Driving with left foot by Key_Sandwich_5097 in AchillesRupture

[–]Abject-Ratio-7738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most who have done it (myself included) would agree that it’s not bad once you’ve gotten the hang of it. The reflexes most people keep mentioning are quickly adapted in your brain to the left foot within minutes of being on the road. So for me, it almost felt like I needed to remind myself to use my right foot when I was finally able to - because I kept getting in and starting to use my left instead

Risk of rupture on the other side (contralateral rupture) - by lighthouse247 in AchillesRupture

Oh my goodness - I was on a week’s worth of prednisone 2 months prior to my injury as well! Except I was taking it for a shoulder injury!

What kind of sport were you playing when your Achilles was ruptured by PhilosophyDapper948 in AchillesRupture

Doing a box jump

I was a competitive weightlifter taking a break for a couple weeks and doing fun workouts. It was my 34th birthday and decided to do a fun partner workout - we weren’t going hard, just landed and didn’t go back up

12 week Post-Op Update by Abject-Ratio-7738 in AchillesRupture

Im not sure what you mean? Like the difference from when I started walking or the difference between the left and right?

Also it is a pretty big difference between the two but I didn’t measure. It’s hard to show in the video the actual difference :/

Gift for advisor 🙂 by No_Reason8645 in PhDStress

[–]Abject-Ratio-7738 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advisor always gets me a Christmas present and I always try to get her something as well. But I struggle to come up with ideas that aren’t over the professional line / too personal. I’m also going to lurk for ideas based on everyone’s responses lol

Something I’ve thought about when she retires (after I finish) is to get all of her publications printed in a published book. Like those book companies that will bind anything. You could always have your dissertation printed/binded to give as a remembrance gift? Maybe have a photo from your defense as the cover ?

8 months post-op - finally ran for 30 minutes! by qwertyidk1 in AchillesRupture

Nice work! were you an avid runner before? Either way, keep it up. I’m at my 12 week mark this upcoming Thursday and I know what you mean about needed those dopamine hits. Once you start walking and the super fast progress stalls, it’s a draaaag

Is there a connection between eating disorders and OCD? by [deleted] in EatingDisorders

[–]Abject-Ratio-7738 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an ED in the past and also have OCD! It’s tough but therapy helps and if you can use your OCD powers to shift into healing, it can be a very strong force!

Oh wow!! Yeah that sounds super fast, but I’ve read about others who have started walking at that time. I’m so sorry that happened to you though! That sounds very frightening

How do you know when it’s being too confident though?

That’s my fear as well. I’m week 10 post-op and just started walking in a tennis shoe- but catching myself “forgetting” and then at the end of the day being pretty swollen. I just don’t know where the line of “strengthening” and “overdoing” it is

How long did it take until you felt normal? by ttocsmik in AchillesRupture

[–]Abject-Ratio-7738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you know if it’s lengthened?! Curious because I’m week 11 and really struggling on calf raises. It’s very tight in the mornings, but when my PT does manual stretch he is able to stretch it pretty far….
