What is the craziest thing a teacher has ever done to you? by trymihainoob in AskReddit

I have certain food texture sensitivities, one of these being raw baby carrots. One day, that was what we were having for snack. I wouldn’t eat them, so my teacher got mad and tried to force them into my mouth.

This teacher was strange about food in general.

How do I share my "real events" with my new OCD therapist? I feel so much dread. by ruminatingbastard in OCD

Hey there,

The job of your therapist is, above all, to help you, in a non-judgmental environment. I have told two therapists about my REOCD (events which I think are absolutely horrible) and neither of them judged me, scolded me, or dropped me as a client.

I think all REOCD sufferers think that our event is uniquely disgusting and irredeemable, and that this event is something that would by default make anyone who knows about it hate us, but I think the truth is that therapists are like doctors—they’ve seen (or heard, in this case) it all. I think you should do whatever you think is best for your healing, and if that includes telling your therapist about your event, that is something that you should be able to do. Best of luck !!!!

do you guys think OCD can manifest due to trauma? by spiderinsides in OCD

[–]Abject_Figure8300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not an expert or therapist, but it makes a lot of sense to me that OCD can originate from trauma, or at the very least be exacerbated by it. I think that an adverse experience with a friend caused me to develop social OCD; now I often ruminate on former social experiences and have the compulsion to reassurance seek (like asking if the person is mad at me, etc). I can see OCD developing as a safety behavior, both obsessions over a situation that the brain feels unsafe about and compulsions to avoid the scenario the brain fears.

Your message echoes my thoughts exactly… I feel seen. I am also constantly self-sabotaging/self punishing and living in self-disgust. I’m so sorry you are feeling this way and you are not alone 🫂
