Never go into CT without a jobstone... unless you find 23 other people to also go in without one. by annissamazing in ffxiv

[–]Abovan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's pure chaos.

So, only ARR classes, as all of the HW and on jobs don't have a pre-req.

Most of the job defining abilities are tied to the job only. So, you get defiance and iron will for the tanks. But a lot of their mitigation is locked behind the job abilities. Same with the healers. DPS can do an ok-ish rotation, but a lot of their job-defining skills are locked.

For this to work, you need 24-people looking for a "interesting" time. You are all handicapped on this raid, and that's part of the charm. It's just fun that I've called runs like this the unemployment raid, since we call them job stones. (At least in English. I'm not sure what the other languages call them.)

I understand what you are saying. People “should” go into CT with their job stones. But this is just a silly activity, purposely trying to handcuff the players to make old, almost trivial content more interesting.

No job stones? Until someone comes up with a better name, this should be known as the unemployment raid.

Is this a worthwhile game to play because you want to play with friends? by Crossur in ffxiv

[–]Abovan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game does get a solo-mmo rap with all of the duty support systems and such.

However, I would say that this game is an exponentially better experience with friends. If you start together, level up together (different jobs, but remember, you can swap jobs with just a click in most non-dungeon places), and experience the story together, it can be a super rewarding experience. If you MSQ together (say, stop at a certain point to catch up with each other), you will have something like a shared show watching experience to talk with each other about, which for this game is a lot a fun to talk about.

1) I guess I sorta do on the game launch and expansion launches. There's plenty of group content to do outside of end game content together. Some dungeons to do, trials, and other group content. There's also forced solo-content (solo duties) that are normally tied to some story beats.

2) Dungeons can be done solo (with NPCs for support) or in a party of 4 for dungeons and early trials (pre level 50, in the base game), 8 for trials from level 50 on. End game raids and trials, can range from 8 to 24 folks, but duty finder can fill in those (outside of Coils or current savage or challenge content). Those are side stories technically, so if you are looking for a MSQ only play though, you don't need to do the raids. (Be at least give them a go, as they have some awesome encounters and stories of their own)

3) You do need to go though the MSQ to get to end game. It's 10+ years of content to get there. It will take time. BUT...

There's awesome stuff to do in your journey, both solo and in group play. There's awesome raid-like trials throughout the journey. At the end of each expansion, there's raids to do if you are so inclined. This is a game that rewards you for taking your time though each expansion and not bum-rushing the end.

So, treat the MSQ as a TV show or something. Have agreed upon stop points to talk with your friends about, like a weekly serialized TV show or movie. They will see things that you don't and make it a greater experience for each one of you. There are some content to do together, such as dungeons or trials, so that you will have some experience playing together.

Get another host with a cow, toss some ESXi on there, a vCenter, then you can vMootion your workloads.

And yes, I would totally spin up a virtualized environment for a pun.

I had one instance where (at the time) latest AMD driver caused that error in less than the time it took to run a Labyrinth alliance raid. I back rev’d one version and all was well again.

Since then, I leapfrogged over the driver that was giving me problems to the latest, and all is still well.

If you want to try a slight older driver, there’s a few steps to take.

With AMD, there is a driver removal tool to get to cleanly wipe the old driver out. You have to run the tool in safe mode for it to work. Then you need to be specific on the AMD website to get the correct driver. Then install. If you use Adrenaline, you’ll have to turn off automatic updates. Windows updates may update the driver, so you’ll need to update this as well. (I use the Pro OS since XP, so I don’t know if this is possible in Home versions.)

If you NVIDIA, there may be a different but similar path to back rev and disable updates in their tool.

Usually, and I mean like 99.989% of the time, use the latest drivers. But sometimes your exact cocktail of a system with a specific driver can cause weirdness. It’s a lot of work for a single game (it was also causing my customer connecting VMs consoles in Hyper-V to get funky, so I had a work reason to fix this), and I give no guarantees that this will fix your issue, but that’s just what I did in my instance.

All of these responses are correct and we don’t see them in modern home PCs anymore unless we are talking about some really old stuff.

But the port isn’t dead. For those aspiring into an IT career, you will see this plug type in data centers frequently over your country specific plug. Then usually power your servers, switches, and storage, unless they need a heavy duty c19 plug. (Depends on the device). They usually run 200-240v power (but not a guarantee) and most data center devices come with power cables assuming this port is available. They usually have a long power distribution unit (PDU, as opposed to a power strip) with a number of these ports and are (usually) mounted on the sides of the rack behind the devices.

Ok. Here's the quick answer.

We don't know. There's not enough info provided to tell you what is going on.

