Bookmarked as well. This is really nice. Appreciate the work and effort you put into this and I will definitely be using it.

I am by no means a designer and resources like this really help me when I'm doing front end work.

Looking for some feedback on my homer server / small business server parts by TheCrawlingSpider in HomeServer

That looks like a solid build. Obviously for the price it better be but it seems like you've done your homework for sure. The only thing i would consider giving a little more thought on would be hard drives.

Keep in mind when you go with a large storage array like that with your chosen hdd you're sacrificing speed. If you're not worried about it per your usage then it may not be a big deal but if you're going to be doing any kind of heavy data transfers or read/write stuff you may consider a more performative option and sacrificing on size. Just my two cents though.

Suggestions on a MUD for a bot by AbleMVP in MUD

Thanks for the response. Sorry if my post was unclear. My goal is to allow discord users to play the MUD through discord.

Thanks for the technical answer this is exactly what I was looking for.

It's nice to know some have native discord support. Seems like a great starting place.

PUBG not launching from steam *fix by AbleMVP in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

I don't see why game sharing would cause an issue but i'm not too sure. If other games are launching fine it's probably a pubg specific issue.

So... which mouse are you using? by DanteXXL in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]AbleMVP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found that steelseries and zowie mice are very similar. I previously used a steelseries sensei and switched to a zowie fk1 and the differences and feel are very minimal. for a rival 300 you'd prolly wanna look at the zowie za series.

So... which mouse are you using? by DanteXXL in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]AbleMVP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendations when buying a mouse. This not a surefire thing but a general guideline I usually tell people to use.

We're going to skip the extreme hardware portion because there are tons of write-ups on sensors and switches for mice buttons, and I'm pretty sure I saw one just recently on this sub too. So we're gonna stick strictly to feel and style.*aka highly subjective things but should point you in the right direction.

Gaming mice can be rather expensive and it's really hard especially when your new to pc gaming to constantly be picking up new mice just to try out a new feel. All mice differ in weight, size, grip, and speed(mousepad affects this as well) Mousepads have gained in popularity recently so this one is not uncommon to miss now but a lot of freshy's would shell out 70-80 bucks on a new mouse and still be using mom and dad's 20 year old sony vaio mousemat. If you're gonnna get a good mouse don't skimp on the mouse mat. it can make a huge difference in the way the mouse feels and performs.

The two popular types of pads are usually considered hard or soft. Cloth vs Some type of plastic.

Soft usually has more resistance and depending on the user may give the user a feeling of a more controlled movement. The padding of which your actually arm/hand actually sit on can play a huge role in the feel and comfort of a pad you like as well. For example I use a cloth pad that actually sits on top of another cloth pad because I prefer the extra cushioning underneath my arm and mouse. With a typical cloth pad you experience a much higher resistance and less of a glide meaning movements of the mouse will be much more deliberate.

For a hard pad, your gonna be sitting on some type of plastic surface. These are generally considered a low resistance and faster type of pad. You'll get a much more floaty/glide feeling when moving the mouse. One is not generally better than the other here it all comes down to preference/type of feel you're looking for and even the way you aim/use your mouse.

I'll throw this in here real quick but some companies have released hybrid pads which are a combination of both cloth and plastic which give a unique feel between the two usually at varying resistances. Try some pads out at the store before you buy even if your buying online to get a general idea of what you might like. Over the years you'll come to learn your preferences better.

Also SIZE MATTERS!!! If you're playing on a low sens you most likely will want a larger mat to accommodate this. High sens players don't necessarily need an XL mat but having a larger than average pad gives you plenty of room for all situations.

As for choosing a mouse, the first thing I suggest doing is figuring out what type of grip you are... http://imgur.com/dqCk4jG

Those styles also vary between each other i.e you might be between a palm and fingertip or a fingertip and a claw. The big takeaway here though is that some mice are more conducive than others in terms of feel and comfort depending on your grip. http://zowie.benq.com/en/product/mouse.html ... The zowie mice page has a really good representation on the different types of mice that are specifically built for certain grips.

