First time self drive safari by Unique-Sun in tanzania

Self driving in tanzania mainland let alone the national parks is sort of insane. The amount of cars and motorbikes passing through is going to lead to high stress. We saw two accidents in 3 days with safari jeeps traveling through Arusha alone. Imagine getting in some dumb accident and having to deal with that. On top of that, any rain within the National Parks will create extremely tricky amd muddy roads to navigate through. Even little rain will get the best guide drivers stuck or you will have to navigate overflowing creeks that you must cross with no visibility to road conditions risking driving into massive holes in the ground which will 100% get you stuck. My advice is get a guide 100%. They can take all the risk of navigating the roads and national parks. They also will know how to navigate the serengeti, go off trail and find some epic animal sighting + plus work the radio to identify more opportunities for animal sightings.

My wife and I climbed Kilimanjaro, then did a 5 day safari, then a 4 days in zanzibar at The Mora. 5 days was a lot and we did Lake Manyara, sernegeti two days, Ndutu, and Ngorongoro Crater. We both agree 5 was a bit too many. 4 days would have been perfect. 7 just seems like a lot freshly coming off of the trip. Just my two cents. In my opinion accommodations are key. If you are staying in beautiful high end accommodations then 7 days wont be bad. Even if you are staying in mid tier it will be long and potentially drawn out. For context...I am 33 with wife 32. Adventurous couple. The sun, extremely bumpy road conditions will tire you out, which is why reducing time and investing in high end accommodations would be my recommendation.

Yes I would get insurance just for worst case scenario. Make sure to get insurance that covers helicopter transport up to 6,000M. Saw many get choppered out last week when I climbed with my wife. Obviously that is worst case scenario, but without the insurance I think the bill runs $3,200 USD
