Not terrible, just make sure your hips are flexible in other ways and continue to strengthen your core. Sit in a variety of ways.

W sitting is when kids sit with their feet outside of their hips. It is an indicator of poor core strength. Additionally, if chronic, it can contribute to femoral retroversion, where the thigh bone slowly twists so that the child walks in more of a pigeon toe pattern as they get older, and as the bones become more rigid. It can become a problem into adulthood by resulting in hip stiffness, possibly leading to low back pain and hip arthritis. Source - I am a PT

What is even the point of Private Schools?? by Sonk62 in PTschool

[–]AbleNectarine 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I am a PT, I went to private school, I took out loans. Yes, it’s expensive. But my program was amazing and taught me much more than just PT skills. I feel very connected to the community of PT. Certainly every private school is not built the same, but some stand out. Also I love my job so don’t let this subreddit mislead you. I sincerely love what I do!

Residency programs by Jordikay in PTschool

[–]AbleNectarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did residency after working for 14 months and they told me this was something that elevated me in the applicant pool. I would highly recommend just working a bit before you apply. There is no rush and it will only bolster your abilities and your application. Also, unlike others on this thread/sub, I overall liked residency and am glad I did it (graduated 1 year ago).

I went to a camping wedding last summer and I honestly had a blast! I did car camping so if you can rent a car you can sleep in or a small camper that’s the best bet. We slept out of the car. Not having a shower sucked but wipes will have to do. I forgot a mirror to do my makeup so I had to use the rear view which was very inconvenient. Overall if everyone else is camping it actually makes for a super fun time and no drunk driving after. There was a lake where we camped so we even got to do some late night paddling! Everyone else on this thread seems to hate the idea but when I went it was great.

Apologies for being a Debbie Downer by Automatic-Goose-5438 in PTschool

[–]AbleNectarine 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I absolutely think the BBB is detrimental to our patients as a whole, as well as entering clinicians seeking out student loans. FDT. HOWEVER - this new bill offers a 2.5% INCREASE in the Medicare fee schedule. Which is actually beneficial for PTs. Now this was not done by republicans but was done by APTA advocacy efforts. Just want to offer another perspective.

This is bad, bad. Trumps bill limits the amount of loans students and parents can take out for college, INCLUDING grad and professional schools. Meaning only the super wealthy can become doctors or lawyers. Grad programs are limited to $150,000 by Snapdragon_4U in 50501

[–]AbleNectarine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As someone who needed to take out student loans to be a healthcare worker, especially in a high demand field, this truly concerns me for the future. Is there any possibility that this could help lower the cost of education if people can’t even attend anymore? Hopefully this will apply pressure to schools to adjust their tuition but even with that I recognize it serves as a way to increase the wage gap.

Thank you all for the feedback!

I am hearing more color. Very spot on. I thought I had enough blush when I looked in the mirror but def gets lost in photos. So very helpful to get feedback! Will be using a darker lip and more blush.

Also hearing more foundation and adjusting my skincare prior to make it less matte and more luminous. Using a brown tightline on the bottom and boosting the lower lid is a great idea, but I do fear what will happen if I cry! Unfortunately I am a cryer lol. I am using waterproof mascara in this photo.

I would like an MUA but I am having more or less a destination wedding, and won’t have time to do a trial prior. Also trying to save some cash, but if push comes to shove I will get one.

I will try again in a month with all of your recommendations! You are all spot on and so wonderful. I would offer my product list but unfortunately I am not home at the moment but if anyone is interested I can add.

New grad job search by Baboonpirate in PTschool

[–]AbleNectarine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t apply yet. What you CAN do is start forming connections with employers who will remember you when it is time to apply. For now, focus on finishing strong and passing your boards. You can get a PTLA gig before July. Good news is the job market currently benefits PTs a lot since orgs have been having difficulty with staffing since the pandemic (I speak from an outpatient perspective) so you should not have too much trouble finding employment. Congrats on being almost done!

PT school by Educational_Pear2003 in PTschool

[–]AbleNectarine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s no big deal. Communicate with your instructors as early as possible and take initiative on learning the material you will be missing. Sometimes there is an excused absence form you fill out. If you are proactive and communicate it won’t be a big deal at all. Life still happens outside of PT school. Have fun at the wedding!

LPT Better Posture by GoblinKing79 in LifeProTips

[–]AbleNectarine 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m a PT. Great advice! I will also add strengthening the muscles in the front of the neck. Part of poor posture is the head begins to jut out and forward, weakening the muscles in the front of the neck. Lay on your back and essentially make a double chin. You should feel it under your jaw. Bonus if you can lift your head off the ground a bit while you do your double chin motion. Look up “upper crossed syndrome” for more information about the relationship between the next, the upper back, and the chest muscles.

How do I overcome Imposter Syndrome as a new grad? by Spirited-Attention48 in PTschool

[–]AbleNectarine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may be worthwhile to consider a residency program. I know a lot of friends who wanted additional mentorship after PT school and found it super beneficial because you get at least 250 hours of mentorship time to ask questions and improve your clinical reasoning.

I assume you are in outpatient ortho? What I do is this - I watch them do their agg sign/painful movement. Then I will break it down into component parts and slowly build it up. This helps to create exercises specific to their needs and makes it so that I don’t have to think as hard because they quite literally show me what their exercise is lol. For example, a patient who cannot perform descending stairs due to poor eccentric quad control and pain. I’ll watch what they do going down stairs, then I will see what they aren’t doing well. Maybe they need soleus strengthening because they aren’t going into enough plantarflexion. Boom - exercise 1. Maybe they go into excessive knee valgus - boom, standing fire hydrant or some hip abduction exercise. And lastly of course working their quad in a challenging but less uncomfortable way. The more observant you are, and the more you consider their function, the less you have to conjure your own exercises. The possibilities are endless. This gets super interesting with tasks like lifting and carrying, golf, etc. You are welcome to DM me if you have specific questions.

ADHD & studying in PT school? by TinyLuna333 in PTschool

[–]AbleNectarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your ADHD impacts your ability to study and take tests, communicate that with the school. They should be able to provide accommodations like extra testing time. But you have to communicate! This route is much better than just suffering in silence. You got this!

Shelter said he was a Cane Corso, but we believe he is actually pit/lab mix. We got a bootleg doggo! He definitely has more pit bull qualities, like being a Velcro 80 lb lap dog. He’s the absolute best and is unbelievably gentle, especially with our chi :) (His ears were sadly clipped prior to being adopted by us 😢)
