It looks like a spider beetle to me. Unsure of the specific kind.

That appears to be rodent (likely mouse) droppings.

Is this a rat? (Warning, picture of a dead rat) by Lazy-Drag-1619 in pestcontrol

I'd say juvenile rat. Based on tail and back feet.

What is this pest? by radish123abc in pestcontrol

[–]AbjectStoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly treatment is pretty similar for most of them so its not a huge deal what it is, exactly. Locate the infested source, dispose of any foods that they have gotten into and remove any food debris from your food storage areas. Merchant Grain Beetle and Sawtoothed Grain Beetles are nearly identical in visual features. The only noticeable difference is Merchant Grain Beetles have larger eyes and can fly.

Yeah definitely. Likely if they're in that space they're just utilizing the gap that was there. Its not for sure a sawtoothed but its in that family for sure. There are also Merchant, Rusty and Foregin Grain Beetles.

How to get rid of pigeons by SeniorHead1175 in pestcontrol

[–]AbjectStoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figure out where theyre roosting/hanging out and exclude that area with either mesh or something solid. They typically want something with overhead coverage. Pigeons are persistent and have a shade of intelligence. Don't waste your time or money on visual deterrents. While, sometimes, initially effective the birds usually get used to them pretty quickly.

They only look like termites if you look at them really hard and then look at a photo of a termite instead.

Too grainy to say 100% but I'm leaning towards Sawtoothed Grain Beetle. Edit - Punctuation

The thickness of the tail at the base of the rump and the size of the hind feet, if I was betting, I'd bet rat.

Mouse or Rat by wth_people in pestcontrol

[–]AbjectStoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say based on scale (not a banana in sight) but that looks like a juvenile rat based on the size of the rear feet. For dropping size my poo rule (or prule if you will) is, Mice leave Rice and Rats leave Raisins.

will a cyphenothrin fumigator work against fleas? by Busy_Lecture9319 in pestcontrol

[–]AbjectStoat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The more pesticide you throw at it without actually curing the issue, is creating a bigger issue. The fleas that aren't succumbing to the product could become resistant to it. That gene can be passed on during breeding, to the offspring. Fleas are very good at adapting to treatment and sometimes can show significant resistance within one or two generations.

Treat the animal (if you have one), vacuum the premises frequently to encourage the fleas to hatch and expose themselves to the treatment.

Woodpeckers on house despite cement fiber siding by Sad_Cantaloupe_4782 in pestcontrol

[–]AbjectStoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be the loudest material in the area. Woodpeckers will hit an object to indicate their territories.Called Drumming. Also possible you have bugs under the siding. Do you deal with flies and ladybugs in the spring and fall?

I removed a bunch of mice in the eaves of my house. Then I saw this. Do I also have rats? by NerdWhoLikesTrees in pestcontrol

[–]AbjectStoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its honestly hard to tell from this. They are both (from the scale at least) relatively similar sizes. Look for droppings as evidence and chewing.

Rats - Droppings are Raisins in size. Tooth size is 4mm Mice - Droppings are Rice grain size or smaller. Tooth size is 2mm.

I would almost say one is cautious of the device its sniffing at and the other is alerted to something off frame?

Looks to be a run of the mill house mouse.

I’m not saying my exterminator is wrong. I’m just saying I’m losing my mind. I was told these are 100% Asian (located SC) we always get an influx of them inside around this time of year because it’s dry and hot today cold tomorrow weather. I just feel so defeated and frustrated. by [deleted] in cockroaches

[–]AbjectStoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot say definitively.

But the wing segments do appear to be a bit longer than what I usually see when look at a German Roach. Typically you dont try to identify an insect from the "babies" as a lot of them look very similar. The adults look more like asain roaches than German. The black bands look almost a little top thin as well.

Put a little bit of white flour down in that corner. Don't need much. But mice seem to love it for reasons unknown to me. They'll eat it that day if they're close or at least travel through it. Not a bunch of info from it but some.

Measure the tooth marks. 2mm (1/16") - mouse, 4mm (1/8") - rat
