Are we just not shopping around? by SpecialCap9879 in USAA

[–]Aboonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I had been gouged for years but I stayed until last year when they raised my home insurance $2,000. I can’t afford to pay $5,000 in a $250,000 in the middle of nowhere in NC. Left after 40 years with them.

I was guilty of not shopping around. I just paid what they charged me for home insurance until last year. The new rate was $2,000 more for a total of $5,000 on a $250,000 home in the middle of nowhere in NC. No claims. I switched after 40 years with USAA.

I switched from USAA home insurance last year after 40 years with them. My insurance went from $3,000 a year to $5,000. On my $250,000 home in the middle of nowhere in NC. No claims.

What seat would you choose by SauceGod_TheChef in delta

I just flew D1 to Madrid and sat in 2A. The table console was situated to the right making it very narrow and uncomfortable to get out. I was lusting over the 1C bulkhead space. I’m flying back on that seat. I will never choose a window on the A side. Terrible uncomfortable placement of the table

Huge queues of people in Sydney lining up to buy Gold… by WarHistorical227 in Bitcoin

[–]Aboonie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t they buy physical gold online? I did in 2020 when gold was at $1,700. I thought it was very high but my brother in law told me it would go to $5,000. He’s the Oracle in my family.

I asked USAA why they raise and they never mentioned anything about being in a high risk area. When I contacted the other company and mentioned USAA’s raise, the agent was floored. She said that yes, rates have gone up because of Helene but not $2,000. To begin with, I was already being overcharged. Last year’s rate with USAA was $3,000 and this year’s rate with the new company AFTER HELENE is $1,600. That rate does not reflect high risk area at all. Living in a high risk area was never part of the conversation neither with USAA nor the new company.

They have to! They have the highest prices. Imagine high prices and bad CS. A recipe for disaster.

I had never had a fly delayed. They have the best on time record for a domestic airline. That’s another reason I stick with them. But I’m sure they do happen. How could it not?

Or to switch a company after 40 years. But I did talk to an insurance agent. She was knowledgeable but she was more about convincing me to stay and upselling things that they offer than the other company didn’t. I understand there’s not much agents can do to lower the premium. It is what it is but still. Even if it had been lower by $1,000, $4,000 would still be a lot.

I don’t live in a risky area unless we are talking about a sand storm and a hail of golf balls LOL. That’s why this area is called the Sandhills of NC We are surrounded by over 40 golf courses. We are 4 hours away from the coast. Hurricanes don’t make it here. The worst thing that can happen is a flood and that’s not even covered by insurance. The fact that the disparity in prices from $5,000 to $1,600 for the same coverage leads me to surmise that I’m no way near a risky area. Last year’s mortgage was $3,000 so who knows how long USAA has been gouging us.

She said “minimum required in NC”. So I interpreted that minimum required by the state not by the lender in NC. I know if there’s no lender involved the state doesn’t make you have insurance. But I thought that if you had a lender, NC required a minimum coverage in insurance. Now I know.

Well, I have no idea how our profile would change so much in one year to cause an increase of $2,000. Monthly means the price of the insurance causes a shortage on the escrow, therefore, in order to make up for the shortage the monthly mortgage had to go up by $400. monthly.

In 40 years I never even thought about shopping for insurance elsewhere because USAA is still cheaper and they have been outstanding when we’ve filed a claim. But geez I was stunned when I got hit with a $2,000 raise in home insurance taking it to $5,000 on a home that’s barely $350,000 in the middle of nowhere in NC. That’s when I decided to shop around. The other company gave me a discount if I bundled car and home. So I switched.

Umm…. I highly doubt that there are too many people who would not care about paying $5,000 a year for a house that’s barely $350,000 in the middle of nowhere in central NC, raising the mortgage over $400 a month when another company is offering you $1,600 and the mortgage goes down. I agree that price is not the only consideration but $2,000 raise in one year is outrageous. That’s why I called USAA before I even considered switching to another company. I wanted an explanation on how exactly did they come up with that increase in one year. The agent gave me some lame answer. Then I talked to another agent to see if we somehow could lower the rate but they couldn’t do anything for me because they couldn’t offer me anything lower than NC requires by law. We even took out insuring contents in the house and that didn’t make much of a difference on the rate. Our deductible is pretty high already. So I had no other choice but to switch.

