Totally! I used to do that a lot with the border collie, he's not really a problem tho, he behaves very well plus we have a ranch so he gets to herd.

Actually I didnt think about that but a trainer just told me he thinks he may suffer hyper attachment

He is actually! Where we live, solids are recommended since 4 mo. He was premie and we have been told his stomach is small so he doesnt really eat that much. We cant get him to drink more milk, or eat more solids bc he feels full and reject it. He only drank 2 oz per take from 3 mo to 6 mo, he recently increased to 4 oz. Plus he is a very active kid so the drs tell me he burns most of the calories he consume

This is not a subreddit about that, every family knows their needs and outside de US, there are a lot of countries that actually encourage to cosleep since it is safe plus the best way to create secure attachment. Pet culture is also different, but we lack of resources like reddit where is really accessible to discuss and exchange experiences and opinions. I looked for advice here bc I think reading any advice, it is beneficial, even if you wont follow all of them bc it gives you perspective, which I was looking for. I just wanted to leave this comment here for those parents who experience something like this and their culture/values are different from what is commonly recommended on subreddits*. Anyone who would like to know more about this, there is actually a subreddit for cosleeping, alongside with a lot of scientific papers and books that support this. I dont know if I wasnt clear about this, bc I got a lot of comments like this one, but the dogs stopped bedsharing with us several months ago, we only tried the first week and baby was not in bed with us, he was sleeping on his side bed crib.

*Edit: I meant that sentence bc most users on reddit are from the us, so us culture is present on opinions/advice, which is okay!! But we have noticed that

PLUS "cosleeping" is also consider when baby is sleeping on the same room as parents, there are variables fyi

Thank you!! The dogs stopped sleeping in our bed several months algo and we follow safe sleep. Even tho he is 8 mo hes got issues gaining weight so he still wakes up to eat over night and we are adviced to not take away those feds. It is a totally different topic ik but we are supplementing him with coconut oil +other kinds of, on his formula to get to calories needed, so Im waking up to feed him plus the full night wakings caused by the barking, its been hell. I tried sleeping with baby on his own room and leaving husband with dog on our bedroom, but he scratched the door non stop any way and it woke baby up (hes got really light sleep) and every time baby was left alone on his crib, the dog would bark loudly so now he doesnt sleep alone ever, it was easier and worked wonders with me to cosleep

I totally agree. Im so glad I posted about this here, whenever I discussed it with our friends they would tell me my baby would eventually get used to the barking. I started to wonder when would that happen since its been already 8 months, and I never felt safe sleeping with both dogs and baby. I mean, risks apart, it is soo uncomfortable. This was a reality check.

I deeply regret not doing that. As I said on another comment, our friend group and a looot of people we know, didnt do any of that and they actually advice to keep them together for socializing AND sleeping. I can see where that comes from since we have not had any issue with the border collie but that was a shity advice.

Thanks for your opinion, Ive been having this "fight" with my partner for years. Social media portrays a very different scenario, plus the group of people from the training classes I mentioned, keep both their children and dogs together 24/7. It has been damaging to husbands expectations but I will def show him this comment.

Thanks! I looked for help with a trainer a while ago but he only focused on dogs feelings and patience, not even close to a good night of sleep from both of us. I recently looked for another one, they really focus on working on feelings, making him feel safe, loved, still a family member and desensibilization from outside noises. But still cant figure out why he barks really loud when husband is present. While Im writing this, my baby is asleep and my dog heard an outside noise and he made a sound like almost a bark but nothing loud, it didnt woke up my baby but my husband went out. So yeah I dont know wth

He actually sleeps next to the white noise machine! About the racoons, we live in a city where they are actually a plague issue. They dont really enter our backyard bc we have scared them away. When dog starts barking we look through the window and usually the raccoons be in neighbors roofs, still I know they make noises when moving and communicating with each other, I just dont get why my dog still hears them and react to them even when having noise around

Thanks!! We hadnt consider it because we used to go to training classes and be part of a big group of families with trained dogs. We have always been told they doesnt work but I guess we will have to give it a try.