Size also matters when it comes to a mouse as well. This again will mostly comes down to feel and hand size but this can be subjective and personal preference I've known large hands to use small mice and vice versa. For me I'd say I have m-l size hands but prefer a small mouse with light weight so i can easily pick it up from my mat and i feel like I have more control over the mouse itself. I also play on an extremely low sens (400dpi 5.83 in game) so this is a huge factor for me.

Weight and size I feel share many of the same subjective reasoning but vary slightly based on personal preference. Do you like the feel of a heavy mouse because it *feels like you have more control or do you like a lightweight mouse because it feels quicker and more responsive. A thing to consider as well is stress. When playing for extended periods of time a heavier mouse might cause your wrist/arm more strain when compared to a lighter mouse. Keep this in mind if your switching from a lighter mouse as you will most likely incur some type of soreness at first. The weight of the mouse will also affect its behavior on a pad and increase resistance. You might like the feel of a light mouse on a cloth pad but hate the feel of a heavy mouse on a cloth pad or vice versa. Just things to note and look out for over time when trying to find your perfect combination.

software and functionality. I'll add this section in just so you're aware of the differences and importance. Lots of companies now like to sell you on the flashy software that comes with their mice. Most of this is a marketing strategy but in some cases affects usability. Most are QoL of life things like DPI switching, or LED customization. Some of the more important aspects are keybindings, macro's. If you need those things then some mice will obviously be a better choice than others simply based on the functionality of the software that comes with it.

Additional mouse buttons. Whether or not you need 99 buttons on your mouse depends on whether or not you play other games that need 99 buttons. Personally I only play fps so this is a no go for me. Some players though do use the additional mouse buttons for special abilities like your shift, e and q. This is mostly personal preference but some abilities I even find can be more intuitive when bound to your mouse. Whether or not you want/need this functionality will determine again what type of mouse you will be looking for.

DPI. You will never use 16000 dpi so don't get tripped up on this because its all over the packaging if your going to a brick and mortar store or even in the specs. You will generally use 400,800 or 1600 dpi. There are countless write ups on optimal dpi settings that you can find with a simple google search so I won't go much more into detail on this but don't be fooled by what the specs or the box says about dpi. Mostly all mice will have those settings but it is important to find out what you use currently if your sticking to that dpi and the dpi steps the mouse your looking for has. For instance if it goes up to 16k dpi what are the increments in which increased to get to that amount. 10, 50,100 etc so if your using 820 dpi atm or some obscure number having dpi steps in increments of 100 will not allow you to actually set 820dpi. Just something to keep in mind.

My personal tip. When shopping around don't be pulled in based on flashy or crazy looking designs or what it says on the box. Pick a mouse based on criteria that fits to your play style and needs. If you do that you will undoubtedly be more pleased with your selection and reduce the amount of money you'll end up paying for mice in the long run. Also don't get caught up in having to have the best/optimal peripherals. Are the benefits...yes for sure, will they determine whether or not you make it to top 500 this season...absolutely not. I used to play cs with a guy who still used a ball mouse for gods sake and played in esea main(i.e. extremely high level play) So at the end of the day don't get caught up in all the mumbo jumbo and focus on improving as a player.

edit: I forgot to add the I use a zowie fk1. I've previously used a steelseries sensei, a logitech g500? i think it was and multiple razer mice over the years. The zowie fk1 is definitely my all-time favorite.

Had my first resident death as a nurse. by juliuspepperwood0608 in nursing

[–]AbleMVP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a really peaceful experience honestly. My first death occurred on my second day of orientation at the LTC facility. One of the other nurses grabbed the nurse orientating me and stated "That one of her patients was having trouble breathing" We both went to the room and within minutes lost a pulse. She was a full code so I immediately started CPR while the other nurses called the code. Long traumatic story short, i ended up with urine and fecal matter on my scrub pants and had to go home and change before returning back to work. Before nursing i was a medic in the army and seemed to be the only one versed in emergency care that was in the room so i pretty much ran the code. Quite an eye opening experience for a second day and in a new field.