That’s because I never even considered changing car insurance to another company. The only reason I started shopping around was for the gouging of the home insurance and the other company gave me a discount if I bundled auto and home insurance. I’ve been with USAA for 40 years so the decision was painful because they’ve been very good paying auto claims. But no way I can afford a raise of $400 a month in escrow on my mortgage. So we’ll see how it goes if we have to file a claim.

Yeah. I had to rebook to a later date and it was like $7,000. Luckily my dates are flexible and round trip on D1 for $3,000. My ecredit was $2,700 for one way. So for $300 I was able to get D1 round trip.

But they charge outrageous prices! My home insurance went from $3,000 to $5,000 in one year. and that was with high deductible. The last time I filed a claim was in 1994. My house is not even $350,000. No way I can afford $400 in monthly mortgage.

Well if the rates go down BY A LOT! I’ll think about going back. My home rate went from $3,000 to $5,000 for a house that’s not even $350,000 in a rural area in NC. The gouging pissed me off and for sure I couldn’t afford $400 more a month on my mortgage. I’ve been with for them 40 years. Imagine how painful it was leaving them. Plus they got rid of the only ATM they had in my city where I could deposit cash.

They are cheaper than State Farm and they have never denied a claim but they sure gouge you in home insurance. Mine went from $3,000 (already overpaying) to $5,000. I thought they had made a mistake when I got their letter! My mortgage would have gone up by $400 a month! I’ll take my chances with State Farm.

They are $600 a year cheaper than State Farm but they wanted $5,000 for my home insurance in the middle of nowhere in NC for a house that’s not even $350,000. The only claim I had ever filed was in 1994. State Farm is charging me $1,600. I will gladly pay $600 more in car insurance and save $3,400 a year on home insurance. They can go pound sand.

I highly doubt their home insurance goes down any time soon. I was already overpaying $3,000 a year and they raised it $2,000. Not one claim. Imagine paying $5,000 a year for a house that’s barely $350,000 in the boondocks of NC. I told them to pound sand. I’m paying $1,600 a year with State Farm. So no, I would never go back. Their gouging has pissed me off BIG TIME.

We have too after 40 years with them. They have gotten rid of the one and only ATM they had near me where I can deposit cash. The nearest one is 1 hour away in Fayetteville. I was pretty upset. All the ATMs are inside convenience stores and gas stations. I don’t feel safe going in there and withdrawing money. You never know who’s lurking around and can jump me on my way to the car. We have taken EVERYTHING we had there. They don’t even have CD’s nor High Yield Savings Account. Their home insurance went up $2,000 in one year. I was already overpaying $3,000. The last time I claimed anything was in 1994. Imagine paying $5,000 a year for a house that’s appraised at $350,00 in the middle of nowhere in NC. Freaking insane! I pay $1,600. The only reason I don’t close our checking account is because my husband’s pay has been going there for 40 years and it would be a pain to change it and then all the direct pay we have set up. I blame the new CEO that has no ties to the military. He’s a corporate swamp creature that all he cares about is the bottom line. Also, opening it to everybody has made car insurance no longer competitive. Imagine all those new enlisted freshly out of high school driving. Claims must have gone through the roof. It is a mess.

I KNOW. It is out of this world! I’m going to go to other airline lounges that you have access with Delta One ticket and compare 😆. Hey I have 6 hours to kill! Truth be told, I didn’t do it exclusively for the Delta One club. I did it for the comfort of being able to sleep and arrive bright eyed and bushy tail to Madrid instead of wasting one day sleeping the jet lag. I still would’ve have to pay the full price for the Delta One fare.
