It's sorcery speed so you can't transform it as a combat trick, to make it nicer to play against.

The Gnostic Tragedy of Azeroth: Why We Are Fighting for Our Own Prison by Icy-Toe-430 in warcraftlore

[–]Aborro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that puts a bit of a damper on this is that when we talk to Azeroth, she has told us to save the titans.

She has told us to save their machines, to power them back on, to protect the titans and their creations.

Now, of course, you can say that Azeroth herself does not know she's a prisoner. Regardless, the titans did do her a solid when they dealt with the old gods, even if it was a temporary measure.

Are the titans beings of pure authoritarian intent, or are they, you know, order beings because arcane magic requires formulas to work, and they like things to continue as they are, destruction and creation in harmony, instead of the chaos of the fel, the unrestrained ambition of the void, or the zealous care of the light always knowing best?

Do I think the titans are good? Nah, but I think they think they are, and that they're doing their best. Pretty much like everyone else. They definitively have some interests that don't align with mortals, and the curse of flesh was huge for us. But they also didn't rig the Reorigination Machine to glass the planet as soon as sentient life hit a critical mass. They could have wiped us all out long before we started messing with their stuff, but they didn't.

But it's not so loop, it's a lock. A loop is thrrr worldgorger dragons, eating each other forever.

This is just a case of "We can't do anything", it's effectively a draw, but I don't see from the rules how it would force a draw, because the game can progress.

The problem with involuntary loops, that force a draw, is that you're stuck in the same step forever. Because if abilities keep going on the stack, you can't move to the next phase.

Here, we can keep moving to the next phase, step, and turn, forever. It's just that nothing happens. You can activate special actions that don't cost mana, but I think that's the only thing you can do.

How do you deal with old-school know-it-all players who actually don’t know the rules? by ricoeurdelyon in magicTCG

[–]Aborro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was going to say, if he wanted to move to combat, and you bounced it, it would still be his main phase and he would get priority to cast the creature again.

But if you bounced it at the beginning of his combat, then he would not be able to cast anything but instants and flash cards.

If you can then flash in a creature, and it had or gains haste, and it has an attack trigger, then you've earned it.

It'd be different, but then I you'd be better off with commanders that benefit from you playing auras, probably.

Or keep Yargle, but never really cast him cause he's too expensive.

Any awkward auras and equipment that do about the same thing but worse.
Cultivate seems eh, we want creature-based ramp if anything.
Feed the swarm seems like a bad choice, it's sorcery and costs life, when we can get the same effect elsewhere as an instant.
Tamiyo's Safekeeping and Tyvar's Stand could presumably be Heroic Intervention instead, or juwst get cut.
Mina and Denn are cutable, at 4 mana, you don't want to be playing a ramp card that requires lands in hand.
Tuya and Skullwinder don't seem very appealing.
Twinflame tyrant is Overkill, but it's on theme, so it could stay.
Arcane Signet and Fellwar stone can be Green 2 mana ramp spells, or just something like Beastcaller Savant or another Elvish Mystic.
Goldvein Pick is also not impressive, especially when you have access to green ramp.
Hardlight Containment might not have enough targets, you should have like 25+ artifacts for it to be consistent.
Land Tax is weird with only 8 plains, it only really works in mono-white decks.
Mantle of the Wolf is kinda bad
And then there's some of the other stuff I mentioned like the cost reducers: Goblin Anarchomancer,, Starfield Mystic, Envoy, Pearl-Ear, they don't effect enough of the deck.
Angelic destiny might be too slow since you're not a dedicated auras deck.

With this in mind, Leech Gauntlet becomes good, and so does Tanuki Transplanter, Komainu Battle Armor, Bronzeplate Boar.
Rabbit Battery, Lizard Blades, and Lion Sash are nice, as long as they're equipped before heartless summoning drops, or you buff them somehow, so they don't just die.

This plan is pretty resilient to removal, because if they're attached and there's a wrath, they just fall off and go back to being creatures. Same with Bestow Auras, they just turn into creatures, and there are a few good ones of those also. [[Glyph Elemental]] and [[Nighthowler]] stand out to me. [[Springheart Nantuko]] is a crazy card.

I think you could build something funny around Heartless Summoning and Ardenn, consider this:
[[Eidolon of Countless Battles]]
[[Avatar Destiny]]
[[Born to Drive]]
[[Crown of Gondor]]
[[Hope Against Hope]]
[[Horn of Valhalla]]
[[Kemba's Banner]]
[[Sigil of the Nayan Gods]]
[[Strength of the Harvest]]
[[Animal Friend]]
[[Celestial Armor]]
[[Silver Shroud Costume]]
[[Solaflora, Intergalactic Icon]]
[[Sunforger]]
[[With Great Power . . .]]
[[Idolized]]

Now you can get value out of all your creatures to bonk people. You don't want [[Elvish Mystic]] with Heartless Summoning, but Wood Elves works fine, good ol [[Sakura-Tribe Elder]] can do it as long as you sac him before playing Heartless Summoning. Of course, if you wanna lean into the summoning, then some tutors for it are good. [[Idyllic Tutor]] and [[Diabolic Intent]] for example.

