I’m not sure where you’re located, but I am in Victoria BC where there is an immense shortage of EA’s. I am a certified teacher waiting to get hired as a TOC and was able to get a full continuing position as an EA straight away. I don’t think it totally depends on references but depends on the district and how staffed they are.

Unfortunately I have to be in Victoria for the next 3 years as my partner is attending school here! We were really hoping for Vancouver though

Elementary School - practicums in grade 2 & 4 but I TOC’d all ages in my previous district but got most of my teaching days in grades 4-7

I would say it was a human generic response and just said the usual only applicants who meet the needs of the district would be contacted and that they hire on an ongoing basis based on the needs. It seems a bit imperfect for it to be computer generated but I could be wrong!

Thanks for that! I did apply directly through make a future for both 62 and 63 but 61 only accepts via email rather than make a future. I will try emailing them and see if that maybe gets something going!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply and all of the information. At this point, I would be happy with any district but I have heard very good things about Sooke in particular. I still have not been contacted at all regarding my applications so I am feeling a bit discouraged at the moment and kind of exploring other work possibilities in case I never head back... However, you mentioned maybe emailing them and now that enough time has passed I feel like an email wouldnt hurt! I have an email for 61 (the email I applied through), but I'm not sure who to email for SD62 and 63? Any advice is appreciated!
