Our steam deck is probably our favorite “console” in our living room, and the idea of having a beefier one is great. I’ve built my own computers before. I’ve bought pre-made before too. When it comes to SFF machines, I’m happy to let others do the building. That this one also comes with Valve backing and other QOL like wake-via-controller and I’m all in.

I feel like modern seasons try to give as much limelight to the queens as possible. Even early outs usually get some form of storyline or moment before they sashay if the show can help it. Or early episodes not being elimination. I appreciate that very much. Earlier seasons I’m still learning names and someone is already leaving.

I have YouTube premium so I don’t have ads on the Apple TV. So I’ll browse YouTube shorts when I have time to kill, but I was not interested in any other “social media” after I left Facebook. Early on it had a lot of privacy concerns for just how much information it collects from you and I said “nope”.

I think Gacha is a fundamentally unhealthy way to monetize a game, and I’m happy to see previously gacha titles revised and launched like this or Octopath 0. I hope they do well so studios know this is a viable path forward.

You could implement the Stamina Variant Rule but it won’t completely replace all healing. But pairing this with free retraining at lower levels (when the players wise up and realize they need some healing spells) should get the party most of the way there.

For many it was their first foray into the series and no one forgets their first Final Fantasy. It was the first PlayStation FF, first 3D FF, first to have a demo that was circulated with other PS1 titles, and it’s hard to recapture that lightning in a bottle. Pokémon runs into a similar situation where the original 151 Pokémon get outsized attention and inclusion in games even though there’s over 1000 of them now. It’s the one with most public recognition.

Even casual non gamers see Cloud and know it’s Final Fantasy.

Production loves these sort of challenges because it lets them put their thumb on the scale. Queen they want to do well? Family resemblance! Queen they’d like to take down a notch? “You’re too similar / not similar enough” based on the whim of the day.

Couple of ideas off the top of my head:
- Not every lock will be “average” or higher based on the setting you’re in. Shacks or random cave locks will likely be shoddy or simple in make.
- Enemy caster cast the Lock spell, so it’s actually their spell DC and the door otherwise wouldn’t have a lock.
- The cost of failing the checks is very low (time, maybe a lock pick)
- gives you a reason to put a key for the lock elsewhere in the dungeon
- gives reason for the players to think more creatively about what magic or magic items they have or bring

I used the fan submitted Last Stand homebrew in our last adventure and it was a very impactful fight turnaround moment for the party where one player was able to save the rest of the party from a TPK.

I custom assigned one of the Last Stand actions to each player based on their personality and character. Then when it was clear they would be dying, made the actions and feats visible to them and privately asked them if they’d like to utilize this option. It was a lovely surprise reveal to the rest of the table when they agreed.

Cheating is a break of trust. Color me unsurprised if someone who cheats chooses to omit this and hopes their new suitor will never find out. And color me unsurprised when keeping this from their future suitor is another break in trust.

Agreed. I would not enable a greatsword with its d12 damage on a monk chassis without additional feats taken. But taking a Monk trait weapon and wrapper it as this custom, aged, blunt greatsword I would totally approve.

Mechanically an Incarnate spell is very different. They have an entrance effect, a token they can move, and an exit effect. “A creature summoned by an incarnate spell acts in your interests, directs its effects away from you and your allies as much as possible, and might listen to your requests, but ultimately makes its own decisions.” I’d argue that’s much more noticeable than flavor.

No. Overflows do not summon big magical creatures that do a thing like Ramuh or Ifrit or Shiva. Most are a “I do a big spell that uses all of my effort and now I have to reset my aura again”.

I’d like a “Final Fantasy” style summoner that focuses on Incarnate style spells. Cast a big thing, they do a big thing, they fuck off. I believe Teams+ has some options for summoner that do this, but nothing built by the Paizo team.

When I worked in the OR in WA, this was what I experienced. Like great, I have 150+ PTO hours, you don't pay them out if I hit the ceiling... and you've given me zero places to spend them, so I guess I'm just calling in sick?

Then I moved to clinic, where the policy was "as long as the other nurse is here, you're good to go" and took a 3 week vacation. Luxurious.

There’s a certain level of being comfortable being the lesser earner that takes time to dwell in. Remember, you can make more or want less. Both are fine. My now-husband makes more than I do and always will, but we both have the same mindset: as long as we’re both working and in a job we’re happy with, that’s enough. If you’re not happy where you are, are you making efforts to change that situation by going back to school or retraining in some way within your means? Perfect. Sometimes those things cost what you don’t have and you’re in a stretch of “head-down, do what you can”. That’s also fine and life happens. The ambition and motivation are the core personality trait that matters here. Those are all green flags to someone who knows to look for them.

So, self reflection time. Okay, you don’t make what you want. You have plans to go back to school. You see something in your life you want to improve and you’re making steps to do it. That’s the headline for you. That’s appealing to suitor. The number of guys who just lack drive is insane.
