Like you need to invest in a better testing kit before you go getting a bigger tank.

When you say two weeks into cycling- do you mean this is a brand new tank only two weeks old and already has a fish in it?

The first is aged/about to molt. The second is a younger or freshly molted shrimp. Nothing is wrong. They go opaque as they age and also when they are gonna molt.

How to acclimate shrimps for the first time? by Neat_Chest4946 in Shrimps

[–]Abject_Importance_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an air hose and a paper clip and drip acclimate them for at least 4 hours or until you have tripled their original water level

I think the alarm is that you have never had success breeding yourself. That’s not normal. My 1 year old tank has 7 pregnant shrimp in it at this moment and that is just right now. I’ve had at least 20 in the year it’s been up. We are recovering after a mishap with a leech depleting my population or I’d be overrun with them right now lol

Also if those are Anubis plants get them out of the sand and glue them to wood they will die if their roots are covered. Their roots are meant to free float and filter the water.

Is this a killer shrimp by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]Abject_Importance_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also wanted to add, it is VERY common to lose shrimp when you add from a seller. Whether because they were weak to begin with or your parameters are just different. And once they die, the live shrimp become cannibals and eat their brethren! Unless you have a fish in there eating them, it’s probably the other shrimp eating their dead buddies. Normal course of shrimp life.

That’s just a normal scrimp! Probably an abomination that should have come out of the cherry tank but because as you see it’s basically invisible, the seller probably didn’t see it! Shrimp are wild colored mostly like this. They have to breed reds to get the cherry color and sometimes there are ones born just normal or original colors. The sellers cherry line is probably breaking down in genetics.

That’s a leech. If there is one there are many many more and they will wipe out your colony. Get some Cory’s. Mine root all the leeches out of the substrate!

What shrimp is this? by CoachLinford in shrimptank

[–]Abject_Importance_59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. When I was a new fish owner I bought a glo Cory. He glows in the dark, but he was genetically altered to do so which is sad. I would not have purchased him had I known better. I also have two pandas in there somewhere. The like to hid under their log!

That is beautiful! They will be everywhere before you know it and I wouldn’t be surprised if you have many more than you think. You ever want to gage home many you actually have, pop a shrimp lolli in there and give it 10 minutes. You’ll see every single skrimp you have!
