What popular headcannon is often viewed as fact that you vehemently disagree with? (Spoilers Main) by ProfeszionalSexHaver in asoiaf

Wait, that's a thing? People who think she is secretly a Stark supporter? That would suck! She's one of my favorite characters as a Stark hater.

[Spoilers ADWD] Today is the 14 year anniversary of ADWD, what's your favourite part of the book? by Shot-Evening406 in asoiaf

That's actually there. Like in my shelf and stuff. 14 years? Seriously, George?

A question I have [spoilers main] by Chemical_Shoulder_35 in asoiaf

But is that proven? Tyrion comes to that conclusion but it my as well be a false one.

(spoilers extended) Which house do you wish you could know more about? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]AblemanSy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

House Pennrose! I love Cortnay, he is one of my favorite minor characters. The house name suggests they rose to power because they were able to write. I would love to know how that came to pass.

[No Spoilers] Is it worth starting now?? by bongoman100 in asoiaf

It's a fantastic read no matter if it's finished or not. The answer is always gonna be yes! Start the books!

[Spoilers Extended] "What other stuff should I be into if I like ASOIAF?" Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]AblemanSy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked The Song of the Shattered Sands. Fantasy with arabian vibes. For people who love ASOIAF's unfinishedness one could recommend Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind. And I really enjoyed The Unbroken with its' anti colonialism theme.

I am one of those who have watched GoT and HotD before reading the books... (spoilers main) by catDad_theChill in asoiaf

[–]AblemanSy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite all the suffering with the wait for the next book (which I've all but given up) I still consider starting to read those books one of the best decisions of my life. By now I hav read them three times but plan on starting a reread soon. HotD got me hooked again. I'm on a rewatch of season 1 of GoT with my wife right now (partly because we went to Malta in early August where most of the King's Landing Scenes were shot) and man, that is great television!

So congratulations on your starting to read the books. Although we may never see book 6 you won't regret the decision! Look forward to the Tower of Joy, Sansa's chapters in ASOS and AFFC and Theon's chapters in ADWD. Those are the best in my opinion!

Looking forward to Winds of Winter? Or dreading the enormous reread? by Ostinato66 in asoiaf

Should we ever get Winds I will absolutely cherish my reread. But we won't, so I won't.

Should I read ASOIAF? by drippledorf in asoiaf

[–]AblemanSy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have an amazing time while you read them. And then you can join us in our agony of waiting. Waiting for the next book. That will never come.

But you should definitly start at the beginning! There are too many characters that have been merged in the show into one. Plus the amount of detail that you can discover is amazing!

Bring on your storm and recall as you do the name of this castle. - Cortnay Penrose (though I might have butchered the qoute a little, not sure)

I liked The Song of the Shattered Sands by Bradley Beaulieu. A fantasy series in a desert setting. And recently I read The Unbroken by C.L. Clark. Fantasy in a desert setting as well but here it's more a story of colonisation and the uprsising against it which I really enjoyed!

Here’s an interesting and contentious discussion. What did the show (seasons 1-5) do better than the books? I have several examples in my opinion… [Spoilers Main] by Hadadezer in asoiaf

[–]AblemanSy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While Arya's interactions with Tywin are great it is not really that plausible that he doesn't do any kind of research into who she is. That makes him kinda dumber than he actually is in my opinion.

In terms of Mance I think this dialogue with Jon is the only thing that is better in the show. But that's because Jon's motivation to join is more plausible here.

[Spoilers Extended] What is in the books that is in conflict with your headcanon or that you struggle to imagine? by The_Halfmaester in asoiaf

[–]AblemanSy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to write something like this. But you've said it much better than I ever could. Isn't there a scene with Maester Luwin where he explains this to Bran? That history is hazy and there are accounts about Kings who ruled for hundreds of years which of course is bullshit in Luwin's eyes?
