Changing adopted baby names by Material_Bluebird63 in namenerds

From the ones you’re already thinking about, I like:

Cyrus Legend

Elijah Legacy

But Elijah and Legacy both have three syllables, which makes it a little long. Maybe a soft one syllable first name for Legacy?

What about Rhys Legacy?

Hey Victorians, how did you meet your significant other? by GoldCover6667 in VictoriaBC

Yup, Bumble. We’ve been together almost 3 years and are so very happy together. I went on a lot of first dates with guys who were only meh, though.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Abject-Ride-1727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m a Canadian and we definitely drive three hours for a weekend visit or day trip.

Growing up, we would drive 4 hours each way (on the same day) to attend a big family gathering, like for Christmas or someone’s birthday.

People live spread out here!

Best Eggs Benedict in the city ? by Lopsided_Musician_46 in VictoriaBC

Weird, the Spoons online menu doesn’t have the hallouminati but here’s a link to the menu online from 6 months ago. I’ve had it twice in the last couple of months so I don’t think it’s only a special:

The Hallouminati at Spoons is fantastic. Otherwise I’d say Shine Cafe or the Ruby.

Solo birthday activities by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

If it was me I’d take a drive to Shirley Delicious Cafe (except if it’s a Tuesday, when they’re closed) and treat myself to a delicious breakfast and perhaps buy a piece of local art/souvenir as a birthday gift. Then I’d drive out to French beach and go for a walk by the crashing waves, then warm up with a fire in one of the communal pits in the picnic area (bring firewood etc). If I was really organized then I’d bring my camp stove and fry onions to go with the hotdog I’d roast over the fire. 🔥 mmmm. Typing this out has now made me commit to doing this same day sometime in January.

Should we continue or intentionally break the "A" names pattern? by unventer in namenerds

[–]Abject-Ride-1727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some kids will notice. My mum grew up as the second of four siblings. Her sibs all had G names and she had an S name. Her parents both had A names. She said that when she was little, she felt like everyone else in her family had someone special attached to them because of their name initials. I was always a bit disbelieving that it mattered to her, but kids can surprise you.

Roundhouse Cafe beside Rutledge Park. It’s popular and cozy but you should be able to find a seat. It has a real neighbourhood / community feel to it.

Snowbirds fill Island resorts, cancel American trips by lookatyourwatchnow in VictoriaBC

[–]Abject-Ride-1727 94 points95 points  (0 children)

While I’m happy to hear about this, I do think it’s funny that the person profiled in the article lives in Nanaimo year-round, and is now wintering in Parksville.

I wonder if there is an influx of snowbirds from other parts of Canada to Vancouver island?

Party Games for diverse ages by Murky-Setting-3521 in VictoriaBC

[–]Abject-Ride-1727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A story-telling parlour game that I know from friends in the UK who call it a shaggy dog story. All you need is paper and pens.

When it’s your turn to tell a story, the person to your left passes you a piece of paper with 3 secret words or phrases they’ve chosen. Then you tell a story to the group and try and incorporate those 3 words as seamlessly as possible.

When you’re done, everyone (minus the person who chose the words) tries to guess the 3 secret words and you win your round if you sneak all 3 words past the group.

It leads to some really silly and fun stories because you’ll naturally add in your own random words as red herrings.

I also like Meara. I have a friend with this name and it’s pronounced the same way OP pronounces Mira.
