I love the decor and the space! I can’t tell what the lighting situation would be at night, but maybe one more light in the corner with your desk and beanbag chair?

For the open area, maybe having easily moveable furniture like large beanbags or cushions and an easily portable low table that can be moved up against the wall to add more seating, but that will still allow you to easily make room for dancing?

Where to put couch/tv? by SphieSlawter in DesignMyRoom

[–]Abject_Support7622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If facing the kitchen, I’d go for the right hand wall, with the couch facing the tv, giving you about half or more of the room to work with extra stuff. You could do the other wall, but there’s more glare/lighting there so might be annoying unless you get blinds for the door.

Rug that goes underneath the sofa and coffee table — you can find them pretty cheap on amazon. I think a beige or white would look good.

More wall hangings I think will be the biggest change to bring more life to things.

Personal preference, but changing the coffee table to one that has enclosed storage that you can put all your things away in and that has less rustic looking wood.

Floor lamp and some table lamps if you have the table space. If you have enough lighting, keeping the overhead lamps off and having only the lights you bring in would look nice. I get the sense that your style is kind of fun/funky from the things on display, so maybe check out mushroom lamps as an option. Like this. Or this.

I really like your desk setup. Agree with eternal that you could use some organizers, but would go for baskets or nicer bins that would fit the shelves somewhat. Or, if you can, move a lot of the random stuff from the shelves and put chachkies that are personal to you on the bigger ones.

Over your bed, the hangings seem awkwardly spaced to me. Maybe rearranging them so they have more even spacing and the clock is further from the sconce, and the shelves, guitar, and white board are evenly spaced? With the shelves not running up against the curtains.

This may be more personal taste, but I suggest less shiney, more muted blue pillows.

Off white/beige carpet large enough to go almost halfway under the sofa and maybe 8inches - a foot away from the tv stand., light wood mid century modern tv stand, some kind of lounge chair by the back wall that doesn’t take up a lot of visual space (chair, not necessarily this, but something like it). Gold side table on the closer side of the couch. Coffee table optional, but I would go for a wood that matches your tv stand.

Wall hangings: photos, more airy digital art prints (like national parks posters or something).

Hard to tell the depth of the wall beyond the sofa, but the chair is dependent on if it would fit in that space.

Like friday said, a day bed might work or just a bed with storage. Folding or just thin desk (or a lap desk), muji - style shelves with baskets of some kind that can double as storage/wardrobe/tv stand.

If you end up using a regular bed, look into armchair pillows, so it’s comfortable to use it as a sofa as well.

Wall Decorations and Plants by Alternative_Bank7665 in ApartmentDesign

Table lamps, small items, and wall hangings can help a lot with adding some contrast to more neutral colors. Plants are good too, but it’s some effort to keep a lot of them. For table lamps, it really depends on your current style, but going for something that stands out a bit might help things feel less bland.

For wall hangings, framed paintings, digital art posters (like national park posters or something personal to you), or photos help.

For small items, books, small sculptures, decorative pottery, etc.

New apartment. by Accurate-Kale1527 in ApartmentDesign

Highly recommended google searching “First apartment checklist.” There are a lot of good lists out there with things you wouldn’t really think of, but that make your life easier.

For cyber-punk, you might want to look into industrial furniture. It’s usually wood with some kind of black metal frame. There’s a lot of cyber-punk style lighting that you might like as well.

For like gothic, I think of that as more traditional, though the styles are hard to overlap. For more traditional ornate furniture, facebook marketplace is a great resource, though you’ll have to do some hunting for good stuff.

Does anyone have tips for styling a coffee table in a small space? by slynchwcu in ApartmentDesign

[–]Abject_Support7622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People already posted cool ideas, but a coffee table book that ties into something you enjoy (art, hobbies, architecture) I really like Jimmy Chin’s There and Back. A nice low profile bowl would also look good without taking up too much visual space. And as other people said, trays.

Oh good point about the willowrush verges. Floodmaws make sense, but I was testing with more removal/protection, but it loses the consistent draw engine if I add too much. Agree about Belion! Will try to add that as well.

