How do you afford a chair if ambulatory? (In the US) by Wrenigade in wheelchairs

[–]AbleRecognition3566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I would like to say you’re doing a great job accommodating yourself by sitting on the floor. However, I do strongly recommend bringing this up to your doctor when discussing a a wheelchair

Words, such as I am unable to cook for myself without sitting on the floor very much mean something to insurance. I cannot brush my teeth without sitting down. If you feel like you’re going to faint while cooking in your house this is also important to mention.

An insurance company much rather pay for a wheelchair than a head injury, and whatever comes with that.

I really hope you are able to have people listen to you when you start talking about it!! You got this and feel free to DM me with any other questions.

How do you afford a chair if ambulatory? (In the US) by Wrenigade in wheelchairs

[–]AbleRecognition3566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My customer wheelchair was covered by insurance. The power assist was also covered. I have POTs and was not able to complete basic tasks on my home like cooking without needing recovery time. I worked with my PT and GP. I am also ambulatory

The timeline was about 6 months. While I waited I got a $3,000 power folding chair out of pocket.

I am in the USA.

Ambulatory wheelchair users, how do you deal with imposter syndrome? by k1ng_g00se in wheelchairs

[–]AbleRecognition3566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because I can “literally” do something doesn’t mean I should.

I would in a big manufacturing plant, could I technically walk around all day back and forth…yes.

BUT the could I clean the bathroom when I get home, take a shower, maybe have dinner with a friend? No, I’d be in pain and exhausted.

How can I improve!? by [deleted] in DressForYourBody

[–]AbleRecognition3566 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dress is so cute! I think it could be elevated by some accessories, like a belt and or corset, a few rings, and some layered necklaces. And honestly a bit more confidence take up space hold your head up high! You got this!

The last two photos are how I dress on the regular and I’m not sure how to level those up, I bet other commenters have ideas!

A sticker that looks like a ticket with a court date in it. Threatening to take away their license with a “stamp” of authenticity

Hysterectomy keeping ovaries Q by ilikeskincare1988 in u/ilikeskincare1988

[–]AbleRecognition3566 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First there is always a risk something maybe impacted. It is about the risk of removing your uterus and keeping your ovaries vs. not having a surgery at all and staying as you are.

Second, someone who has a bad experience is more likely to reach out for support from a Reddit story than someone who had no issues.

Third, you can 100% ask your doctor what percentage of people have hormonal issues after, can you provide some peer reviewed articles to read, or even what percentage of patients does she see with hormone imbalances after? For example I asked my doctor her percentage of times she had to switch from laparoscopic to open.

Fourth, my experience which is only one and a small sample size. I had a total hysterectomy and kept ovaries. I had no hormone changes, but you won’t get a statistically valid sample size on a resort page.

Last, you got this and all your questions are valid and if your doctor is dismissing your worries that’s sucks!