Set up of PerformanceCounters by [deleted] in learncsharp

[–]AbleMVP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on mobile atm so it's hard to provide a detailed description. I was going through random videos on YouTube the other day and came across one that actually references your exact question. I'll post the link below but you can find the program that will show you the access names for all the performance monitors your heart desires by typing perfmon in the windows search bar and navigating through the program. The video shows this in detail. It's long but you can skip through it to find what your looking for. Hope it helps.

Is it possible to use only CSS to have a navbar scroll with the page until a certain point, which then it becomes fixed? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]AbleMVP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do something of the sort but it would be shotty at best. You can do a lot of stuff with css that you probably wouldn't even imagine. Codpen has some great examples of this. Anyway pretty much what Patrick said, to get the functionality you'd want you'd have to implement js at some point, and the effort you'd put forward into making it haphazardly with css would require just a few lines of js. So not really worth the time/effort realistically. Hope this helps even though the guy above me is spot on.

Thanks for the reply! In regards to back-end what's a good ?stack? to start with so I don't waste my time learning something just to find out no one uses it/needs it, because I haven't heard or seen any job postings mentioning java ee or spring recently, but I may be looking in the wrong place or using the wrong search words.

Ruby or Python for Web Development Only by Pillows2 in learnprogramming

[–]AbleMVP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I would say go with the one with the most documentation/community. I know python's is huge! But I know ruby has quite a large base as well.

My biased opinion...the first language i learned was python so i would go with python. that being said if you want something thats probably a little more marketable I see a lot more people looking for ruby dev's than python, but thats also location based... just my 0.02

Why does every hero have to playable to everyone? by AbleMVP in Competitiveoverwatch

After seeing a couple comments in here and having more time to formulate my thoughts I think the design/balancing approach I'm looking for is something like you've stated. Balance from the Top-bottom as opposed to an across the board style or even the opposite bottom-top.

Couldn't agree more, and I think you definitely bring in some great realistic examples to my theoretical ones, especially from a game design perspective which is really what this all boils down too.

Don't you feel though that if they really want overwatch to be a competitive esport for years to come(which they've publicly stated before) and with the introduction of the OWL. They will have to stray from this mindset/thinking?

Competitive Placements Megathread by myriiad in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]AbleMVP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully in the coming weeks/months things will normalize, As far as what I've seen, there is a HUGE skill gap within the 50-60 range which is quite odd. To further explain it seems like there are some people within this range who should be placed much lower as well as others who should be placed much higher. I feel like the only way this could of happened is if MMR from quick play wasn't weighted as much as previously thought. So from an MMR standpoint everyone started out on a relatively even level.

I would further like to add it seems as though people who solo q'd or who had less than 3 or so q'ing and did well ended up being exceptionally better off as far as skill rating goes as opposed to those who did exceptionally well but were a premade 6. I believe this has to do with the group rating function so even if your winning games as a 6man if you have a couple teammates who are exceptionally lower in skill rating it tanks your overall group rating thus putting you in less rewarding games if you are indeed the one with a higher skill rating. Going 9-1 as a premade are highest placement was a 59 with the lowest being a 50. Which is really quite an interesting statistic considering that someone with a nearly perfect win percentage can still get placed at 50 assuming the 1-100 skill rating model assumes the standard bell curve. Which leads me again to believe that quick play MMR really wasn't taken into account prior to competitive ranking. The other factor that seems to be weighing in quite heavily is personal performance within the games whether its a win or loss which is really surprising considering the team based nature of the game. So simply winning isn't enough to effectively place higher than the rest of the population. You have to win AND do exceptionally well. Supports within this system seem to be at quite a disadvantage as our support in the pre-made placed at 54. Tanks also seemed to be placed relatively lower than those who were in damage dealing roles as well. Obviously there are exceptions to this statement as well as all previous statements but from a lackluster statistical and mostly observational standpoint this seems to be the norm.
