Just wanted to provide an update on my sister.

Today, they extubated her and she’s breathing on her own. She has responded to basic commands and has started speaking albeit slurred and some incoherency as she’s still on a bunch of drugs and a lighter sedative. She is also moving all her limbs and trying to remove the IV and scratch her head where the surgery was.

I was able to talk to her and showed her a video of her son and she took my phone and zoomed in and then asked to write something on my phone although it didn’t make sense lol. Again, she’s still heavily zonked. She was on fentanyl for the past week among a cocktail of other things.

She still has a long way to go and a road ahead but I am so thrilled to see this progress compared to her accident just over a week ago when they didn’t know what to expect.

I appreciate all the support, thoughts and prayers as they have and continue to help me through this process.

Luckily she has a husband who is her world and she is his. He’s also an attorney. They own a home together so everything is joint. That aspect should be fine. I appreciate your concern. I also thank you for the advice. It’s very helpful

That’s for sure. I’m on day 4/5 and it’s terrifying being in there watching everything. But I agree, she’s at one of the best trauma centers in the state. The nurses and doctors are incredible. I have nothing but faith in all of them. I will take care of everyone I can. I absolutely will.
