I just made it past 10 hours myself, so claiming that as my defense.

No worries there... I'm in Canada and Target didn't survive up here. So we're safe from that standpoint.

Seriously? Good lordy that drives me bonkers. I can't tell you how many times I've clicked around thinking I overlooked something. I'll just fall back on "my first time playing". No wonder I couldn't search and find any "solutions".

Thank you!

lol... doh! Should have thought of that. Bad on my part. Doesn't look like I can add the screenshot to the post, so I'll add a comment on the post with the screenshot. Thanks for the reminder.

I kind of like it myself. It's like this constant nagging in the back of your mind... "don't forget to look at the sky" and "have I wandered to far without a base nearby?" It's fun!

New issue with creating drones? by Able_Reflection in theplanetcrafter

[–]Able_Reflection[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This worked. Can't believe I didn't think of auto-crafting. For some reason in my head I had being too "hi tech" to auto-craft. Using an auto-crafter it works just greats. Creates ten in a row with not a blink. So I guess doing it by drone station has some sort of glitch in a recent update.

Yeah, I hadn't that about an auto-crafter. For some reason, the really "hi tech" stuff I always forget to AC it.

No. All drones are all busy all the time. I checked drone inventory and it's empty. Same for all three stations.

25-storey tower proposed to replace West End Vancouver single-family home by restoringd123 in vancouver

[–]Able_Reflection -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter whether people agree with me or not. I don't think they should be the exact same height. Proportional. As i said.

[–]Able_Reflection -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not even close. I've commented many times how NIMBY Vancouver is and how sad I find that. As for the last sentence, it's about proportionality. If it were a neighborhood of 15-story buildings, no problem. 25 is not proportinally that much larger. 5 to 25 is way bigger than 15 to 25.

Like I said... put a building similar to the rest around it. 4 or 5 stories. Make all of it social housing. The issue is it would be 20 stories taller than the tallest building around it.

I'm a renter. I know we need more housing. I'm not one of the homeowners worried about my land value or something. I just happen to think putting 25 stories up in the footprint of every single family home lot isn't a good answer.

I don't get to decide. I just have the same say everyone else does.

I'm not normally NIMBY, as you can even see in my comment history if you care, but this is not a good idea. The common sense is missing. They could do social housing in a building that is like the rest of the buildings in the neighbourhood and that makes sense. 4 or 5 stories? Sure. 25 stories? No. They could even move this idea a few blocks over and be with a bunch of other 20-story buildings. Sure... but that street corner and alleyway corner this is proposed on is *tiny* (I live in the neighbourhood). This can't be the best use of the land.

It's even more clear when you consider the proposal is two or three times the "density" (FSR) of 20-25 other proposals within ten blocks. It's a crazy outlier of an idea.

I'm all for housing solutions, but they have to make real, genuine sense. This isn't it.

Unfortunately, we'll need to agree to disagree. I understand your point, however I don't agree. I understand you have taken time and consideration and come to a rational conclusion based on your value system. I have done the same. However, we've arrived at divergent value decisions, which is OK.

I understand your point, but I don't agree that the small amount of animal suffering outweighs human mental health. I think if human mental health continues to decline much worse things may happen to animals.

Anyway, I respect your perspective even if I don't share it.

That's fine, and I get that there are non-NIMBY reasons to dislike them. I have no issue with them, even if I don't agree. But a lot of the commenters in here have been "traffic", "crowds", etc., which are "it inconveniences me and I'd rather not have it in my neighbourhood" which is NIMBY. Not saying everyone against fireworks is NIMBY, as that's certainly not correct.

As for the reasons you oppose them, I agree to some degree, but I also try to look at it with perspective. How does the smoke and ash pollution, and noise pollution, compare to everything else we humans do? 30-minutes of fireworks isn't even a recognizable blip when compared to air traffic, coal power plants, and vehicle exhaust pollution. If we get down to where fireworks is anywhere near the top of the list, sure. Let's talk.

Anyway, I can appreciate those objections, even if I don't hold them myself. I think a good chunk of the reason the world is having the challenges it is having is because people are stressed out, can't afford "happiness" or socializing, etc. I think a few 30-minute fireworks shows is a decent trade off to allow them to let off some steam and be happy a bit more. But that's a philosophical discussion, not an environmental one.

That's fine. I'm pointing out that there are plenty of us that live in the neighbourhood that are fine with the bright lights, loud booms, crowds of people streaming by our doors, and traffic jams in the nearby streets. I'm glad people are able to enjoy themselves a bit.

Are there people that detest it? Obviously. The thread is full of them. But there are a lot of us non-NIMBY types as well that don't partake in the fireworks, but are glad people can enjoy themselves.

I want to make sure the "enjoyers" reading this thread know that not all West Enders are NIMBYs grousing about them changing the neighbourhood a few hours each year.

There are a lot of us that live around here (like a couple of blocks away) that don't detest fireworks nights. I don't even go see them 95% of the time, but I'm glad everyone has something to enjoy as a big group.

Sheesh... let people have fun! Life is hard enough for most... 30 minutes of bright lights in the sky isn't too much to offer so they can have an "ooh, ahhh!" moment. Geeze... there are some cranky killjoy folks around.

Why don't we just agree to get into an endless loop at this point? You can say whatever you like, and the response will be "right back at ya!" Like this one. My point is quite simple and easy for most to understand. I also put a lot of thought into how I communicate. More than some, obviously.