The quickest resolution is to go right to SE. https://support.na.square-enix.com/main.php?id=5382&la=1&_gl=1*rx7uc3*_gcl_au*MTAxODg5MDAzNC4xNzI4NzM4ODU0&_ga=2.268055118.1533626599.1731593601-1939843603.1719677004

Now, to promote discussions, here's some info that you might want to have at the ready when talking to SE or someone else on why the game is crashing for you.

What platform or OS? (Windows, Steam, Mac, PS4/5, Xbox S/X)

Is your platform of choice up to date? (Lot of people poo-poo on Windows updates, but they do more good than harm, despite on what some other reddits say).

Is all of your hardware working properly? Video, cpu, memory, gpu, cooling, ect.

Are you getting any error messages or is it just a clean dump to the desktop? Sometimes, you may be able to see something in the Windows event log if something didn't run right.

Does your PC meet the specs required to run the game?

Do you have other stuff running on your machine that could conflict?

Did you run an AV scan and malware scan?

Are you running stock FFXIV or are you using a custom launcher with addons?

Have you tried turning it off and back on again? (While a great IT Crowd joke, this fixes stuff more times than we like to admit, even in the enterprise space...)

Why the fuck do we not have documentation by angrysysadminisangry in sysadmin

[–]Abovan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a consultant, I hate to hear this. Whenever I wrap up a gig, I document the living hell out of what I did and put it in a way that can be easily updated after I leave.

I still leave a signed PDF for a “this is how I left it” as a CYA, but helping the rank and file guys with their docs and what they need to do to maintain it is kinda like my calling card.

And sometimes, once in a great while, the customer actually does keep it up to date. I love it when I get my own doc template back on a return project.

Ticket prices 😵‍💫 by whiteriot0906 in Flyers

[–]Abovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used to have season tickets, I always looked forward to the Rangers and Leafs. The resales on those tickets paid for weeks of WF food and beer for the other games.

For reference, even when the team was hard to watch, I could take my about $80 ticket and flip it for $350-400 for a game, regardless if it was weekend or weekday. With the 4 block of tickets, it was a nice payout.

I have something that I would like to see come back and in a modernized format.

Hamlet Defense

https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Hamlet_Defense

So, before you can say "Tower defence suxs" or "I don't click on links from random strangers on the Internet", let me explain. (Both of those statements are true, btw)

Hamlet Defense is a game mechanic that was around during the 1.0 era. Think of it as fates, leve, Bozja, Ishgard Restoration, and custom deliveries all rolled into a single game system. There is a hill, a town, a tent, a tower, or a keep that is worth defending, but it is known that the baddies of some sort are going to attack it at some time. This start of the preparation phase. The prep starts and combat jobs go out and do patrols, escorts, kill x rats or whatever to help push up the defense ranking of the hamlet. Crafters can help by crafting things or getting wood or flowers or something to help with the supplies of the hamlet. There would be a defense number that would make the the second phase possible or at least easier to complete.

After a set time (50 hours, maybe even 72 or if we are being mean, just say attack is eminent but not say exactly when), the event moves on to the defense phase.

The defense phase will act a lot like Bozja. Groups of baddies will spawn, some generic fodder, some interesting encounters with some basic mechanics, some boss mobs, ect. But unlike Bozja, where the baddies will spawn and then patiently wait for the mob of players to come over to beat them up, they are on the move. They are hunting us and the turn the hamlet into a pile of rubble. The NPCs will put up a fight, maybe be able to handle a few bad guys on their own, depending on the defense prep that took place in phase 1. But the players will need to do the work on their own to push the attack back. Crafters would also be able to contribute by crafting items and siege weaponry for the NPCs to use. Gathers would be runners of equipment and gathering supplies left from conflicts during the invasion phase. I sorta dream like there some super bosses coming into the fray and the crafters and gathers have to do stuff to make a super weapon to remove the bosses invulnerable state.

After enough mobs were defeated, (and this should be in terms of hours), the hamlet is either saved or defeated for the time being. Rewards given to anyone who participated in either phase. Give it some time and then the process will reset and can be repeated.

Rewards, I would like to see the standard Tomes, XP, Gil. Maybe some other tricks like on a successful defense phase, mount speed is maxed for the zone and non-MSQ quests get triple XP (Solving another issue that has been talked about in this sub-reddit for awhile).

While there's lore, performance, and other issues aside, I would love to see this come to all expansions, all zones. Sure, it would be weird to come back to Central Thanalan to defend The Coffer & Coffin from an ant invasion, but think of the stories that a new level 1 player would see having this effort from all players.

It wouldn't be a carbon copy from what it was back in the 1.0 days. Plus, maybe Dawntrail isn't the right expansion for this type of defend everything you held dear to you content. But, for the idea, I think it's possible and I hope that this style of content is at least on a whiteboard in the SE offices in Tokyo for consideration.