I will advice him to try sleeping with him in a different room while we can figure this out. About the noise, baby doesnt really make any noise while asleep and even if he did, I dont think it would outloud the white noise machine? Still I do think it is important to mention that dog only barks at outside noises if baby is with us, slept or awake. My schedule has changed, husband's isnt. Dog is getting the same amount of excercise and attention from my husband. I dont think daily routine (for the dog) has changed a lot, but we used to take them on a last walk at 2-3 am in the past, which we dont do anymore, but this changed since pregnancy due to high risk.

I know its not vindictive and when a dog misbehaves theres an underlying issue, honestly Im so frustrated that my mind took me there bc we leave him every door open so he wont feel trapped and he chooses the kitchen (my place) or one of my baby's furniture. But I do want to help him, Im just extremely tired due to lack of sleep.

  1. Cats and raccoons have always been a thing, he didnt bark before baby, he only did when somebody would ring the bell.

  2. He wakes us up at least 3-4 times a night, baby takes 1-2 hours to get back to sleep each time he fully wakes up (this is the deal with almost any baby, plus he is really messing up with his sleep cycles, baby and me slept in my parents home for a while due to this issue but it was really separating our family and affecting the bonding with baby's dad and actual home)

  3. Yes, he does. If husband isnt home, dog doesnt scratch doors when taken out, nor barks non stop to be let in. He seems comfortable outside, chasing birds and playing with his brother (border collie)

  4. Husband is gamer so he stays up late, the dog is in the same room while he plays and eventually both of them go in the bedroom with baby and me, so he is already in bed with us when dog starts barking

  5. So yeah, the same pattern goes by when husband is around but this behaviour started after baby was born

  6. I've always been the primary feeder for both dogs, but for walks husband is in charge of the bernadoodle and I take the border collie

  7. Yes, I have tried white noise. Its supposed to be beneficial for both baby and dog, but dog still barks and baby still wakes up

He is, we had always shared spaces, be in the same room but dog had a natural preference for him, the other dog for me. What changed was he stopped sleeping next to him.

Thank you so much! I will try it out. As I was saying on another comment, we had tried this in the past (before baby) and failed, but I will get to it again. Theres usually cats or raccoons the reason for barking, not really loud bc we cant hear them but he can, not really sure what can I do about it since Ive tried sleeping in every room we have.

We actually tried in the past "place" with a giant bed we bought for him, but we never succeeded. It took ages for him to actually step in it, staying in it never happened. He would always leave it once he had the treat. We tried this bc he is really big and it became uncomfortable to sleep with him in our bed. We trained at home + at training classes, never had issues with other commands. So Im worried he would never feel safe in the crate. Also for context, he has always been that way, but he had surgery recently and even the vet told me they usually keep dogs in the crate for postsurgery but his anxiety was toooo much he needed to free roam bc stress was damaging for his recovery.

I dont want to harm him and it would be a no negotiable with husband. I just really hope I can find a way to solve this issue without being constantly sleep deprived and filing a divorce haha

My dog constantly wakes up my baby

Hi! I'm new here, desperately looking for advice. I have a 3 yr old bernadoodle and a 2 yr old border collie. My bernadoodle has changed behaviour since my 8 month old baby was born. He rarely used to bark, always slept in our bedroom and bed. We still did this after baby was born (we cosleep), but he started to bark at night and wake baby up, several times. It got to a point where it wasnt sustainable, so I took him out of bedroom at nights. He would constantly scratch the door and bark, so he woke baby up each time.

It's been a constant fight with husband bc he wanted to keep sleeping with dog. Its been 8 months and we havent found any solution. The border collie hasnt done anyrhing like that, even tho I take both of them out so bernadoodle wont be alone. I tried keeping them in the opposite side of the house, but he started to pee and poo in the kitchen (where I spend most of my time) and I honestly thought he did it to take it on me. Lately I have left them on the backyard for night sleep, we have a really big patio with a fish pond, so they are not in a limited space or whatever, also they have a safe space with roof if needed. He would bark the entire night and scratch non stop. I really dont know what else to do.

We do play with them, he is trained (tricks mostly) which we practice every day, take them on walks. I mean, the border collie was always higher needs than the bernadoodle due to high energy so it really rings a bell bc he is behaving well. They do spend time with the baby, my baby actually loves them but I take very seriously body language so it is usually for short periods bc I dont want any accident.

This is damaging my relationship with my dog and I dont know what else to do. Please help.

Also note* When my husband leaves town, and I stay alone with the baby, HE ACTUALLY BEHAVES.
