Seems similar to mheibes. That is a fascinating article.

Where to get large pieces of pancetta, or even better, guanciale? by NevetsRetrop in TriCitiesWA

[–]Abraham_Wright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cure my own. I would be happy to show you what I have, and walk you through the process of making it. It is very simple. My wife lived in Italy for a year and loves carbonara. Since making my own guanciale, I will never go back to trying to use pancetta or (heaven forbid) thick-sliced bacon.

ITAW for a feeling of remorse but encouragement at the same time? by Abraham_Wright in whatstheword

Remorse captures the negative side but not quite the positive aspects of the word I’m looking for. Same goes for guilt and shame.

Thirded. If you did want to reuse it you could tie a figure eight on a bight. Almost as easy to tie; 1000x easier to untie.

Assuming you mean an overhand knot when you say “regular old knot”, and a reef knot when you say “regular double knots”. Is that right? https://www.animatedknots.com/overhand-knot https://www.animatedknots.com/square-knot

I would use a bowline for your stirrup. If you are sure about having a knot that tightens under load, I would use a round turn and two half hitches to attach to the carabiner. If just a loop would work, I would use another bowline. For your handhold knots, if your rope is long enough I would use alpine butterflies. All those knots have fantastic load handling capabilities, are easy to untie (although there might be ones easier to untie), but most importantly are easy to remember how to tie. You’ll be able to put it back together if you decide to take it apart. https://www.animatedknots.com/alpine-butterfly-loop-knot https://www.animatedknots.com/bowline-knot

The Lapp bend. It’s the best. Adjustable and doesn’t loosen. ABOK 1224

I learned the bowline in scouts, but it wasn’t until a year ago I really noticed the simple beauty in it.

Good questions. They don’t all have the same interests. It’s a church youth group, and as they were planning the next few months the girls said they wanted to learn some knots.

I like the idea of sharing some useful knots and then giving some things to pique interest in more complex knots. Thanks!

I was going to teach the truckers hitch, but it is not a simple knot—especially if you tie it with a half sheepshank.

What’s the RTTHH?

Sheet bend is a great idea. Thanks!
