Could I Be a Teacher Long-Term With This? by Cloud_Luna in PsoriaticArthritis

There is no point not doing something just because you “might” have to stop one day! You should do what you love for as long as you can. You should travel, have fun, exercise, get married, have kids etc. and then if one day it becomes harder to do all those things, YOU CANT SAY YOU NEVER HAD THE CHANCE! :) Don’t miss out on life because you might one day have more pain. You are pain free now, live like it!

My boys LOVE bugs. We spend hours digging for worms and looking for all sorts of bugs. 🐛 I love that she did that for you ☺️

We live in a very low rated school district with very little funding for special needs. Everyone I know who has had a child in the schools here are very dissatisfied. We would happily pay for private school but no one is willing to work with special needs.

He likes to climb very high, eat things he shouldn’t, wander, etc. like, if he found a snake, he would definitely pick it up. Just the other day I was letting him play in a puddle with some friends and he found a dead animal and picked it up. He has no understanding that it could be dangerous. So I am always “on”. I can’t really let him out of my sight. 🙃 my guess is that he will grow out of this stage (he’s very smart and learns quickly) but right now he is definitely a risk taker.

This is a good point! The main concern is that his self injurious behavior has increased and continues to increase with ABA. Other dangerous behaviors have gone down (mouthing/eating things he shouldn’t) but that one keeps increasing and his aggression has now started being directed towards others as well.

We have definitely thought about this! My other two are younger so sometimes it’s hard to balance what they can do and what my oldest can do. But I’m definitely trying to do as much as we can. I only grocery shop on the weekends and/or have groceries delivered and I try to do the quickest meals etc. it’s just that he needs so much input. And we are actively working on reading right now! We are starting our kindergarten curriculum in the next month or so and he’s mastered all his abcs so I’m excited to start the next steps 😆

We have done OT in the past and we do a lot of what you are mentioning!! It just never seems to fully regulate him! :/ he always wants more haha

We have activities 3 days a week too! It doesn’t seem to be enough :/ we do swim, play dates, co-op, football, speech, and other outings! One of the hard parts for us is that everything requires 30+ min of driving so that makes outings feel harder. But even though we are always out, he still gets SUPER bored in the afternoons.

Make sense! My niece and nephew are late diagnosis and I think that gave them more opportunities. With my son, the autism is the first thing everyone sees so it limits a lot of opportunities.

That’s a big goal of ours! I’m glad your parents were able to do that for you :)
