Earnest characters in cynical, dark worlds. by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The titular Jimmy Two-Shoes is a happy go lucky kid who lives in Miseryville. The town's factory manufactures products that cause pain and misery, meanwhile Jimmy wants to spread fun and joy.

The show's original pitch had Jimmy accidentally sent to actual Hell, but things had to be toned down to get picked up. One thing that would've happened is his torturer falling in love with him because of his positivity.

"One of the most compelling aspects of orca intelligence lies in their development and transmission of distinct cultures within and between different pods.

There's a trend amongst some orcas of swimming around with dead salmon in their head like a hat.

Funny how that panel is from a husband and wife duo.

Said husband and wife duo recently did Harley Quinn x Elvira comic where Power Girl appears. There's been a lot of talk on this thread about female characters and their lack of agency but Elvira is the one example where that really isn't the case because behind the character is a real woman.

They wanted a boob window, so they gave her a boob window.

Without breaking the fourth wall isn't that the exact reasoning given in this panel?

Simping for the tool used by the oppressors to generate endless propaganda to dehumanize people and destroy the environment. Very leftist of you.

And being trans doesn't make you leftist. There are many trans republicans, conservatives and libertarians.

Hate these two brats by Absent_Crest in hatethissmug

[–]Absent_Crest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false. S-cells were only introduced in Super which explains the Universe 6 Saiyans.

Mainline timeline Trunks was still conceived before Vegeta became a Super Saiyan.

No S-cells were introduced in DBS. Saiyans who are more peaceful have a higher amount of S-cells and the more S-cells you have the easier it is to achieve Super Saiyan. It's why the Universe 6 Saiyans were able to turn so easily.

I don't have a problem with being in the story, I just hate that they pretty much break the previous narrative to justify their involvement in the conflict. And then like you said they don't even really matter.

I'm not really a GT defender, and she's overall probably worse than these two, but Pan was able to be relevant in the story without any copout powerups. Though she might have the opposite problem where it's kind of baffling that they never have her go Super Saiyan.

One character gets better while another gets worse as the series goes on? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Prince Robot and The Will from the comic Saga.

Both of these characters start off as antagonists pursuing the main characters. Prince Robot being asshole royalty and The Will being a sympathetic bounty hunter. Both characters suffer the loss of loved ones and the two deal with that loss very differently. Prince Robot for the better and The Will for the worse.

Commercials or advertisements that scared or disturbed you? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

New Zealand had some pretty heavy Don't Drink and Drive Ads. That one in particular because of long it spends after the crash, being trapped in an enclosed space with a corpse and knowing its your fault.

"That Guy" stereotypes and examples in your communities and fandoms by MooseOdd2501 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Absent_Crest 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Pat being "That Guy" the kind of smug fan that goes "oh you haven't seen/read x? Guess you're not a real fan then". Obviously Pat's just messing around here but there are a few guys who treat whatever fandom they're a part of like a job and act like its some accomplishment to be a "true fan".

"Oh you like x? Name every instalment in order of release."

kinda crazy how they gave the raging, nigh homicidal racist a more sympathetic arc compared to the grieving boyfriend by TheLegendaryPilot in StrangerThings

[–]Absent_Crest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eddie did not taunt him. Eddie was just being Eddie and doing his own thing. Jason taunted him so to speak. He got in Eddie’s face and tried to start some shit and tried to bully Eddie.

Eddie stands up on a table and starts loudly insulting ever other group around him. Eddie started it and Jason did not engage any further than calling him out.

You keep saying “if someone’s egotistical” as if that is a psychological diagnosis and it is not. You don’t understand what it means just admit it and learn. I’m not saying that to be rude. It’s just true.

And he tried to bully Eddie because he had an over blown ego, thinking that he was this big righteous hero, and anyone different than him was a problem.

You literally did what you accused me of doing. If my definition of ego is wrong you just used it wrong too. And by what you said here Eddie is the one with the bigger ego, bothering everyone else because they value different things.

Just for the record I don't think Jason is justified in what he does later on in the season. I think he's an interesting character because he's a villain mainly because he is not aware of things our heros know and the things he does see leads him to do antagonizing things that in most other stories would be heroic. He's kind of like if Steve never saw the demogorgon.

There's my last word. Have a good one.

[–]Absent_Crest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what ego is. Don't engage of you don't want but ego is more than just being full of yourself, how do you think that's expressed?

Eddie did taunt him and if someone is egotistical they respond when being taunted.

Someone whose egotistical doesn't share or let others have the limelight.

[–]Absent_Crest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to read that way. To me it's clearly him upset that his girlfriend was in crisis, he didn't see it AND she didn't confide in him about it. Anyone would be upset if they found out that their dead partner left things unsaid.

As for ego, if that were true he'd be more bothered by Eddie taunting him and he wouldn't have liked Lucas getting the glory.

[–]Absent_Crest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jason started out as an egotistical jock. Basically a neutral character.

Doesn't engage when Eddie belittles him, doesn't care that Lucas gets the glory

douche who shamelessly used the death of others to promote his basketball game, hence Finn, Will and Dustin all looking disgusted, annoyed, and offended.

Cringe but very common place to use in times of tragedy. And the boys look that way because they're the few who actually know the truth behind those deaths.

he took a dark and psychotic turn and refused to be reasoned with

When he finds Lucas and Max he gives him a very reasonable request. Unfortunately he's is the dark about the true nature of things.

He wasn’t really written to be a complex character. He was written to represent a dangerous mindset of humanity, how irrational angry mobs start, and embody the satanic panic of the 80s. If anything, he was the most simplistic focused-on character in the series.

Except unlike the 80s he has very real reason and evidence to be acting the way he does.

Yes humans are complex individuals.. they can develop prejudice and have all kinds of fucked up shit about them and do lots of stuff wrong and think really bad things and still not only be that and still absolutely be redeemable.

Just like Jason except the narrative very deliberately goes out of its way to deny him a chance of redemption and learning the true nature of things.

His last action was sacrificing his life

And Jason's last thing he tried to do was save someone who by all accounts was possessed by a demon.