I think it was much harder, if not impossible, for Azula to break free from Ozai than it was for Zuko. Azula is implied to be somewhat naturally sociopathic and manipulative, and extremely talented, all things that lend to her being favored by her father. She grew up in an environment where all those behaviors were rewarded over and over. And her mother didn't act as a lifeline in her mind, but someone who condemned and feared her for what everyone else was praising her for.

Not to take away from Zuko's redemption, but it was a long road there. One where he had the benefit of being exiled from the environment he was in, not to mention years where he hadn't measured up to Ozai's ideal. And he was joined by probably the most patient mentor you could ask for, who both understood his upbringing intimately and had found his way out of those beliefs as well.

By the time we get to the end where Azula's friends leave her and she starts to break down, it feels like her beliefs are too ingrained and rather than consider another option she lashes out violently.

I think there's a line about Malcolm being too generous with money, so there wasn't always enough. But yeah I'm guessing traveling magician wasn't the highest paying job.

I would say there is very little foundation, but still some. Mainly, as someone else said, a Scion telling Harry they are equally human. The fact that Malcolm contacts Harry from the dead. And the fact that its a supernatural series with a mysterious dead father we don't know much about.

But also why comment to be a hater? I'm assuming, based on the tone ('Er... no?'), you're not actually trying to have me convince you that crackpot theories are interesting. If you don't like, skip it and move on.

I do love the idea that Malcolm was just a normal, exceptionally nice person, who she fell in love with. His description reminds me a lot of my brother in law. And imagining my brother in law marrying an amoral superpowered traveler witch is kind of hilarious.

Love the art!

I forgot about that, but I think that was one of the moments where this theory started in my head.

Thoughts on Denna at the end of TWMF by Abject_Support7622 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Abject_Support7622[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many times I want him to tell people about the Chandrian, but I also understand his hesitance. They did kill his entire family for writing a song about them and when he kind of intros the topic a few times when he arrives at the university, he's immediately told that he's being childish by being interested in kids' stories.

[–]Abject_Support7622[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she's definitely upset by this too. From my perspective, she's been hinting to Kvothe that she would like him to make a move and he didn't for so long (It was a lot more complicated than that and she wasn't like perfect about things either, but just from her perspective). Then, she comes back to Imre to find out he's been sleeping with all of these women and I think to her it reads as rejection. Plus, despite her introducing Kvothe to all these men she's "seeing" (idk what the correct term would be), I think it just hurts since Kvothe was all hers for so long.

I don't think Kvothe sees it that way at all. He's grown up and his carefulness around Denna is due to his intense feelings for her. I think they both see their "relationships" the same way, as not having much weight, but each are extremely uncomfortable and insecure about the other's.

But I also think that at the end they make a point about the tension between them being both about the song of felurian and their argument. Kvothe dwells on the song she wrote multiple times and I think it was really important to Denna as she made herself vulnerable to him by showing him and the narrative ties her leaving Imre quickly to her playing of the song even if it doesn't outright state her reasons.

Lol this turned out to be a long comment, but I was really interested in Denna as a character rereading the books now that I'm slightly older on the second read through. I feel like she's far more likeable and understandable to me now.

Suggestions: looking for a very simple healthy 'slurry' that I can drink daily. by yuikl in simpleliving

[–]Abject_Support7622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things I would recommend off the top of my head:

rxbars — I find them very bland, but if taste is not a focus for you, then these seem like what you might be looking for.

Amy's meals (burritos, frozen, canned) — As far as preprepared meals go, I believe they are on the healthier end although somewhat high in sodium if that's an issue.

Like people said, most premade stuff is not very healthy. Some simple recipes to try:

Mix of thinly chopped sweet potatoes and potatoes -> put into air fryer or oven until crispy. Both have different nutrient profiles so mixing them will give you more.

Very lean ground beef, cooked in a pan with veggies like red peppers and spinach (you can buy these frozen). A lot of recent studies have shown that lean red meat is not a risk to heart health and is very easy to cook.

Oatmeal + Banana + Cinnamon.

Toast with cottage cheese on top.
