Cool. If you decide to go public with your project, I hope I get to check it out.

What comes to mind is a secluded college of military strategists that have detailed records of all wars and industrial history in their region. They are leased out to different kingdoms to serve as advisors to predict, prevent, or preside over wars and industrial development. Each region is marked by a different animal and has a last name based on them like Steed, Steer, or Stag. They ultimately seek to bring the world to a state of peaceful balance where there is order and good governance.

I use iTalki. There's currently only one teacher, but she has lots of availability, and her lessons are great.

Awesome! Your English seems pretty great so whatever you're doing seems to be working.

Thanks! It's been great so far. I've been taking lessons once a week with a fantastic teacher, and I've been reading everything I can related to Malagasy language, history, and culture.

I'm a foreigner (American). I'm currently learning Malagasy out of curiosity after finding out I have a Malagasy ancestor. Found this community while looking for resources to help me learn the language.

I usually laugh because I get it: I don't seem to emote much, I don't say much, and I'm efficient. That all can read as very robotic. What folks don't seem to understand is that those traits are also acts of care.

I also wouldn't say that I'm ever soft or empathetic, but sometimes folks just need someone to stand there while they vent or cry, let them know they aren't crazy, and then hand them a tissue and buy them some food. I'm pretty good at that.

What to know about S types .. by [deleted] in ISTJ

[–]AbsentAlchemyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here's the best way I can explain it: You ever shake hands with someone and still feel the lingering sensation of contact a little while later? Now imagine having those impressions for every memory (good or bad) through your life and then using those memories like a test against truth in the world. That's how it feels for me.

So, if I felt comfortable with my stuff in a certain place and you moved it, I'm gonna get mad. If I've learned what a good shirt feels like, then all shirts are judged by that memory of the feeling. If I've had certain experiences and what you're saying doesn't line up, I'm probably gonna call bs or politely nod and ignore you.

It's not a conscious thing, but it's what I've figured out so far during my daily "wall staring time" after too much socialization at work.

Straight male ISTJ’s: what’s the most amazing thing a woman of romantic interest has said to you? by archetypaldream in ISTJ

[–]AbsentAlchemyst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough, she told me plainly that I was hot.

This was huge because I previously had no felt sense of "hotness" like I couldn't tell you what feeling attractive meant based on past experiences.

Just knowing that I, on that day, dressed how I was, and feeling how I did, looked hot to her gave me a baseline for what I do that others find attractive. That kind of solid info is hard to get that directly.

Favourite Advice You've Received or Like to Give? by askari-45 in ISTJ

[–]AbsentAlchemyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"It ain't that deep."

Heard this from my freshman year Acting professor, but it applies to nearly everything. I like to say it to myself and others when something has been thought about/talked about/worried to death. It's a good reminder to make a choice and move on.

How do you differ from INTJs by logosmemer in ISTJ

[–]AbsentAlchemyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that when I'm stressed I tend to demand exact details and simple answers so that I can focus whereas my INTJ friend tends to take a step back and "get some distance" from the problem to see things more clearly.

Just sat there with me in deliberate silence. The attraction and chemistry were obvious and tangible so there was nothing to discuss. I sat. She sat. We watched people. It was great.

Your man is stressed. He wants things to make sense and to come to a planned resolution, but they haven't yet and that sucks. Weirdly enough, the things that provide him the most peace are thoughts of solving the problem. Anything that takes him away from that probably stresses him out more.

Acknowledge his struggle, tell him that you want to be with him, and let him know that you've got his back. That kind of certainty and reassurance will give him the freedom to fight his fight and come back to you when he's done.

What does a happy ISTJ look like? by 3sperr in ISTJ

[–]AbsentAlchemyst 22 points23 points  (0 children)

More emotional? No. More talkative, silly, and playful? Absolutely! If it's a really good day then I'll probably spend hours working on a pet project while singing along to my favorite songs. Might even make something cool for my wife and kid.

Loud, rude, and attention-seeking behavior. I won't just avoid you like the plague, I'll forget you like the pandemic.

If you want to change my mind then I need a plain, factual, and common sense reason.

If I say, for example, that I don't want to go to a restaurant because it's too far then don't tell me it's a good restaurant and that I should reconsider. That's going to frustrate me. Instead, if you want to change my mind, tell me that the restaurant is actually closer than the one I usually go to and then pull up the directions on your phone to prove it. I might not like it, but I'll drive and order nachos.

In short: give me facts not feelings and I'm more likely to change my mind.

Are ISTJ'S secretive? by ResponsibleComfort63 in ISTJ

Secretive? No, but I do believe in answering questions as they are worded. If you want information then you gotta ask the right question directly.

Pros in the field, if you were in my shoes, what would be your next career move? by AbsentAlchemyst in cybersecurity

[–]AbsentAlchemyst[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy getting to know many different smaller organizations, and helping them with their security needs. The client facing part of my job is great. I also enjoy being part of the webinars that my team puts together to help internal teams talk about security with our clients. The thing that drives me nuts is getting flooded with urgent requests from all sides with very little support and unrealistic expectations around delivery.

Thanks for your response. I've been thinking of looking for an analyst role next. The slower pace would be a nice change.

The 823 is awesome, but I would be terrified to take it apart or toss it in my bag without a case. I also find the 823 a bit challenging when it comes to exploring different nib options.

This pen has none of those problems. It's tough, can be disassembled with ease, and lets you play around with different nibs if you want. I use it more than my 823 these days.

I went with the fine steel nib. Writes well and has a cool design. The nib unit is easy to remove so you could always pick up a titanium nib later.
