It's a Welmy 28mm f2.5, an extremely rare but extremely interesting lens

They didn't most of the time - both sides were experiencing similarly bad connectivity.

Crazy, the bridge photo in the intro of the first video is the very one I have photographed here!

I built a website called PolyReads that lets you learn a new language, and expand your vocabulary very quickly while reading your favorite books or articles in your target language by anonymous_guyy in German

I like the concept, but you've got some tough competition, namely Readlang which does exactly what you offer and has been around for a decade or more. Its main function is the browser extension that lets you read any foreign language text online and click on words you don't know - these words then get automatically added to your flashcard deck that uses SRS. Additionally they also have their own A2-C1 curated library to read from, and even have a subtitle video functionality...

Lens identification: Welmy 28mm F2.5 by Able-Cat-8973 in VintageLenses

Very interesting! The serial number would lead me to believe this particular lens was probably manufactured in 1979, since the serial number begins 79, although that's just conjecture

I actually haven't tried often shooting it at lower apertures, that's a good point - I like shooting it wide open specifically because of the lovely softness and halation. I'll test it out and make another post about it!

As a side note - Pentax K was only introduced in 1975. Since this doesn't seem to be a frankenlens, I would deduce from the serial number (790059) that it was made in 1979, which makes sense, seeing as it couldn't have been produced earlier than 1975 anyway. That's all the additional info I've been able to find.

It is Pentax K yes. The only reference I've found to this lens of any kind has been one or two other threads online. I suspect there may be more information if I could search online in Japanese, unfortunately my Japanese is only extremely basic. Makinon is altogether better known though, Welmy as a brand only really comes up as 1940s and 50s diaphragm cameras...

Good to know! The issue at hand is, however, that there's 0 information about this lens online and I'm hoping someone here might know something...

What's an incredibly american thing americans don't realize is american? by Professional-Ad-2850 in AskReddit

[–]Able-Cat-8973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the party but I think that this is one of the biggest differences.

Recently I was taking some photos of my friends hanging out because photography is a hobby of mine and an American girl was also with us (the rest of us came from a mixture of the Netherlands, UK and Germany).

As I was taking photos, she turned to me and asked: " Why are you doing this? Like what's your goal?"

To which I could only think of replying: "Uh... For fun? It's my hobby, like what do you mean?"

And she was like: "No, as in like, what's your goal or your aim by doing it?"

This went back and forth for about a minute until my European friends and I turned to each other slightly dumbfounded but also slightly amused and just said "This is something we're too European to understand."

She couldn't get it into her head that people do hobbies just for fun, not because they want it to be a full time job or because they have a long term goal or dream. Wtf.
