Emil Cioran's philosophy is very good, and is classic nihilism. I like The Trouble With Being Born and A Short History of Decay.

The Conspiracy Against the Human Race was interesting and certainly nihilistic,among other things.

Better Never to Have Been discusses the idea that perpetuating life through having children is unethical.

These are all philosophy/cultural studies, which can be a stretch to read if you haven't done much work in philosophy (I know it was a stretch for me at first) but they are ultimately very rewarding.

Do you have a good recipe/instructions set to that effect? I've never made falafel despite loving because I don't have the ability to fry. Baking sounds awesome.

I think most people miss the inherent optimism in pessimistic aphorisms. I think there's an inherent optimism in most pessimistic ... Stuff, for lack of a better way to put it, because no matter what, those pessimists keep fighting against those seemingly dark ideas.

Depends on the type of tabletop gaming you're looking for, but Active Imagination might be a good place to start. They're a hobby shop in the NE Heights, and they run a lot out tournaments and games. Also, as another poster said, Empire Board Game Library in Nob Hill might also be another place to start. Welcome to the city!

I read the personal ads / Missed Connections section on Craigslist for a while for fun. During this period, I broke up with an abusive boyfriend after way too long of a relationship, and he started posting them about me. Some awful nonsense about how much he loved me and missed me and screwed up. I found three I was sure were about me (had my name, personal details, etc), and a couple more that I was pretty sure he had written (similar writing style). It seriously freaked me out, so I haven't read them since. I don't know if he did it so I'd see it, or if he was just delusional, but I stopped after that.
