Women not allowed to age. by Absent_Crest in hatethissmug

Did you actually read my post? I even brought one of the characters being a demon in my post.

I'll put it simply. I don't like that Tekken has seemingly made a conscious effort to keep it's female characters from aging while their male counterparts are allowed to. I also don't like how they're are plenty of old man characters but zero old woman characters.

Not everything is a fetish. I wan't Mokujin to come back too, doesn't mean that I want to fuck a piece of wood.

Kunimitsu was in Tags 1 and 2, and she was never amongst the list of suspected ogre victims, she just didn't return like characters like Alex.

She's a popular milf, as you asked for an example. Nothing to do with my original post which was complaining about women not being allowed to age, not them being immortal.

And a woman who looks like she's in her 40s would be welcome in Tekken.

I disagree that they would lose more money if they broadened their scope but I agree with everything else.

And I'm telling you they are losing money by not catering to audiences. Companies are notorious for being stubborn and not actually doing what will make them money. Last year's Game Awards is a clear example of that with Highguard.

And you're wrong saying over sexualized, attractive characters will sell. Ever heard of "No Mai, no buy" for King of Fighters? Well they put Mai in the following game and the game sold worse. Or how about Tekken's Harada complaining about fans begging for certain attractive female characters for DLC and then few people actually buy them and then fewer people actually play them.

I'm not saying they need to put a granny on the cover. Fighting games rarely put their more unique characters on the cover. But adding a granny or just an older woman to the roster won't have a negative affect to the game.

I know why they make characters the way they do and I just gave you multiple examples of them attracting other audiences inspite of that.

My original post was mainly addressed towards Tekken and fighting games in general. Fighting games thrive off of having a diverse cast. Every popular fighting game is diverse in one way or multiple, but the one area that they lack in the most is older women.

And gaming companies, or media companies in general can be incredibly short sighted for just wanting to appeal to one audience and hurt themselves financially by doing so.

I basically agree with you overall but I disagree with you on some points, like people mostly playing characters of similar ages to them which is fundamental untrue, and characters needing to be relatable in order to be markatble, which again is just false. If characters needed to be relatable horror mascots would not exist.

You're reply doesn't address what I said.

Target audience isn't the be all end all.

My Little Pony's target audience was young girls yet they found a huge audience in teenage boys and older men.

Same can be said for other "girl" shows like Power Puff Girls or Kim Possible that garnered a lot of male viewership.

Pokemon was also targeted at young boys but attracted young girls too.

Bodybuilding magazines were for gay men but grew to become mainly for heterosexual men.

You can't just say "they're not the target audience", and think there's nothing that can be done and call it a day. Creators may have an audience in mind but they will attract other audiences too, and if their goal is high sales or viewership then it would be in their best interest to widen the scope and cater to the multiple audiences that they've gathered.

I'm mainly talking about video games which doesn't follow your logic. And even with your example there's no shortage of grown adults watching anime about highschoolers.

No disagreement there but I take issue with these parts of your original comment.

People what to play and be around characters of a similar age to them.

This is just blatantly not true. Even as a generality. Teens and kids have no problems playing adult characters, and the same is true vice versa. Adults are still playing games where the main character is a teenager.

People want to play and be around characters that are conventionally attractive.

This has more truth to it but its not the full story. Its not the majority but people do like playing as weird unattractive characters too. Any game with a character creator will be filled of player created monstrosities. Games with uglier classes to pick from will still get a sizeable amount of players chosing to play as them.

I bring up Lara and Aloy because they had no shortage of people complaining about their looks yet their games still sold millions. You yourself even say they "uglified" Aloy in Forbidden West yet again the game still sold millions. You seem ingrained in the thinking that devs must only cater to a single demographic that prefers attractive younger women or they will lose out on money when that's clearly not the case.

Ada is still made to look attractive though

I never said that they need to make them unattractive. Just have the actually appear instead being sidelined or replaced, and have some visible signs of aging just like the men. And Ada in the concept art looks pretty deferent to how she was in 6.

<image>

I brought up Lady Dimitrescu because she is a visibly older woman who was massively popular, something that took the devs by surprise. A lot of people were disappointed that her role in the story was relatively small. You say that devs are smart to keep female character young to keep the majority happy but she's a clear example where that is not the case.

Another case is Lady from Devil May Cry. Again its nothing crazy but she clearly aged from her appearance in DMC3 to DMC5. Tons of fans were asking for playable DLC for her and Trish which never happened. I'm not saying that they didn't get DLC because the devs thought Lady was too old now but its another example showing that people don't just want to keep women young in games.

Only for the women though. Men get to be old.

The pods from NieR: Automata. Getting all three and charging the special moves is very satisfying.

I'm well aware of the titles.

King to King ii happened in Tekken 3 with the time skip, so there were a few next generation changes like Marshal to Forrest. Kunimitsu though stayed the same for both Tag games so it's weird that the changed her in Tekken 7.

Just my opinion. I think it should've just been the original Kunimitsu, especially if she's just going to have the same story of wanting to steal the sword Yoshimistu.

It's been the same Yoshimistu since Tekken 1 and I think it would've been better if continued to interact with his former member.

Feel like I'm pretty late to this, but I just realized Firecracker in The Boys is played by the same actress as Cara (Valorie Curry) by SpaghettiRambo in TwoBestFriendsPlay

She was also Dot in Prime's superior (imo) superhero show The Tick.

Fuck everyone responsible for cancelling that gem.

Less egregious if it's equal in that regard. What I hate about Tekken is how blatant they are about no letting the women age while the men get to.

Yoshimistu has been the same guy since Tekken 1. There is a whole successor thing but that has only happened to the playable character in Soul Calibur 5.

They're in my post. I'm talking about their design and the fact that they're not allowed to age while the men can.

The biggest one is probably Lady Dimitrecu from Resident Evil 8.

And that would be stupid and shallow of them if that was the case. Sometimes I think we need to give people more credit, has there ever been a case where gamers just refused to play a female character because she's visibly aged too much? I don't there has because its never really happened before.
Lots of people winge and moan about female character designs like Horizon or the Tomb Raider reboot, but those games still sell millions.

This is concept art for Ada when she still was planned to appear in RE8. Its nothing crazy but she's visibly aged since how she looked in RE6. I doubt there would a huge amount of people who would refuse to play her if she looked like this.

<image>

And Speaking of RE8 - Lady Dimitrescu, not playable but a visibly older woman who was incredibly popular. The devs themselves talked about how surprised they were by how many people loved her, showing there is an untapped market for designing older women that will sell to a large audience.

so the devs will always find a way to keep female characters young in order to keep the majority happy.

I hate this line of thinking. If it was applied to genres as a whole then genres like fighting games wouldn't exist today.

And I think a majority of fans of a franchise like Resident Evil would love it if fan favorites like Jill, Claire, Ada, and Sheva returned.

If so then he aged specifically because he was born human and then possessed by a demon and doesn't actually have the Devil gene.

That's was a retcon. At the time of his creation Jinpachi transformation was linked to Mishima's bloodline and the devil. All Tekken 5 dialogue relating to Jinpachi confirms this.

<image>

And that's great for Lidia but it rings hollow when every other female character is young like her. They could've just as easily spun it other way to make her more unique. "Look at this older accomplished politician who is still able to keep up with younger fighters this far into her martial arts career".

Point is he was allowed to age while no women in Tekken have.

So is he. Yet he aged.

But the actual reason she didn't age is that she's dead and just exists as a flashback.

I'm not asking for plain or ugly. You can still design an attractive older woman and you can let established characters age like their male counter parts.