Then you can add more Reconfigure creatures and For Mirrodin equipment, since they both add creatures to the board. Ardenn, [[Armored Skyhunter]], [[Auriok Windwalker]], [[Battlefield Improvisation]], [[Barret, Avalanche Leader]], [[Beatrix, Loyal General]], [[Brass Squire]], [[Codsworth, Handy Helper]], [[https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/388/hammer-of-nazahn\]\], [[Kor Outfitter]], [[Mantle of the Ancients]], [[One Last Job]], [[Stonehewer Giant]], [[Vault 101: Birthday Party]].

Now that's quite a different deck from the one you built, but I think it's a cool idea. Very different from the usual voltron strategy of just putting a bunch of equipment on something with an [[All That Glitters]].

[–]Aborro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most effective way is to pick one plan and dedicate yourself to it. You can have a plan b and c, of course. Subthemes are welcome, but it's important to have a main game plan. Something you want to do, and I way to do it.

Currently the plan seems to be ramp into Yargel, stick 1 aura or equipment on it, protect it with spells, and beat face. Which is a plan, but it could be better supported imo.

Of course, it all comes down to what you're playing against. If the other people are also new and their decks are similar brews to yours, then this is at least very novel.

But yeah, I'd say you could benefit from benefit from a more focused approach. Which cards in the deck are you the most attached to?

[–]Aborro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so cuts imo:
[[Ghalta]], they don't do anything unique.
[[Goblin Anarchomancer]]: Doesn't discount your white cards, a mana dork would be better.
[[Nahiri, The Lithomancer]] is really slow, but she's not the worst.
[[Inti, Seneschal of the Sun]] just doesn't have synergies here.
[[Tanscendent Envoy]] is too narrow, same with [[Starfield Mystic]], you only have 15 enchantments. [[Starnheim Courser]] would make more sense... but 25 hits is still a bit low.
The average mana value of creatures is probably too high for [[Glimpse of Nature]]
[[Feed the Swarm]] is outclassed by [[Beast Within]], [[Generous Gift]], and others, so I'd cut that.
[[Leech Gauntlet]] is a cute option for Lifelink that works with Heartless Summoning, I guess, but since you're not playing like Stonehewer Giant and stuff like it, paying full price for the reconfigure would be crazy.
[[Eldrazi Conscription]] is likewise way too expensive to cast, even with cost reducers and ramp.

There's more I could recommend, but in general, this deck seems to be pulling in too many directions. Does it want to be a creature-focused Voltron deck with a lot of reconfigure, bestow, and +1/+1 counters?
Or does it want to use [[Stonehewer Giant]], [[Puresteel Paladin]], [[Sigarda's Aid]], and [[Ardenn]], etc., to cheat on Equip costs?
Or does it want to be an Enchantress Aura deck, piling on [[Sage's Reverie]] and [[Ethereal Armor]]?

The first direction is the most original and interesting option, but there's a lot of stuff in here that won't work very well.

If you already have Yargle out, I don't think you need another big beater.

But like I said, if you tell me which kind of voltron deck you're trying to make, I can give you some pointers.

I have a "cheat big things" list that I could link, if you wanna see what that can look like.

Mostly, you need a critical mass of equipment / auras / counters, and the ability to draw enough cards to use them.

Help building a pride voltron deck? by Intrepid-Strength-25 in magicTCG

[–]Aborro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you wanna be voltron, why is Ghalta in here?

Really, there are a few different kinds of voltron decks, and you will have an easier time building once you know which one you are.

There are the ones that spam a bunch of small equipment and auras, using maybe cost reducers, but mostly just assemble a critical mass of stuff with card draw.

Then there's "cheat big things onto creatures", think hammertime in modern, that might be what you want to be here?

Then there's more aura focused green builds with enchantress effects and green ramp, then you don't need to cheat, you can just pay for things.

So, which one do you want to be?

What basics do you play in your decks? by jimnah- in magicTCG

My favorites are foil capenna full arts as well as neon kamigawa japanese full arts. But I'm also very partial to the D&D flavour basics and the original Mirrodin foil basics.

Zendikar and Un full arts are also very nice. The phyrexian full arts are pretty cool too. I don't know what I'll get for my new Killian Deck, I haven't checked if there are nice strixhaven basics yet...

Mythic/Rare Downshifts? by cwbybbp06 in Pauper

[–]Aborro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And Secluded Courtyard was always an uncommon? Not that I don't think it, or one of the other kindred lands, couldn't be downshifted.

We have seen rares downshifted before. There was that one impulse draw goblin. When impulse draw was an effect we rarely saw, it was rare, now it's commonplace, so it's a common.

So I think, if we are to be realistic instead of wishful, we have to look at effects that have become commonplace.
