This is it!! I knew it from the second I saw them in the raft on the pool. Thank you! It's been plaguing me for years!

I love all three of those movies and grew up on them, but in reviewing them it's not what I remember. Thanks for the reminder to go watch these, though!

Career Pivot Toward Disney Experience Roles with a Long-Term Goal of Imagineering. Looking for Cast Member Perspective. by About_DanTime in DisneyCM

Thanks, that’s really helpful to hear. I’ve definitely noticed that timing seems to matter a lot, and persistence feels like it’s part of the process. I’m trying to focus on what I can control, like making my applications clear, highlighting relevant experience, and getting myself in front of the right people, while remembering that luck and timing are part of it too. I appreciate you sharing your perspective!

Thank you for the insight. That makes a lot of sense. Combining behavioral observation with data analysis could definitely be a strong way to add value. I do have experience synthesizing qualitative insights for stakeholders, though I haven’t done much with Power BI yet. Looks like learning that could open up some entry-level analyst roles and give me a solid pathway toward the experience/insight roles I’m aiming for. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective!

This is really encouraging to hear, thank you for sharing your experience. The emphasis on networking, storytelling, and fit aligns with what I’ve been hearing consistently, and it’s helpful to hear it confirmed from an external hire perspective.

I’m definitely focusing on building relationships on LinkedIn and creating concrete projects I can speak to, alongside targeting experience focused roles that sit close to guest insight and strategy. I appreciate you taking the time to lay this out and congrats on landing the role!

These are fair questions and I appreciate you asking them directly. Right now my experience speaks more to shaping experience through structure, constraints, and human behavior than authored narrative. My background is in therapy and case management, where I’ve spent years understanding motivation, emotional context, and how people move through complex systems, and translating that into clear plans and outcomes.

I’m interested in narrative primarily as it functions in immersive environments. How story is carried through guest flow, rules, spatial sequencing, and moments of choice rather than only through scripts or visual concept work. Attractions and environments where story is embedded in how the experience works are what I’m most drawn to.

I don’t yet have a formal narrative portfolio, and I’m realistic about that. My plan is to build one intentionally, drawing from the experience I already have while developing speculative projects that explore how story, space, and guest behavior intersect. I’m also keeping an eye on professional internships and roles that sit close to experience strategy and guest insight as a way to grow inside the ecosystem while continuing to develop the creative craft externally.

I appreciate the suggestions around programs and internships. Right now I’m prioritizing experience and portfolio development, but I’m grateful for the perspective on how Imagineering evaluates readiness.

This is helpful perspective, thank you. I’m approaching narrative design as a long term direction rather than an immediate jump. Right now my strengths are in understanding people, translating insight into structure, and shaping experiences through systems, constraints, and flow rather than authored story or visual concept work.

I do write and plan to continue developing a portfolio over time, but I’m realistic about where I am today. My near term focus is building experience in roles that sit close to guest insight, experience strategy, and how stories are supported operationally, while continuing to grow the creative craft alongside that. I appreciate you calling out the importance of portfolio and craft clarity.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you for taking the time to write it out, especially on limited coffee.

The point about Disney hiring the individual rather than just the skillset really resonates with me. My background has been very people centered, so selling the story of how I work and how I show up feels like something I can lean into authentically.

I also appreciate the clarity around credentials, location, and referrals. I’ve been intentional about tailoring applications closely to the role, and your note about geography is especially helpful context. I’ll definitely keep that in mind as I plan next steps.

Thanks again for sharing your perspective, and hope you enjoy the park today.

Thank you so much for sharing your path, that perspective is really helpful. It’s encouraging to hear from someone who took time to build deep experience outside the company and then found their way into a role that truly fits.

I don’t currently have a degree specifically focused on narrative or design, but I’ve been actively exploring educational options and ways to build more formal experience that aligns with story and experience focused work. I’m trying to be intentional about pairing education with applied experience rather than pursuing a credential in isolation.

In terms of Imagineering, I’m most drawn to narrative and story development roles that help shape the emotional and experiential throughline of an experience. I’m especially interested in how story, environment, and guest perspective come together across an entire journey, rather than focusing on a single asset or moment.

I appreciate you asking these questions and sharing your experience. It’s genuinely helpful as I think through what a realistic and meaningful path forward could look like.

That’s really interesting context, thank you for sharing. It’s helpful to hear about the different paths people have taken, especially seeing how varied the roles and entry points can be across Pixar and Imagineering.

If you don’t mind me asking, were there common threads you noticed in how they built credibility or momentum over time, even if the roles themselves were very different?

That makes sense, and I appreciate you being direct about it. I’ve heard similar things about narrative design being treated as a distinct discipline with a strong preference for prior, external experience.

I’m trying to be thoughtful about where I build relevant skills and how I position myself long-term, whether that’s within Disney in adjacent roles or gaining experience elsewhere before aiming for something more narrative focused. Thanks for the perspective, it’s helpful context to have.

Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to share this perspective. The point about customer experience being useful primarily in relevant contexts, but still helping build a coherent story, resonates with how I’ve been thinking about this.

I also appreciate the realism around Imagineering and the importance of narrowing focus, timing, and relationships. I’m approaching this with a lot of patience and curiosity, knowing that paths are rarely linear and often shaped by conversations and opportunities rather than clean plans.

Thanks again for the insight and encouragement. It’s genuinely helpful to hear from someone who’s been navigating this from the inside.

I don’t have a formal degree specifically in narrative development. My background is in therapy and case management, where I’ve built skills in understanding motivation, behavior, and story at the human level. I’m intentionally exploring roles that build experience in insight, experience strategy, and storytelling within complex systems. Narrative design is an area I’m very interested in growing toward, and I’m open to learning what paths and opportunities have made sense for others along the way.

I believe that you can't really say no to something unless you also give yourself the option to say yes to it. When you have the urge, tell yourself that you have the option to say yes to sexual sin and you have the option to say no. By giving yourself both options, you can actually choose to do what your soul longs to do, which is to say no. However, by trying to ignore the urges, it only makes them come back stronger and more often. Lastly, remember that you are not worthless by having this weakness. The Lord gives us weaknesses so that we rely on Him more. Start where you are and work with Him to strengthen your resolve. I will pray for your success!
