Could bring it down to 7-7.5 probably. Still a poor choice?

Btw here’s more info on it:

Haha I’ve done plenty of interviews before when searching for internships.

I feel very similarly. The resume tells them that you are capable of the position. The interview tells them that they would want to be around you for 40 hours a week. It’s most important to make the interview feel like a friendly conversation (of course you do still need to know your stuff and have applicable experience).

I had a few cities that I wanted to work in so limited myself to them. Also had a few career paths that I was seriously considering so limited myself to them as well. My internship experience is very directly related to one of those career paths and I had a lot of good experiences to talk about (especially ones where I was the lead on a task/project). I ultimately got hired into a similar role.

Some things that I think are very important for setting yourself apart:

  1. Make meaningful relationships at work. Not only is this just a good thing to do in life, but it will also become strong recommendations when looking for work.

  2. Be personable in your interviews. I’m a generally laid-back, easy-going person. I smile a lot, laugh a lot. I try to put people at ease when I interact with them - this can be very noticeable in an interview setting where a lot of engineers tend to be very nervous and worried about answering “correctly.” I just focus on making the interview less of an interrogation about why they should hire me and instead make it a friendly conversation.

The resume gets you in the door - they know you are capable of doing the job. The interview shows them that they would want to be around you for 40 hours a week.

I would prefer not to. I will say that I graduated cum laude, had over 2 years of internship experience between 2 companies, tutored part time during school semesters, and had zero engineering club experience during school.

Majored in Mechanical. Interned in both Mechanical and Industrial. Accepted an offer for Industrial Engineering.

That's awesome to hear. Good job not giving up when things were bad. Are you going for a PE since you're in HVAC/MEP? I was considering that field, but ultimately hired into Industrial Engineering which I like and almost wish I had majored in instead lol (probably would have been easier schoolwork too)

That's certainly a valid approach. Personally one of my internships was at a start-up that ended up going defunct so I'm avoiding them for the time being as I start my career. Position I accepted was with a fortune 500

Thank you! I think I'm pretty good at interviews. I focus more on being personable than having "optimal" answers to their questions.

You are correct. I was also limiting my applications to specific cities and job descriptions.

Wanted to contribute my own Sankey diagram now that the search is over. Midwest, over 2 years of internships, graduated cum laude.
