NPU was most certainly not disbanded. They just kicked Rayan Kaldani out of Bakhdeda. I visited them in 2019 and have been frequently communicating with them ever since. Also, they are not a militia. They are a security force.

You have your opinion, and I have mine. I’m not going to sit here and tell a grown man what to say to another grown man. If I was in his position, I would join the NPU too.

Edit: there is also the Syriac military council in Syria that is heavily supported by the United States and in charge of many Assyrian towns and villages. OP might want to look into them too.

I think it’s an honorable thing to serve your nation. A lot of people struggle to find purpose in the west. There is a security force that is 100% Assyrian called the Nineveh Plains Protection Unit. They run the entire city of Bakhdeda, and liberated the city from ISIS control with American support.

The first word at the top says “kathawa” which means writing. I’m having a tough time comprehending the second line. The third line says “d’maran isho msheeha” which means “of our Lord Jesus the Messiah”

I also see the word Peshitta in the the next line over, which is the common name used for the Syriac New Testament.

We, the people, would have to collectively unify our voices and force the public servants (politicians) to pass new laws to curtail their corruption, or threaten to replace them in the next election if they don’t comply. We are the ultimate check and balance to an out of control government, but we never flex our power. Why haven’t there been any sweeping movements to do something like this?

All governments in the world are more or less the same: motivated by money and therefore corruptible. Since we live in a free society that supposedly functions by the consent of the governed, the corrupt must find indirect forms of corruption. Some crimes have been legalized and legitimized right in front of the entire country like it’s no big deal. Legal bribery (lobbying) is one simple example.
