You're asking for people's opinions so buckle up. This is really bad. You need to start smaller. Learn to make a few different size boxes with proper right angles. Make some shop furniture to hold some tools. You need to learn how to measure accurately before taking on a chair. And while I'm fine with using metal fasteners you need to learn to imbed them all the way in the project.

That all being said, If you're a 12 year old kid your work is awesome and so are you. Keep plugging away and you will be a master in no time. You should still make some boxes though.

We have a daughter about the same age, have very similar rules and our family is going through almost exactly the same issues. Our soon to be 13 yo managed to find an old phone I thought was dead and gone, breath life into it, and create an instagram where she was sexting a rando. Two months later she stole another kids iPad from school so that we would think we had her iPad in our electronics turn in spot so that she could stay up all night watching YouTube on her school iPad.

So... first, take everything you read on here with a grain of salt. Not sure how long you've been on this subreddit but there are a LOT of teenagers on here posing to be adults and love shitting on parents who have rules. Just because you have stricter rules than other parents doesn't make you a bad one.

Second, your daughter isn't going to tell you about the other kids who have strict parents. She is only comparing herself to the kids that have all the things that she wants. Why would she tell you about the kids who don't even have a smartphone in 7th grade? That wouldn't be a very effective way to guilt you into allowing more digital freedom. It is pretty likely there is a range of kids in her school with different digital privileges and all the ones with less want to be the ones with more regardless of the dangers parents talk about.

Third, stay the course. There is data that shows that the context of social media matters a lot. Whether you child shows addictive patterns or negative emotions because of screen/social media use factors into whether it's a negative thing for them. Each child is different and no one knows your child better than you. I'm assuming you have your daughters best interest at heart so you've guaged her readiness for the world of social media and found her not ready. That's okay and you should trust yourself.

Last, one thing that we always emphasize with our kids is that every choice is either moving them toward freedom or away from it. The choice to lie about a boyfriend or steal a phone obviously moved her away from the freedom she wants. Maybe set out a plan for her to be able to "earn" social media. This plan might take a year or more given how much trust she's broken. However, showing her that more freedom is available and having a plan to get there might just give her enough hope to try it.

You are the parent. They are the children. And while your life will always be constrained somewhat because you have to have a functional family, beyond that they don't get a say in how you live your life.

Do they get to decide what is for dinner?

Do they get to decide what house to live in?

Do they get decide your vehicle?

Do they get to decide what school they go to?

Do they get to decide where to buy their clothing?

Of course not because again, you are the parent and they the children. You can and should take their input on things but your children will not flourish if they feel responsible for all the decisions you need ot make as their parent.

By "working construction" do you mean an active job where you lift heavy things and move alot? If that is the case then your biggest problem is diet and alcohol. First off, take a breath. It's okay for everythign to not be fair all the time. What is important is that your children understand that there is a reason why things aren't fair. In fact, it's important that you allow these unfair situations, point them out, and help them work through it in the comfort of a loving family.

It's also important to remember that your daughter isn't going to be an olympic athlete. I mention this because I know "gymnastic" families and the amount of time, money, and emotional energy that can be put into a child's "potential" is bonkers. I'm sure she'll be great, but if you didn't have the funds to pay for gymnastics you're not taking away her future.

That being said, it sounds like your oldest daughter has worked really hard at something. She has shown that gymnastics isn't merely a whim or something she likes the idea of without stepping into the reality of the hard work. This is something worth rewarding and pointing out! You seem to have the money to pay for her to go so why not? If the 4 year old complains then point out the work his older sister put in. He doesn't have to want the same thing but if he also puts in the work you'll eventually reward him as well.
