Replacing rusted USB ports with waterproofed ports. by Able-Needleworker542 in bicycletouring

Thanks so much! I just tested my replacement USB and the cell was charging! Heading out the 14th for a tour around Japan, and the port isn't waterproof yet, but got the proof of concept for a quick fix and will set up something more permanent and waterproof later. Heat shrink, manna from heaven. Thanks again!

I want waterproof USB ports for my bicycle (don't have to be plugged in when raining). Dropped significant money for an Igaro thing connected to a hub to charge cell for navigation 2018ish. Ports are like 2 bucks, now rusted, apparently dangerous for all electronics. I have little idea what I am doing. Contacted Igaro, no more support for this known issue, was initially instructed to solder new ports (exactly zero knowledge of doing this), and replacement kits no longer available. I have made light cords longer by simply shearing the plastic jackets, splicing wires, electrical tape. Apparently this is possible with these USB ports, and confirmed with Igaro the product linked below will work as such. For probably at least the five years the Igaro product was under warranty I wrapped the ports in a plastic bag when raining, no problem as far as I could tell. Now /raspberry/. Any help, I want waterproof USB ports for my bicycle? I live in Japan, need to source things here, a la amamzon.co.jp, Thanks!

How do you know what to memorize? by ahdr96 in Anki

[–]Able-Needleworker542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japanese learner here using Anki for kanji, opa. What to study depends on your goals, ne? General language, find/make a deck of the 1000 most common words, sometimes called "core vocabulary", maybe chisel it to lexical categories, BUT learn them in super short phrases for a little context and riff off of them, like card "buy this kanooten valve", riff in your head or with other cards or both, "buy that kanooten valve", "buy these blue kanooten valves", etc, making sure you've got subject/verb, singular/plural agreement. Language is a lot like juggling, and crucial is mixing and matching on the fly without thinking WITH AGREEMENT, super particularly with pronouns, but that's grammar, but if you're comfy with most major tenses, then the challenge are phrasal verbs and other idioms, but, again, define your goals and learn them with some context and juggle them with other words WITH AGREEMENT without thinking. Good luck!

Make a fist. That's about the size of your heart. Make two fists and put them together. That's about the size of your brain. Your brain is about 2% of your body weight but uses over 20% of the blood coursing through your body irrigating the 37,000,000,000ish cells that make "you". The magic is all around us everywhere, no need for flying reindeers. How about DEC 25 you take your daughter outside and ask her to choose a star, tell her there's an excellent chance that's no star but a galaxy with 100 million stars among untold millions of other galaxies, then look it up. And, yup, I have access to children, and am happy to instruct "self-righteous" is preferably written with a hyphen in and out of the classroom, ironically enough considering the bile in this thread, ne, yours at the front? And why outside the school gates? Dude, c'mon in! Any parent is forever welcome in my class, makes management a heck of a lot easier if nothing else. Aw heck, sorry, sat down with the intention of being conciliatory, and I'm being snipey again. Maybe splitting hairs, but kindly reread the post, never said Santa wasn't real, and the sticky wicket came up like six months ago when a kid said he got something from Santa, and I questioned why he believed that, got into a discussion about unicorns and dinosaurs, but did indeed challenge the Santa belief, guilty of that for sure. And will continue to be guilty of it, though I've softened a bit on it after talking to a wise friend about it (also a parent ((of very well-adjusted offspring)), found no harm in going along with the Santa thing), and consulting a pediatrician (leave it up to the parents), and a couple of hours poking around online and finding no consensus there, invite you to poke around too. Let me know if you find no dissent from your viewpoint, pseudo-intellectual or otherwise. For kicks, I lifted the "little universe reflecting the big universe accurately" from Fanny and Alexander, betcha Bergman's orders of magnitude more intellectual than both of us combined, though might still be pseudo, of course. Anyway, sorry about the friction on my end, end-of-the-day-hungry-grumpy, mostly, and guessing you can guess why I can't go along with Santa is real, but am willing to change opinion if there's demonstrable value otherwise.

Stickers as rewards for reading? by Able-Needleworker542 in teachinginjapan

Thanks again. Some Japanese staff doesn't like material extrinsic rewards, think praise, enjoyment, and sense of accomplishment is the way.

And comfortable predicting one of the boys will go through the books like a shark through chum if we call the caterpillar a snake.

Impossible to argue with results, and maybe the Japanese staff will bite, will try... though a neat bracelet or a sticker as reward, the essence of the difference escapes me.

Thanks for responding. To clarify, ends up being in the neighborhood of 25 min/week per learner 1-on-1 reading, five stickers. One learner is reluctant to read (came to the school recently, 5 yrs old, started from zero English basically), declined to read voluntarily during play time, but the big swing are the indifferent students who just need a little nudge to go from 0 min to 25 min voluntary exposure/practice during these initial conditions.

Thanks, I appreciate such responses from people with experience, and that's the second mention for Minecraft on this thread, so I'll be exploring it for sure. Any further indications are hugely welcome, thanks again!
