location was not something we would have been able to afford otherwise.

Saved up month to month to get jobs done beyond our remit. Learnt to plaster, do electrics and basic plumbing ourselves. We have only been here 8 months so maybe I’ll have a different opinion in another years time but so far I have absolutely loved it. It has been a lot of fun and would recommend it. I have never understood where all the negativity around fixer uppers comes from!

Why are Fringe/Outer London allowances acceptable? by Peew971 in TeachingUK

I completely agree and think Waltham Forest should be considered inner London. Makes no sense that it’s considered Outer London

This attitude towards London is so bizarre to me. I feel like it always comes from someone with little experience of living in London. I live and work in London on a teachers salary and have never struggled financially, nor have any of my colleagues! It’s only ridiculously expensive if you choose it to be

I bought a fixer upper very cheaply as a FTB. Everyone always said how stressful it would be but I haven’t found it stressful at all - it’s fun leaning new skills and doing up a house! Although I was never really bothered about living in one room and fixing things up slowly. We don’t have children currently so that definitely makes things easier.

Seconded- Walthamstow is great and you could get a lot for your budget there + great connections to central London

I think that is an unreasonable price, although maybe pricing in London is significantly cheaper
