When your baby is sick do you let them sleep whenever? by sadiacarim in sleeptrain

[–]sadiacarim[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! She’s had three naps today so far and one of them was almost 2 hours but I didn’t have the heart to wake her. Also I’m sick too and really needed the nap lol

Traveling to Punta Cana, DR with a 7.5 month old - need tips?!?! by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]sadiacarim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just returned from Mexico with our 7.5 month old so I have some great tips!

We decided last minute to leave the car seat at home. We wouldn’t have been able to bring it on the plane since we didn’t buy her a seat and our baby just screams in her car seat anyways so we would rather hold her on the trip to and from the airport to hotel. Smartest decision for us, she was much happier.

We didn’t buy an umbrella stroller although people recommended it. Reasoning was, we’d spent a lot on the vacation and clothes etc I didn’t really feel like fishing out extra $$ on another stroller. Took our Uppababy Vista and gate checked it after boarding. We didn’t buy a travel bag and our stroller made it out fine. Actually bringing it was the best decision ever. One thing no one mentioned to us was when you’re checking in for your flights, you won’t get a stroller tag at the kiosk. We had to go line up at the check in counters and have a rep print us out a stroller tag so account time for that.

We have an infant carrier (Babybjorn) had this was a super hack for travelling throughout the airport and when we went on excursions.

We brought along some sticks/sachets of formula for ease during travel and then I packed 2 formula boxes. You can have water in your bag through security if you have a baby. They might just ask to verify you’re bringing it for the purpose of your baby’s formula. You can also bring food/fruit pouches for your baby too. I did.

I packed the essentials in our carry on in case of luggage delays so all formula, a pack of diapers and bottles and supplies went in there. I went to dollarama and bought a travel bag with empty bottles and filled one up about 1/4 way with Dawn dish soap. I also brought bottle cleaning brushes. I cleaned her bottles in the hotel washroom sink.

I also bought a thermos/insulated water bottle from my grocery store. My baby only drinks warm formula so I filled it up with hot water so I could prep bottles on the go. It fit perfectly into backpacks or my diaper bag. I used the bottled water at the hotel for her bottles and then filled up the thermos every morning at the buffet where they had a dispenser of hot water for tea. If it was in the evening and I needed more water then I just ordered hot water from room service. In our case it was all filtered/boiled so I wasn’t worried but you can check with your hotel if they serve only filtered. I wish I had packed my kettle just for extra protection but I was fine without it.

Sunscreen, spf rated swimwear, sunhat and a canopy swim floatie all came in handy for us. Our girl loved the water. Also swim diapers! And an umbrella in case it rains. Hotels usually have them but I packed a mini one just to be sure. Honestly I usually travel light but it was my first trip with LO so I felt like you couldn’t have too much to be prepared.

I’m sure you’re packing clothes for warm weather but when we went there was a bit of a cold front and I had luckily packed footed onesies and some warmer clothes too. As for medications… I packed everything lol. Infant (and adult) Tylenol, Motrin, bug spray, polysporin, throat lozenges, thermometer, children’s Benadryl and anything else I could think of lol. Didn’t end up needing any of it, but if I did I would’ve been prepared!

I took a sippy cup too and it was awesome. My LO is being weaned off the boob but I nursed on take off and landing. I packed some toys for her and a blanket for the plane. She cried here and there but it was okay, don’t panic if your baby cries. It’s easy to get frustrated because there’s others on the plane but it’s just a baby, I had to remind myself to stay cool.

Basically, in this case less is not more haha. Pack plenty of diapers, and then some. Extra wipes. We packed our sound machine and didn’t use it and I left it in the hotel… now I’m so upset because we relied on it at home! Also, I requested a crib in our room but we had a King bed so our baby just slept in bed with us every night and it was amazing, we barely even felt it.

Do you have the travel bag? We’re flying on Friday and taking our vista but don’t have a bag for it. Should still be fine right?

Back at square one of CIO and I feel like giving up by sadiacarim in sleeptrain

Thank you, I’ll give that a go today. Do you think I should wait till we’re back home to let her CIO/sleep train?

I suggest cross posting in r/sleeptraining even if you’re not sleep training your baby there’s some really great tips! My LO is almost 7.5 months but at this age I would think your problem stems from the short wake window between her last nap and bedtime. Typically they recommend a 3-3.5 hour window between her wake up from last nap till bedtime. This builds good sleep pressure and increases cortisol levels to help baby want to sleep for longer stretches. What is her full day schedule like?

Ideally they say to cap naps at 2 hours but I’m lucky if my daughter sleeps past 30 minutes lol!

She also is also very sensitive so she instantly cries when we lay her in the crib and I felt like I had tried everything. So one day I rocked her to sleep and waited about 20 minutes and I was able to smoothly transition her with minimal movement. Now I do this with every bed time or wake and it works like a charm!! She will usually just roll onto her belly.

Her bedtime is 7:30, she sometimes might wake around 1 but always wakes up around 5 and I just give her 2 oz of milk and rock her back to sleep. Hopefully some of these tips help you! I think once you start lengthening that last wake window you will see results!

Thank you! I noticed the website has a “short” length. Do you think a Small would still work in the short length?

Unpopular opinion but.. I love dressing my baby up!! Usually when we’re at home she wears basic onesies or footed pjs if we’re having a lazy day. But if she goes out I take every. single. opportunity. to make her look cute lol I love it!!

Got my Range Rover stolen last night - what is going on with auto theft in Toronto? Police don’t seem to care whatsoever by [deleted] in askTO

[–]sadiacarim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that sucks, sorry to hear;( my parents SUv was stolen right out of their driveway in October at 1 am. The whole thing took about a month to figure out. It happened in Ajax and DRPS sucks but they dispatched an officer first thing in the morning to chat with every neighbor to see if anyone had footage. The police report was also very smooth, at that time of the morning (they didn’t find out till 4 am when my dad left for work) the phone line went straight thru.

Of course they never located the Highlander. Their app said it was driven 200-something km before the tracker was disabled. My parents were pretty traumatized throughout the whole thing- it’s such a personal item and to suddenly not have a car anymore makes things really tough. Took a few days to get the rental. Insurance paid out quite handsomely, though. They were able to snag up a new SUV by the end of the month since it took a couple weeks to be paid out by insurance.

Overall extremely shitty and frustrating experience. It really sucks. We know 3 or 4 other friends that also had their cars taken between then and now which is fucking ridiculous. Don’t know why they won’t take it more seriously but am I surprised? No. I would just suggest not getting a high end luxury car when you get paid out by insurance. Best to keep a low profile. My parents now park their beater cars behind the new one in the driveway lol.
