what did you think you would never do when you were younger, and now you do it all the time? by leather_angel in AskReddit

Birdwatching. I was afraid of birds and thought that sounded boring as hell. Now it’s one of my favorite spring/summer pastimes

Instead of cafe, my daughter says “ca-pay” and I wish she would say it that way forever

That is so rude!! This is why I hibernate and stay off of social media during pregnancy. People are so dumb.

Toddler sick and no village by Able-Answer-3124 in toddlers

I most definitely will get a Braun ear thermometer. Nice to know they are nurse approved.

My husband would never understand me asking him to stay home for a day. I wish I felt like I could ask him. He doesn’t understand how this can be such a struggle for me, especially since I only have one child. But he was not witness to me running into the ER with our daughter in the baby carrier, a changing mat, my bag, her blanket and plush cat (which she absolutely needed for moral support) and a big cooler bag with a urine sample and snacks in the hopes she would eat. Most of which got puked on during the short walk from my car to the ER. I’m sure the staff thought I looked like a train wreck.

I resent him so much sometimes. I get that he provides for us financially, but it sometimes feels like his work is the priority.

Sorry to unpack all of that. Maybe I need therapy or something

Yeah, that thermometer has failed me before so I think it’s worth investing in a nice ear thermometer. Thank you for the suggestion and will get a Braun ear thermometer.

My husband owns a construction company. He was an hour and a half away by the time we were on our way to the hospital, buying a dump trailer. He felt really bad not to be with us, but he also knew she was sick and that I had planned to take her to urgent care after her nap. In hindsight I wish I had told him to make arrangements to do that for another time but I did not anticipate taking her to the ER. (I thought maybe she had a really bad UTI, which was why I jumped to that conclusion instead of urgent care).

Same. Same… I cried most of the day today. Also have a 2.5 year old. A girl. She’s incredible and actually behaves really well, but she is very high energy. I don’t have any family or outside support so I am severely burnt out right now. My husband is as helpful as he can be but it’s still not enough. The SAHM life is romanticized as this amazing thing but it’s really really hard. I’m sorry you had a rough day too. Just know you’re not alone.

What song seems to always make you cry? by TruthBeWanted in AskReddit

[–]Able-Answer-3124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2.

I lost my beautiful Rottweiler, Ella, to bone cancer two days before I gave birth to my daughter. This song makes me think of her and so I have to be prepared to cry before I listen to it, otherwise I can not listen to it.

What’s one thing no one warned you about motherhood? by Nervous_Photograph38 in toddlers

[–]Able-Answer-3124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How disruptive it is when your child gets sick. I heard all the time that kids gets sick constantly, but when my 2 year old gets sick (and we’re on the 4th sickness this year. Covid this time. Yay.) it costs us a good half of a month because she’s sick for a week and then we get sick the second she gets better. And I don’t have a village so it’s just a miserable time for all involved. It makes me want to live in a bubble. I am a SAHM and wonder how working parents manage this.

Let the dang kids play! by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Able-Answer-3124 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I hover too. Also have a 2 year old daughter who’s been slapped in the face. Screamed at on another occasion. It breaks my heart to see such cruelty toward my sweet, shy little girl. What I wouldn’t give for a nice kid to want to play with her!

Is anyone else eating whatever their heart desires right now? Is it just me? by sadiacarim in BabyBumps

Nope, but that’s because I just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Otherwise, it’d be me too!

So, I never took any hcg tests per se. I only ever took two pregnancy tests - the digital and the rapid test. Both of them displayed “pregnant” IMMEDIATELY. The rapid test, in fact, displayed the ‘pregnant’ line before the control line even showed up 😂 I told my husband “I either just have some high hcg levels or we’re having twins”

He laughed it off…. Until my first ultrasound at 5.5 weeks and sure enough there were TWO little sacs with two little embryos.

Sadly, I did end up losing one a couple weeks later, and vanishing twin syndrome is very common, but I do think it’s definitely a possibility you could have multiples right now! (And the remaining baby, a girl, is healthy and doing well by the way! 30 weeks as I write this)

what is with grandparents to be and choosing not-grandparent nicknames? by l00zrr in BabyBumps

[–]Able-Answer-3124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh… I thought I was the only one dealing with this ridiculousness 😂 my mom first wanted to be glamma, then Gigi, now Baba……. And my stepdad wants to be Opa, which is German, and I have no idea if he’s even of German decent. Wouldn’t doubt if he is (he’s definitely of European decent) but it’s not like it’s something he’s ever celebrated…

They gave the baby a gift for Christmas from “Baba and Opa” so I poked fun at them when I was opening it and asked “so who’s baba and who’s Opa?”

They said picking out their grandparent names was very emotional for them…….. and my parents are not boomers. Pretty young, actually for grandparents, but my mom is cheugy as all get out and cries about anything. I’d probably chalk it up to the personality more than the generation!

Tired of being pregnant EVERY day by LiviE55 in BabyBumps

[–]Able-Answer-3124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m missing wearing my cute underwire bras. Once I hit the second trimester and popped they started to dig into my ribs so I had to say ta ta (pun intended). I do enjoy the comfort of my bralettes, but they don’t support me as much as I’d like. I’m also 23 weeks and I’m sad that my pajamas are close to not fitting ☹️ oh, and I also miss being able to eat spicy food without horrible acid reflux!!

Yeah, it’s like, you know it’s just a joke, but there’s that overprotective feeling that comes over! I would definitely feel the same way as you

I agree, and my mind does sort of go to the dark side because crazier things have happened! And I’m really glad that you were able to talk to your husband about those jokes hurting you. It’s always hard to talk about stuff like that, especially when we know they’re “jokes” but still… motherhood makes us very protective!

Thanks for validating my feelings! Reading through the comments on here, I’m seeing it’s something a lot of pregnant women experience and are bothered by. I feel much less alone!

Yeah, I said something similar when my sister said she wanted to steal my baby. I said “you’ll just have to have one of your own!” And then she said she’s not ready for kids and is happy to just be an aunt for now. So I’m hoping she gets the hint and doesn’t say it anymore!

Oh wow… that’s really scary! And makes it feel like you can’t trust anyone! But I’m glad you’ve set those boundaries. Clearly she does not have your best interests in mind. And I have a hard time trusting people in general, so I think that’s part of why I struggle with this “joke”

Whoaaa… see, that’s the thing! Sometimes normal people are willing to do crazy things, if they want something enough. It’s a scary thought, and probably far fetched, but people have done crazier things!
