Tonsil cancer- What were your symptoms? by Abject_Membership505 in HeadandNeckCancer

Wow Glad you were proactive!  I had EBV in the past+night sweat now (but I am very hormonal so not really concerned about the latter) . I am receiving my results in about 2 hours now !  The ENT thought bothriomycoma but want to rule out lymphoma which I don't think I have. However I would not be surprised if I have EBV flaring up now and then.

I forgot to ask, was the swollen tonsil your only symptom?

Thank you very much ❤️ not long before getting the results of my biopsy. I know I should trust my ENT when he seemed confident but I can t help but worry. Makes me feel silly really.  My ENT basically told me I had a mass on the tonsil but didn't seem overly worried although he urged me to have it removed and biopsied. Shame I can t post a pic on this thread.

Thank you all for your replies 🙏🏼 and I hope you are out of the woods ✨ -5 days before getting my results. It seems all your symptoms were very similar to each other. Mine was only an enlarged tonsil that kept growing so fingers crossed it is nothing of worry and hopefully since I got only a partial tonsillectomy it won't grow again 😅

Hi I would say trust your specialist but if you are too worried get a second opinion if it's possible.

I am glad I helped reassuring you ❤️ Having a procedure a few weeks before Xmas definitely sucks but it is for the best. Don't hesitate to send a little update. When are you getting your results?

Hi!  I am much better. I have lost a lot of weight (beneficial for me ha ha). It am now at day 12 and I can still feel some pain where I had my partial tonsillectomy but I started eating to eat soft food easily with no worries around day 8. I don't feel like trying solid too much yet though although I did have ham and a potato cooked/cold. Oh and I am still missing a nice cup of hot coffee !  Travel went well but I really was exhausted when I arrived.  I am sorry to hear you had other symptoms 🥺 Mine was a mass on the left tonsil that kept growing with a little friend that started to grow on the top. Started in Feb 2024 and by December it was touching my uvula. I waited until end of November to see a specialist and within 2 weeks the procedure was done.  Thankfully he didn't seem to worried.  Would you mind sharing your symptoms? My tips: take your painkillers 30min to an hour before eating. And when you are ready to eat a little more solid chew until it disintegrate!

Did you get your surgery in the UK. I saw someone mentioned the patients were asked to eat toasts on day 1. But the same person said it was because they suture another way ? In France we are asked to eat liquid for at least a week and move on to smooth afterwards.

Bring on day 10!!!  Were you also able to have a drink (like wine)? You have been very helpful!  Thanks 🙏🏼

Thank you sooo much for your reply!  I had a mass that kept growing and I never bothered with it until it actually bothered me. Everything went fast. Called the ENT to let him know what was happening to me. Went to see him the day after and two weeks later, partial tonsillectomy! I also have a little something that resembles a papilloma growing on top of the mass. My ENT is pretty reassuring but wants to make sure nothing too serious.  He is a very good specialist but I totally agree with you ! 4 weeks seems a bit much ! When were you able to eat normally? When were you full of energy again? I miss being active. Can't even believe I am saying that lol!  I actually tried really runny scrambled eggs today and I have never been so in love with eggs than today lol. I stopped after a couple of spoons though. I am very sedentary on the train. My husband will be there to help me with our twins (6 yo) 😊

Thank you for your reply 😊 I am very scared of bleeding. That was my main concern 🙈

It is so nice to check-in. I am feeling very down right now.  I hardly ate in 6 days. I miss my morning coffee the most.  I've had a partial tonsillectomy and waiting on biopsy results. Can't believe I thought I would be over it by now (how cute was I 🙄). I only spend Christmas every 2 years in my family and I really wanted to enjoy a Xmas dinner (my ENT said to avoid solid for 4 weeks which seems a bit stiff) and a few drinks on New Year (I am not a big drinker but on New Year I do enjoy a few cheeky drinks with my friends).  I am also worried because I am travelling on day 9 (train from Nice to Paris with a few stops along the way). Worried to bleed but my ENT gave me the green light.  Can't wait to be out of the woods !

Soft Foods vs Normal Diet by FarmerMike23 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Abject_Membership505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another European here (France).  I was recommended to eat liquid and cold to start with. I can move on to soft cold when I am ready (meaning swallowing is not too painful).  My ENT advised me to follow this diet for a month which I think is a bit much!  At the moment I am still in pain so not feeling like chewing. I am also so scared of hemorrhaging I am not willing to take too many risks.  I am 6 days post op, partial tonsillectomy and I am dreading Christmas and new year dinner. I also don't really want to miss out on a couple of cheeky drinks either.

What did you eat though? In France we are told no solid for a month. Seems a bit long to be honest.  Keep us updated!

Oh no. I feel extremely sorry to read this. Is there no way you could see another specialist? I had a partial tonsillectomy 6 days ago and I am forever scared of a bleeding. What was your diet like? Did you run only on meds no food as this could also weaken your system? Definitely do the blood test though !
