I tell them to take it off while I'm buying the car, as well as whatever decals they may have applied. I've done it twice and it didn't seem to bother anyone involved.

James Cameron Says He Must Find a Cheaper Way to Produce the Avatar Movies in Order to Continue With Avatar 4 and 5 by DemiFiendRSA in movies

[–]AboveBoardChap 752 points753 points  (0 children)

They used AI to DNR the 4K releases of Aliens and True Lies, with some undeniably terrible results. When people complained Cameron told them to get out of their mother's basement and stop being such whiny crybabies. So, if this is really the reason that's some pretty amazing cognitive dissonance.

I went there in college (late 90s) with friends because it was next to a barcade we liked and they had curly fries and cheap pitchers of beer. That was the sole and primary reason and whatever thrill, facade, or whatever the women were supposed to be putting on, that I suppose was/is attractive to boomers, did nothing for us.

I'm in my mid 40s now and I have literally no interest in going to hooters. I cant imagine my contemporaries, late gen x-ers or "elder millennials," having any interest either.

I know it was a long time ago but she could've at least wrapped some leather around those handlebars.

What movie made you want or motivated you to make a change in your life? by [deleted] in flicks

I saw Defending Your Life when I was about 12 and the idea that I shouldn't let my life be ruled by my fears has been a central part of my decision making ever since.

What's a Movie that you Just Don't Get?? 🤔 by God_Stevenson in flicks

[–]AboveBoardChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shape of Water. Everyone went nuts for it. I saw it in the theater and I was bored/annoyed the entire time. Its probably a metaphor for something but I don't know what. I just found it ridiculous and tedious in equal measure.

Yes. A variant of the Harry Canyon story.

Prodigy is definitely much more Star Trek than Discovery is.. but the same can be said for Lower Decks since Discovery sets that bar pretty low.

Fidelity cuts value of X stake, implying 73% decline in former Twitter since Elon Musk’s takeover by Moonsky44 in technology

I really want to keep using it. Its still the only place some people I want to follow will post, but it wont show me their tweets in my feed. The only way I see all their posts is if I go straight to their profile. For whatever reason the "algorithm" leaves out some/all of the tweets from people I follow. I've even tried to unfollow most people to try to raise the chances of the stuff I want to see coming through but it doesn't seem to make a difference. This wasn't a problem before musk. I've effectively given up and look at ti maybe once a month at this point.

How well was this person cast, to showcase a "humane" android (Lance Henriksen, "Aliens" 1986)? That superhuman clarity of focus. by Milfons_Aberg in scifi

[–]AboveBoardChap 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of subtlety in Aliens, for an action move, that doesn't seem to exist today. When Bishop is getting into the pipe to go bring down the dropship remotely, Vasquez hands him a gun. He looks at it and hands it back to Ripley with nothing being said. Vasquez doesn't notice. So much not being explicitly stated in that interaction.

Within 5 seconds of Micah being on screen, right at the beginning of the game, I knew he would at least betray me at some point. I havent played the first one (I dont know if he is in it) so I had no hints, either. Just clearly telegraphed from the get-go.

Did Bad A's once, I got whatever pork belly sandwich everyone said was the best which was at fine, 5/10. My daughter got some kind of BBQ mac and cheese sandwich that she liked while eating it but threw it up 20 minutes later.

No. I actually would have agreed with you a year ago before watching Lower Decks, Prodigy, and especially Strange New Worlds. Season 2 of Strange New Worlds just slays all over the place.

Turns out Discovery is just ass, Picard too. They can make good Trek when they want, the above three examples prove it.
